Buffalo Lodge

We stayed with Evelyne at the lodge for 2 nights and had a most wonderful time. The lodge is situated just outside of the town Cormandel, in the middle of the forrest. So the only sounds you hear are the wind through the trees and the birds. Fantastic!!
The first night we stayed in a standard double room, and the second night we moved to the cottage room, which was larger and had a beautiful bathroom (this room was occupied the first night). Both rooms had their own deck with smashing views.
In short, the lodge, its location and Evelyne's company were the best. When we go back to the Coromandel, we will definitely return to Buffalo Lodge.

We stayed in the cottage room at Buffalo Lodge for 4 nights and were very sorry to leave. Evelyn (the owner of the lodge) makes everyone feel like they are very special guests in her home. We felt at home as soon as we arrived and were thrilled we had chosen to spend more than a day or 2.

The location is great (we were very happy to be on the Western side of the penninsular) and has lovely views over the hills to the water. We also loved being close to the town of Coromandel.

The accomodation is very clean, comfortable and has lots of great art work to look at.

This is a place where you can rest and enjoy the tranquility of the lodge or get out and explore.

The drive from Thames is also a highlight. The road hugs the edge of the bay and offers beautiful views. The light on the water gives the area a very special feel.

We plan to return!

Back again for fabulous food, pampering and stunning views.
I think this is the BEST place for a rejuvenating holiday and only a 3 hour flight from Sydney.

Lots to do locally and a bit further afield and a lovely room to come back to after a busy day.

Evelyne's food really is sensational, love her Chinese ravioli and Duck wrapped in betel leaves. Her ice cream is sensational.

This time I watched Evelyne roasting coffee, very interesting and the process filled the house with a gorgeous aroma.

I'm definitely coming back again

My wife and I came to spend a night at Buffalo Lodge about six months ago and enjoyed our stay so much that we have just come back again. Evelyne is a wonderful host who really enjoys pampering and spoiling her guests.

From the time we first arrived we felt right at home - welcomed with a choice of tea or coffee served with home cooked delicacies, Evelyne looked after us with a rare combination of Swiss precision and bubbling enthusiasm.

Preparing delicious food is a passion for Evelyne - with the ingredients sourced locally, or from her own garden. With her kitchen adjacent to the lounge, felt like we were included in her own special world while we sipped our coffee and she prepared our meal.

The lodge is set high up in the Coromandel bush, with stunning panoramic views that seem to be a natural extension of the lodge itself. The ambience is therapeutic and it can be enjoyed from your own private deck, or in the comfort of the lounge and dining room.

Evelyne is also a very accomplished artist - and the lodge is beautifully decorated with both her own work and that of her late husband Raouf.

If you're coming to Coromandel for the first time, there is plenty to see and do. You could easily spend a week exploring the various attractions in the town, the stunning scenery around the coast, as well as what's on offer in the other towns around the Coromandel peninsula. Coromanel does attract many visitors over the summer months, but it is not a tourist town. It is a place to enjoy. Based at Buffalo Lodge, you can enjoy it in style!

A stay at Buffalo Lodge is truly a celebration of everything that is great about traveling.

Tucked away in the secluded hideaway of the Coromandel hills,
Buffalo Lodge is surrounded by beautiful bushland and looks out towards across the sleepy fishing town of Coromandel to Whanganui Island. The views at sunset are truly stunning and can be enjoyed on the main balcony of the Lodge itself.

Buffalo Lodge is presided over by its ever smiling and cheerful host Evelyn Siegrist-Huang who works morning, noon and night to ensure your stay is a happy one. Evelyn is a superb host, whose bubbly and welcoming personality get you in the holiday mood from the outset. She is also very knowledgeable about what to get up to in the local area.

Inside the Lodge's polished wooden interior is complemented with vibrant and stylish art pieces, many of them created by the Lodge's owner herself Evelyn..Comfy chairs provide a great place to snuggle up and read after a day out and about. Sizeable rooms give both privacy and space. Bathrooms are clean and well presented, and if you're lucky enough to stay in the honeymoon suite you can enjoy a bath looking directly out to the surrounding bush.

Outside, the grounds are immaculately kept, complete with resident chickens and produce garden all presided over by the friendly Keri, Evelyn's gorgeous dog.

Evelyn is also a French-trained chef and as a couple who really enjoy our food, my wife and I were in heaven as Evelyn served up a different gourmet masterpiece every morning and night of our stay. All products are sourced locally, and Evelyn has her own chickens for fresh morning eggs and roasts her own coffee beans on site..

The Lodge is in close proximity to popular local attractions like the Driving Creek Railway and a walk into town from the Lodge is an event in itself.

Waking up amidst the treetops to the sound of bell birds, stepping out onto the Lodge's balcony and looking out over the Gulf- do holidays get any better?

My wife and I cannot recommend the Lodge highly enough and will definitely be making another visit. I'm looking forward to the food already!

One of the highlights when we've shown various friends and family round NZ over the last few years has been a weekend at Buffalo Lodge. The lodge is set amongst beautiful native bush and has fabulous views over the peninsula and the sea, everyone who visits with us is overcome by the setting. Bring your camera!
Evelyne is a great host as well as a great chef. The breakfast is fresh, local produce and made to order. The lounge and dining area is framed by the view on one side and original art around the walls. We're already looking forward to our next guests and another visit!

Evelynne makes this oustanding place like a home from home. She couldn't do enough for us, and nothing was too much trouble. Wonderful scenery and wonderful wildlife (especially the no-pork owls!). Convenient for the town, but not too close so still felt rural. It was perfect. We highly recommend this lodge to anyone wanting a relaxing break.
