“terrible hotel do not let yourchild go to this hotel on a school trip”
Reviewed March 13, 2011

room 630 was shared by three teenagers on a school sking trip for weekend. room was filthy. smelt of a public toilet and could not use shower. meals were cold and over cooked. one key opens all bedrooms so where is security. at the price this hotel charges you would expect better than this.

Hotel rooms were clean, but with old fashioned fittings and decor. No overhead shower in room 402 only a bath no non slip mat supplied although you could rent one from reception!!. The hotel appeared to be cutting costs to the bare minium the food was adequate but plain, the highlight of the day was a buffet style full scottish breakfast wich to be fair was superb. The fireplace was never cleared or tidied up for the 5 days of holiday which was full of various sweet wrappers etc, gave a bad impression on entering.. Tea making situated on a shelf directly below TV, very dangerous as it is and accident waiting to happen, i.e. water/electricity not a good mix.

Overall this hotel has been taken over from the previous owners and as mentioned they are in cost cutting mode and it shows.Entertainment most nights okay.

This hotel is used by the Newmarket group as a base for their Scenic Scottish Railway tours. It is not the sort of hotel you should choose.
The food is terrible and be prepared to eat at the other hotel in the village which supplies edible food.
The rooms are of a low standard, shower curtains hanging off, taps move, every flooboard seems to creak.

I've been looking for somewhere to stay on route to the Orkneys and will be coming back here. I thought it was slightly better than your normal 3 star Highland hotel. It has some very good things about it. The staff for a start and very friendly and warm. The breakfast was very good even thou it was under the hot lamps, with the bacon and toast excellent. It is in the heart of some of the Scottish Highlands. It was not that busy considering Inverness is only 20 odd miles away and it was in August.

Stayed for one night with my husband. On our way to the room there were numerous buckets on stairways and corridors. The same buckets were in the same places the next morning when we went for breakfast. Some of the buckets were holding a door open. The bedroom itself was fine, spotlessly clean but noise was a bit of a problem (at least where we were). The place seems to undergoing some rework at present, the receptiom area is very dated. There was about twice when we went to reception and no one was there. On the morning we exited we hand to stand at reception for about 5 minutes before we could pay. One of the cleaning staff had to find someone for us so that we could pay & leave. The breakfast was poor. The food appeared to have been cooked about 2 hours earlier. The tomoatoes served with the breakfast were plum tomatoes from a tin!! The lady who served the food was nice and doing her best but the breakfast really was no great shakes. The stairs are very narrow in some places. Corridors long with numerous turns - Not easy to get to your room or to get your luggage to your room. The internet was unavailable the evening we arrived and was still unavailable the next morning. As I said I think its a work in progress.

We travelled as part of a coach party and stayed 4 nights in the Carrbridge Hotel. First impression on arriving was that the public areas were dark dingy and and run down . Our bedroom (room 412) was one of the modernised ones but even that had faults - constant bad smell in the bathroom, dodgy lock on the bedroom door -not joking- on the third morning we were actually locked in the bedroom and had to call reception to let us out - thank goodness there wasn't a FIRE! -even though we had questioned the reliability of the lock when we first arrived.. Nothing was replenished (toilet rolls facial tissues soap etc.) unless we rang and requested them. On the first night my husbands arm bled slightly on the sheets and the stain was still there when we left. We were positioned directly over the function room where the nightly entertainment was provided. Fortunately it finished around 10.45 to 11 p.m. because you couldn't sleep as there was no sound proofing between floors. We even had to request a handset for the TV.

The food was not good. Black holes in potatoes, rancid butter pats on the table at breakfast, Waiting staff most of whom had obviously never had any formal training.
Our meals were served in one of the function rooms not the hotel dining room, which made me feel like a second class citizen. The feeling amongst the guests there was that coach parties were not really wanted but were tolarated. Incidently I would estimate that during the time I was there coach party guests accounted for at least 95% of people staying there.

Having never been to Scotland before I have no previous experience of Scottish hotels to compare this hotel against. I have travelled extensively to Europe and America and I can say that compared to them this hotel is poor.

Bedrooms were quite "tired" but very clean.
The food was plain "Home Cooking" - Maybe the main hotel menu was better, but as we were with a coach party we had a separate menu and ate in a separate room, which we found rather disappointing!!
The hotel is very well situated for travellingto town (Inverness), country, mountains and many tourist attractions. We would return as "individual" guests for the friendliness of the staff and position of the hotel.
