Evelynne makes this oustanding place like a home from home. She couldn't do enough for us, and nothing was too much trouble. Wonderful scenery and wonderful wildlife (especially the no-pork owls!). Convenient for the town, but not too close so still felt rural. It was perfect. We highly recommend this lodge to anyone wanting a relaxing break.

We have stayed with Evelyne, the owner, for many years and always enjoy the lovely, clean rooms and beautiful views. The lodge has a remote, majestic setting on the mountain side and offers lots of hiking but is close enough to Coromandel to walk if desired. We continue to enjoy her gourmet fare and plan to visit again in 2009!

Buffalo Lodge has superb views yet is discreetly hidden away in the bush above Cormandel Town. The warm friendly welcome from Evelyn who runs it could not be bettered. She offers what must be the best coffee in any establishment in New Zealand... she is passionate about good coffee. She roasts her own beans and then uses a hand pressured espresso machine putting the delicious coffee into hot cups...and gives you as many as you can take before you fly!!!! She also has her own chucks for really perfect fresh eggs. Evelyn trained in another life as a chef in Europe so knows about good food and presentation. Like many b/b hosts she is a mine of local information for this beautiful part of the North Island....and is happy to advise you about local restaurants down in town and things to throughout your stay,,,that is if you can bear tolleave the lodge!!!! The house is full of interesting art, books, music and things....so if you can bring yourself to leave the views from the balconies there is plenty to do after watching blissful sunsets. The wow factor is very high here.

my husband and I have stayed at Buffalo Lodge on several occasions over the last 10 years. We have always enjoyed Evelyne's friendly and welcoming hospitality and delicious home cooked (she is a trained chef) cuisine. Watch the sun set over the Coromandel Harbour from the deck or relax in your comfortable room. Set in 5 acres of bush it is quiet and peaceful (there is no TV). We always leave feeling recharged and love the quaint Coromandel Town. The main house is also a gallery for Evelyne's art. We love coming here. The Coromandel Peninsula has its own kiwi charm and diversity of people and scenery.
