Owner description: Barry Brickell (acclaimed potter, painter, engineer and conservationist) started building the railway 35 years ago to bring clay from the hillside to his pottery. This amazing switch-back railway climbs the mountain to the 'Eyeful Tower' with magnificent views over the Hauraki Gulf. The one hour return journey incorporates superb engineering with 2 spirals, 3 short tunnels, 5 reversing points and several large bridges. Unique pottery sculptures and tile walls line the track through a regenerating forest setting. Back at the station watch the DVD about Barry and the railway. Enjoy a walk in the sculpture garden followed by a bush walk in the predator free native sanctuary. Pottery, souvenirs, mini-bricks, books and the DVD are available to purchase in our craft shop. Tours Times: Summer- 9.00am, 10.15am, 11.30am, 12.45pm, 2.00pm, 3.15pm, 4.30pm and 5.45pm Daily Winter - 10.15am, 11.30am, 12.45pm, 2.00pm, 3.15pm and 4.30pm Daily As this attraction is extremely popular we strongly suggest you book your seat; especially over the summer period.

Had a wonderful morning on the train. The scenery was wonderful at the top from the eyeful tower. Amazing the work from one person building the rail line. Would recommend this for anyone, views are breathtaking.

A fun ride on a narrow gauge railway. The scenery during the ride is very nice and the view from the "Eyeful Tower" is Great. What this place has done with recycled wine bottles is unique; use of pottery and excellent commentary from the train "engineer" adds to the enjoyment of the trip. The ride is worth the cost.

This is more than a train ride for railway anoraks! It's a quirky narrow gauge railway initially built to serve a pottery but now a big tourist attraction for everyone. You get a very interesting ride to the top of a mountain to the "eyeful" tower which has great views, and of course down again so you have two chances too see all the interesting features not found on you average railway - like the retaining wall built of wine bottles! Our engine driver doubled as our guide and was informative and safety conscious.
There is also a pottery, gift shop and café; all in all a great little attraction.

It's a place for old and young. Quite busy but worth to see in Coromandel. The railway was build for commercial use for the pottery below the hills to transport the clay. It's not a railway how you know, it's a mountain climbing one. Created by a man's dream and done with hard work. Nice place to visit, nice view on the top and very interesting during driving.
