“This is a group of elegant, comfortable villas in an enchanted setting in a delightful town near the sea.”
Reviewed April 18, 2010

I spent two nights at Driving Creek Villas with my daughter and a niece in March this year and we were so sorry our stay had to be so short. Our villa was spacious, beautifully furnished and very comfortable, with a large sitting room, kitchen, double bedroom and spacious bathroom downstairs and a three-bed bedroom upstairs. Outside we had a large verandah and lawn, with outdoor furniture, and a hot tub. Luxurious! The surroundings were delightful, with a large grassed reserve full of trees and native birds we could look down on from the sitting room. We loved it, and we loved Coromandel too, great cafes and good food, lovely sea views. We all three recommend these villas for comfort and value.

This is my second stay at Driving Creek Villas, the first was in January, 2010, in Tokatea villa, the second in March, in the larger Moehau villa. I thought after the first stay, I would not be able to add any more superlatives to the list I had, for my stay but ... I was proven pleasantly wrong and hence the writing of this review to share with others. The appeal of the villas for me were numerous. From their absolute privacy, to their clever, tasteful and spacious design, to the beautiful setting in the surrounding lush gardens, they are such a winner! Self contained, they have everything you would want for a restful, romantic weekend with your significant other. We loaded up with delicious foods & wine and arrived to be greeted by David (host, owner & builder) who welcomed us with all the things we needed to know to while away the hours in absolute luxury & relaxation. Definitely value for money and a memorable stay (night hot spa under the stars with glass of wine ... mmmm). I know I will be back for more, to sleep to the lull of the nearby creek and wake to the call of the Tui's, magic!

A very tranquil and private villa in a natural bush setting located just 2kms maybe less from Coromandel township. The villa has very modern amenities with spacious lounge/dining/kitchen looking out to private deck and bbq area with the native bush as a backdrop. The bathroom downstairs next to the main bedroom was very spacious and modern and upstairs was a large room with three single beds. But as it was just for hubby and me we didn't need that space. David the owner has gone to a great deal of trouble providing the amenities and the Tokatea Villa we stayed in was fabulous. The Japanese hot tub was magical after the end of each busy day. There was a very large pukekohoe bird wandering around the lower shared garden and the creek was apparently great fun for children staying previously who found eels in there. Lots of native birdlife to watch and listen to. Would highly recommend, especially after comparing rates with other so-called similar local properties. The township offers several good cafes and Pepper Tree restaurant was of a very high standard. Local arts and crafts were good in the town.

This was my last place to stay in New Zealand and possibly the nicest. I has a lovely, well equipped villa in a beautiful exotic bush garden. Driving Creek villas are on the edge of Coromandel town and give easy access to the area. They are set in individual gardens and have a high degree of privacy. David the owner is helpful and friendly and provided advice on what to see and where to go.

We stayed here for two nights as a relaxing end to our two week trip to New Zealand. As it was our last two nights we wanted something a little more special and we definitely got it. The villa was very nice, with a large well-equipped kitchen area, complete with dishwasher, microwave, large fridge freezer and full cooker/oven. It also has a washing machine. As well as the master bedroom which has a very comfy bed and silky soft sheets, there is a loft bedroom upstairs which is perfect for children.
The outside area of the villa was the highlight for us. There are patio doors from both the living area and the master bedroom. We ate dinner and breakfast each morning at the outdoor table and chairs which overlook the beautiful garden and stream (Driving Creek). It feels private and away from it all. There are also two sun loungers which were great and two mountain bikes, complete with locks and helmets, which we wish we’d used but ran out of time. The best part however was the Japanese hot tub outside and the gas BBQ, both of which we made full use of. Some minor annoyances were that the TV is in the corner of the dining area rather than the sitting area which makes it difficult to watch, especially as it is small screen, unless you sit at the dining table. Also, the DVD is a combined hi-fi stereo and bizarrely there was no play button which was annoying when you paused a DVD!
The bathroom is large but the shower is not enclosed which meant most of the bathroom floor got wet which was a bit annoying. There is no separate bath tub, perhaps because of the outdoor hot tub, though this did not matter to us.
David, the owner/manager was really friendly and welcomed us when we arrived (after we called him on the intercom) and had lots of suggestions for things to do in the area and a couple of dining recommendations. Overall a really enjoyable stay in a beautiful location.
