Cheapest place to park your camper or van for the night a top the peninsula. It's also very pretty, clean and friendly. Only 20mins from coromandel you may as well make it your stop if your doing the loop.

Visit before it gets really really popular. We visited in a camper van and it cost us 28 NZD for a powered site with bathroom and shower access. The place is a 6th generation family farm and the hosts are lovely! You can milk a goat in the morning and feed all the other animals.

During the day you can relax in a mountain stream, go for a walk and see some spectacular views and waterfalls or just listen to the birds chirping. If you have a tent there are plenty of spaces to pitch it too.

All the amenities have helpful notes on them on how to use them and you are provided with a hand-drawn map of the area to plan you walks.

Room Tip: If you park next to the feijoa you will have a delicious breakfast in the morning but the falling fr...

We chose to stay in a tent next to a stream. $12 a night is a great price, considering you have access to hot shower and a fridge and freezer. There are lots of things to do, swimming, horse riding and helping to feed the farm animals in the morning, We were lucky with great weather, one thing I enjoyed was that there was very few biting bugs compared to other areas next to rivers.

The one thing they could do to improve things is better internet access - there is internet, but wireless access is limited to near the camp office which isn't much use if you're camping.

If you're not into tenting, there is backpacker accommodation, or cabins in the woods. The cool thing about the cabins is they are powered with hydro-electricity.

Ngaire and family are lovely hosts and I'd recommend the horse treks too. Our children loved building a dam in the stream and going on the quad bike with Ngaire to feed the farm animals.
The Green Snapper Cafe down the road is highly recommended too! My mates have been coming back to the lodge for 10 years now so it must be good!

Room Tip: Only saw the lodge with a nice deck wrapped around the corner with its own garden, very secluded.
