Owner description: Release the child within and experience New Zealand's quirkiest theme park. Voted by AA Tourism as a must-do Kiwi experience The Waterworks is a theme park with a difference. Set in 5 acres of native Coromandel Bush and just 10 minutes from Coromandel Town is an array of water powered inventions, quirky contraptions and fun to discover at every turn. Inspired by the ability to create something new out of something old our attractions are made largely from recycled materials and are powered by water. Water is used to keep time on the wooden water clock; watch out though it often works on Coromandel time. We've got water cannons to blast away on and bikes that pump H2O. Our human sized hamster wheel is an absolute hoot and our mad inventions leave people wondering "what the".As well as the 70+ attractions to look at, play on, or interact with, The Waterworks has a generous adventure playground area perfect for picnics, an onsite café, free use of BBQs and a natural swimming hole to cool off in during the hot summer months.

My husband & I stopped off at this attraction while travelling Number 309 road to Coromandel township. Definitely "quirky", unique place to visit! we spent our time there admiring the quirky exhibits (quite a few of them interactive, so great for ppl with children). We went on 2 flying foxes - pretty hair-raising, as they look very basic & you wonder if the wooden "brake" system is going to stop you at the end! (we did stop & because of this, we commend the inventor on his genius;))

My husband & I also tried out the "mouse wheel" & couldn't stop laughing as we rolled around inside it (just big kids at heart, I guess). A surreal part of our visit was perhaps the "long-drop" which as the title suggests, is really a long-drop & the only public toilet there!

Definitely Recommend.

A lovely drive around the Coromandel water, over the hill (stop for a photo opportunity at the top) then carry on over the single lane bridge (watch for the oncoming locals) and up the 309 road to a haven of water and fun.

Great for adults and children. Lovely cafe, great things for the children to explore and much quirky humour.

We spent 4 hours there and didn't get to see everything.

Make sure you have togs for the children and towels. They WILL get wet.

If it rains the owners provide umbrellas...

Spent a morning here on our travels around NZ last month, and really enjoyed it.

It was not busy at all, and we enjoyed the various displays and our 4 year old loved getting hands on with the various displays and things to operate, squirt water etc!

The playground was great too and the waterhole looked like it would be great in the heat of summer. Our daughter loved the floating boats and the jumbo swing tyre too.

We also really enjoyed the boards giving facts and oddities and some of them are really funny:)

Worth a visit for sure.
