Owner description: A full day tour to the remote and magnificent Northern Coromandel. Pickup in Coromandel town, and travel up the pohutukawa-fringed coast road. There is a full commentary. Look out for dolphins and orca! Then start your 10km (3-4hr) walk on the Coromandel Coastal Walkway, where the views are breathtaking. You are met at the end of your walk with refreshments, maybe have a swim, then you are driven back to Coromandel town. There is also a shorter 3km walk down a ridge-line and along the glorious Port Jackson beach - or you can just stay on the bus for the scenic drive! We own and operate Breakaway B&B if you want somewhere to stay

Thoroughly recommend this trip! We were driven for about three hours through some beautiful scenery (over interesting roads....), then we walked for about the same time through more amazing scenery, and, after a very welcome cup of tea and cake, were taken home. Michael, our guide, was helpful and informative, but best of all, an excellent driver. The road was narrow and hilly with some very tight turns. Best way to see this part of the country!

Fabulous day out. Thoroughly enjoyed being able to get to the top of the peninsula, would never have got there otherwise.
Mike our driver was amazing, he told us everything about the area from the history to geology to plants and wild life.
The winding gravel roads were no problem to Mike so we were very relaxed whilst driving along.
The walk is challenging but not difficult and very enjoyable.
We were picked up from our accommodation, driven to our drop off point and collected at the end of the walk.
We were welcomed back by Mike and a very nice cup of tea, biscuits and home made cake, yummy.
I have no hesitation in recommending this tour, money well spent in my book.

Having had a knee replacement less than a year ago this was to be the real test! What a fabulous walk, climb, hike, but never crawl, this was. I did it in just over 3 hours so matched the best of them! Delightful drive up and back with tea from a flask and yummy cake at the other end - thanks hugely to our hostess, Barbara, whose knowledge and expert driving made the whole experience totally satisfying. I have lovely pictures to remind me, and to prove to folks back home that the new knee is fab! What will I be able to do with two knee replacements I wonder.

If you want to do the coastal walkway tour (10 k of track) then this is the best option. This company was warmly recommended by the manager of Shelly Beach Top 10, who did our bookings for us. Michael, the driver and guide, picked us up at our campsite, drove us on roads we wouldn't have wanted to drive on ourselves and provided a really interesting commentary on the way. At the start of the walkway he provided us with a rather good map and advice which helped us enjoy the walk, and then waited patiently at the other end of the track with tea and cake. The minibus seated 7 people, all good companions, but we didn't have to walk as a group, and so we were able to go at our own pace. If you are not a New Zealander, then be warned that we thought that the suggested walking time for this hike was very optimistic, especially if you want to pause and enjoy the amazing scenery. We appreciated the fact that the pace for the whole day was relaxed and leisurely. This was one of the highlights of our 5-week trip to New Zealand.

Coromandel Discovery Day Trip: The Coromandel Coastal Walkway. Following the recommendation of a friend, this seemed like a good way to walk a scenic track only once - they drop you off at one end and pick you up at the other. As we were staying in Whitianga, we drove across to the rendezvous point in Coromandel town to meet the minibus. Guide and driver Barbara was brilliant: she offered information and insights on the landscape and the environment as she drove along. This was an early point in our NZ trip so the orientation she provided on conservation work (which we later revisited in other places) was really of value. She is also great fun and has loads of stories - this is not a lecture tour! The winding and steep gravel roads are of course interesting (!!) although we were completely confident of our driver and vehicle.

The walk was great, we loved it. Many birds presented themselves including gannet, NZ kingfisher, tui, bellbird. It was our good fortune to be there on a beautiful sunny day in spring, with blue and turquoise all around us in the sea and the sky. And it was quiet as well, a bonus. Reaching Stony Bay was rewarded with home made cake and tea/coffee magicked up by Barbara.

Well worth our organised and early start from Whitianga, we still had time for a proper evening back there, which would definitely not have been the case under our own steam (diesel, actually) with twice the 3-4 hour walk and driving speeds in the hired vehicle lowered by our unfamiliarity! A terrific day, highly recommended.
