Firstly, owner Ray is quite a raconeur and cannot do enough for you. We had booked the studio for three nights. Brilliant, just what we wanted. It was large, spacious and private with verandah and decking. To describe the property as a motel gives a somewhat misleading impression. Hidden on the hillside overlooking Coromandel Town it is an absolute rural escape . It is certainly different and perfect for those who want to escape from the typical tourist accommodation. A perfect retreat.

Our one night stay here turned out to be the best of the entire trip around the Coromandel. We were truly delighted by the charm and character of the place.. so much better than your bog standard hotel! Sitting out on our deck amongst the bush in peace and privacy was just so incredibly relaxing and a great get-away.. I wish we could have stayed much longer. Thanks to Ray who is a fantastic host with great local knowledge! We shall be back!

My girlfriend and I visited NZ for the first time in October and did a 7 night tour of the North Island. For two of those nights we stayed in Coromandel in the Celadon Motel. The motel was very well kept and had a great atmosphere! Each room was equipped with a mini fridge, plates, silverware, etc which made it nice to bring food back to the room and relax. The gardens outside are gorgeous and create a feeling of tranquility like no other place we visited. The owner, Ray, is a great host with a plethora of knowledge about the area. He directed used to many sites and friendly people. If I ever go back, this place is on my list! Coromandel is a town to visit if you want to kick back and relax, you can really take in the beauty of NZ here! Please visit the Celadon, you will not regret it, I promise!

While I probably wouldn’t book The Cabin again for our next visit I would stay at Celadon again, just a personal choice but for the young and in love wanting privacy above everything else (and maybe some not so young) and those who just really want to be away from everything else in their own small space The Cabin is a perfect choice with lovely views. Also (as my Hubby has just pointed out) The Cabin might be a good choice for someone travelling on business who simply wants an “I’m away from the world now” kind of place to go chill at the end of a busy working day… it has that kind of ambiance.

Celadon is a lovely property with character, not so much a typical motel, something difficult to describe. If you want pristinely identical units… don’t go there. If you want something that the owner is offering with real feeling then you are probably going to the right place. We asked, and were shown through prior to leaving, both the Studio Unit and the Fern Lodge… both lovely. Maybe not to everyone’s tastes, I know a lot of people want up to date, latest, flashest etc. but we really liked both units and would feel very comfortable staying in either of them, both units have their own ’vibe’, which would be hard to come by from ‘identikits’ type places.

The Fern Lodge has the views, the Studio is set in lovely garden grounds (no views out over the water but really pleasant).

There is also The Chalet which would be incredibly good value for a largish number of people wanting to stay together.

Overall this is a nice place to stay with good personal input. Wishing you all the best Ray and hope to see you again at some, not too distant point, in the future.

We drove up to the coromandel from Hamilton, after flying from Wellington. And we were hot and tired when we finally found the Celadon Motel nestled in New Zealand bush.
The manager was incredibly friendly and immediatley set about trying to make our stay the most amazing experience possible - and reccomended the highlight of our trip, a half day cruise on a trimeran!
We were staying in the more seperate room, still attached to the house but down a path and through the car port, filled with amazing pottery creations.
The room was a little small and dated - but everything was clean and worked fine. Our room contained A small kitchen, dining table, queen bed, and two singles (in the same room) as well as (supposed) wireless internet access and a small balcony over looking there amazing fruit garden.
corromandel is a great little town, it lacked the beack we thought it had, but in our 3 nights there (and 3 nights in whitianga) we had a great time, our highlights being - the train ride (can't remember the name but its a cool ride on a miniture train up a hill side) The wateworks park (can't remeber the name either, but it is a quirky awesome attraction) and the cruise - not to mention the food.
So all in all It's a nice NZ motel (more of a homestay) - can't say anything about the other room except that it is above the house- that has plenty of character (and also lacks parking space) But definitley made our holiday an enjoyable one!

We had a fantastic 2-night stay in the Celadon motel and regretted that we couldn't stay for longer. We had booked the Fern Lodge, but on arrival were informed that we had been upgraded to the Chalet for no extra cost. We were met by Ray who had obviously made a effort to be there and make things easy for us on arrival. He had thoughtfully put a jug of milk in the fridge so we could have tea before we had to go to the shops. The chalet was rustic and beautiful with a convenient parking space just outside. The bedrooms were clean, tidy and tastefully furnished. The beds were comfortable and warm, the bedding clean and the area was very quiet at night. The kitchen was well furnished with a large fridge, a cooker and plenty of crockery.

Ray was very friendly and helpful, but not imposing. The service we received was excellent. I really enjoyed staying here and am keen to go back on our next holiday or long weekend. I would highly recommend it.
