“A really unique and peaceful experience”
Reviewed July 18, 2011

We stayed only one night at Newforge as we were attending a friend's birthday party in a nearby town. We arrived after a long drive and ferry crossing from the UK with limited time to recharge, wash and change. The welcome was warm, genuine and we were offered fresh coffee or tea. The room we had was stunning and the owner had kindly upgraded us at no charge as they were not full that night. Our bathroom was wonderfully appointed, spotlessly clean and with an abundance of hot water and fluffy towels. A taxi was arranged for us, and on returning late that night our room had been turned down, shutters pulled and lights left on. After a peaceful night we feasted on a cracking Ulster breakfast and took time to wander around the beautiful mature gardens, hunting out the chickens who had supplied the eggs at our substantial breakfast. It was like The Secret Garden! This is an excellent place to stay; it still feels like a house and home but with all the conveniences of a top rate guest house. The welcome is warm, the owner clearly loves the property and its history and wants guests to feel relaxed. Many places could learn a lot from how Newforge create their guest experience. We will be back I hope!

I've stayed here twice in the last year and could not fault it. The staff are so friendly and welcoming you immediately feel at home. The House is small with 6 bedrooms so if you're looking for a quiet night away this is the perfect place. The rooms are so well maintained with period features, some bathrooms have roll-top baths but also modern showers. Dining is limited to two options for starters, main and desserts but I've always been happy with the options and the service throughout dinner is excellent.

Overall I love Newforge House, would have no hesitation in recommending it and will definitely be going back!

I have always wanted an intimate wedding with close family and friends. Somewhere we would feel relaxed and pampered with excellent food and that's exactly what we got and more. We were made to feel that nothing was a problem even all the children running around doing what children do. I can not fault our experience and would like to thank all the staff for making our day perfect.

Having just enjoyed our wedding and reception at Newforge House we would highly recommend this venue in every way. From the beautiful backdrop of the house and gardens to the wonderful food and excellent service we had a perfect day in every way.The staff were so accommodating during the run up to the wedding and throughout we really couldn't overstate how fantastic they were. I know that all of the guests were wowed by this spectacular find and we can't wait to find an excuse to return.

I have stayed in hundreds of hotels/inns and this is the one that finally warranted a review, thanks to the overwhelming beauty of the house and gardens, the delicious food and drink, and the incredible attentive and kind hosts.

Have a drink on the front lawn, don't miss the gardens behind the house, and take a trip into the nearby town for more food and culture. If you are ANYWHERE NEAR the Newforge House, do yourself a favor and stop for a visit.

We had a wonderful night away at Newforge House; the house is beautiful with so much character set in such a tranquil setting. On arrival we had delicious home made shortbread and tea in the lounge before going up to our room. It was our wedding anniversary and a surprise bottle of bubbly awaited us in our room. The bedroom was amazing big 4 posted bed with period furnishing and a beautiful view. The food is fantastic, John is a very talented chef and our dinner was scrumptious packed with flavour. We had a great nights sleep as it is so peaceful and in the morning again enjoyed a fabulous breakfast with fresh eggs from their own chickens and beautiful local bacon and breads. The welcome and service we received was outstanding and we will be back. Put Newforge House on your must do list!!
