“Great find”
Reviewed July 11, 2013 via mobile

We were driving through and stumbled to it. Price was reasonable, room was super clean, and breakfast good. What makes it great was the incredible views from the grounds, lovely and quiet. Owner was quite friendly and helpful. Well worth a stop.

I have stayed at this property no less than 15 times in the last 4 years. It is a peaceful, low profile place to be.Exactly why I love it.Not over the top on price and yes perhaps a bit rough around the edges but if you want more than absolute peace and quiet, clean and well kept cottages, good quality towels and linens, free breakfast and the morning paper and let's not forget the view....They have rules to keep it this way.

I have stayed at this property no less than 10 times in the past 15 years, but last August 2012 was the first time with the new owners. The location was good for our needs, and the room was in better shape than I remember (although not great, as you'll see from the other reviews).

The issue, however, was the owner, Russell. We had brought our dog, and I had two lengthy conversations prior to our stay regarding all the rules on how they wanted the dog handled on the property. I followed these rules to the letter. But when I put the dog in the car for breakfast that next morning, the owner came over from across the property and verbally assaulted me for reasons I don't know. When I asked his wife for an explanation of what we did wrong, he came over and again was verbally abusive, to the point of making threats this time, right in front of his wife. We left immediately, never to return again.

I waited almost a year to write this review - I appreciate the efforts that they are making as business owners, and Carol was very pleasant. But I never heard from them regarding any sort of apology, and Russell's behavior was deeply troubling. I worry about the next time he is triggered into a rage.

In short, stay away. It is a great location, but by no means worth the risk.

Recently spent two nights in one of their two bedroom cottages. Very clean, plenty of towels, bedding, dishes, etc. There was a large fridge in the cottage along with a stovetop, microwave and toaster oven, coffee maker, etc. Basically you need only to bring your own food and you will have everything you need. It is a very short walk to a beautiful beach. As the weather was cold I walked the beach with my Winter coat on, however I'm sure it is fantastic in the Summertime. The owners are very friendly and welcoming and provide a lovely, continental breakfast in the morning. As well, a short walk from the cottages is a very nice restaurant with good food, overlooking the beach.

Would not hesitate to recommend this location for a getaway.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August. The owners, Carol and Russell, were extremely friendly, welcoming, and down-to-earth. The one bedroom cottage we stayed in was fairly simple, but had everything you'd need and more.
The beach is a stone's throw away and was great for long walks, but even in August the water was more Arctic than Caribbean for swimming. I tried it once. Only once.
We left feeling relaxed and extremely happy with our stay.

We were searching for a place to stay and came across a hidden motel that was an absolute gem. The sheets were crisp and clean and the hospitality was amazing. We enjoyed walking on the beach, that is very close to the motel, the evening we arrived. In the morning we were greated with smiles and warm cheese biscuits. We LOVED listening to the ocean waves as we lay down for a restful sleep. Don't pass up a chance to stay. You won't regret it.

Although Mavillette beach is one of the finest in Nova Scotia, the owners at Cape View Motel & Cottages know NOTHING about Nova Scotian hospitality and customer service. We stayed in the one room cottage which had mouldy ceilings and rusted bathrooms. Very dated and claustrophobic inside but could have been overlooked had it not been for the extremely rude behavior of the owner. There are no restaurants or amenities nearby. Do yourself a favor, stay in Yarmouth and make the drive to Mavilette beach for a day trip.

It is always interesting what people can find wrong with others after being stood-up for their own actions.
Allthough we are a pet friendly property we take great offense to people who show up with out disclosing that they have 2 large dogs, one a Pit Bull, and proceed to let them run around unleashed, out of sight and defecating where they might.
Out of concerns for our customers comfort and safety we have 3 pet rules, always on leash, never left unattended and use the half acre dog walk area for nature needs. Most responsible pet owners have no problem with these rules and expect them when traveling with pets to public areas.
