“Overnight Stay”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

We stayed here for a night after arriving into the airport late at night.

Check-in was quick and easy although it was at 2am so may be longer in afternoons. We were given two hot cookies which was a nice touch and much needed after a 5 hour flight.

Room was big and nicely furnished HUGE bed again greatly need after the long flight. Tea/coffee in room with some more biscuits.

The bathroom was nice with a bath and overhead shower nice, nice big fluffy towels and nice toiletries.

Even though this is an airport hotel we were never disturbed by any noise from the planes. The rooms have big blackout curtains so not woken by daylight.

My only disappointment is we were not there to enjoy the hotel longer!

I have stayed here 3 times now in the last 10 months and have certainly seen some changes for the worse. I have stayed for 3 nights, 5 nights & my last stay was 7 nights, so possibly tend to notice things more than if I was just on an overnight stop.

Since my first visit in September the heated towel rails have all been turned off. Yet again not a problem if you are only staying one night, but it means there is no heat in the bathrooms in the winter months.

The free internet speed has been restricted unless you are willing to pay extra.

The sheets regularly have holes in them, they don't mention that on their website where it says they are 300 thread-count. On a previous visit I had to point out to room service that the clean sheet she was putting on had a hole in it, this time the sheet that was on the bed when I arrived had a hole in it. Not what you expect from a hotel of this caliber.

There is a charge of £5 for over night parking. My advice is to check your bill when you leave. I was charged £35 for overnight parking until I pointed out I don't even have a car.

The tv in the room at times isn't watchable because the signal is so poor the picture keeps breaking up.

The aircon is so noisy it is hard to sleep with it running.

I found on a couple of occasions the columbus bar wasn't as clean as it could be, both tables and floor covered in remains of someones meal.

But all in all it is still a nice place to stay. The staff on both reception and in the bar I have found have always been really helpful and friendly. This time I didn't get to meet the lady that cleaned my room, but I know on my previous stay she was very friendly and helpful. Extra room supplies of tea, coffee etc are readily available. It is also a hotel where I feel quite comfortable and safe as a lone traveler and yes I will be staying again in September. Lets hope their aren't any more cutbacks by then

Dear Gertietoo, thank you for taking the time to write a review of our hotel. I am sorry to read that you had issues during your stay with your bed linen and tv signal. We are currently investigating these comments and I can assure you that this will be dealt with. I am glad however that you found the service from our bar and reception to be friendly and helpful, as you would expect from a DoubleTree hotel. I hope that we will be able to welcome you back in future.

Good hotel - reception on arrival a little curt - could have been friendlier - cookies 'thrown' across on check in! All else in hotel good. Ideal location for visiting family or travelling around the North East.

Me and my friend stayed at the Hilton for 2 nights on 28th June 2013, for a wedding at the nearby kirkley hall, the hotel was fantastic. Beds were very comfortable, staff friendly, hotel was well maintained. As an airport hotel did not hear 1 airplane. Breakfast was fantastic on behalf if we were really nitpicking bacon had too much fat on. But the hotel was probably the best hotel I have ever stopped in.

This is a nicely finished modern hotel right beside the airport. It is good value, feels well run with clean well-appointed rooms, has really comfortable beds, and serves quite a good Hilton breakfast. It is a good choice, overall, and meets the expected Hilton standard.

Stayed here before our trip to Italy in June 13.

Excellent location to the airport, room, service and food were very good.

We have stayed here a number of times before and will be happy to return again. Booked in advance and got a really good rate.

Stayed one night at the Double Tree in Newcastle on business - Right next to the airport, ample parking and direct access to newcastle metro service. Great quality hotel, well appointed and great value - If only all hotels were this good!
