Owner description: A Trip Back In Time Come and meet our friendly staff and take a relaxing ride on our heritage steam train through the beautiful Mendip Countryside. The return journey takes approximately 40 minutes and is a 5 mile round trip. You pay once and you can ride the trains all day! As well as riding the train you can visit our engine shed and workshop and see our restoration projects up close, while away an hour or so chatting away to our very knowledgeable volunteers. We also have a signal box and miniature railway (these are only open on specific dates), small museum, a big shop and cafe serving delicious homemade meals each day we are in steam. We also offer Cream Teas, High Teas and Sunday Lunches on specific dates which need to be booked in advance as they do sell out very quickly. Our season runs from March to October and then we run our Santa Specials in December.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Food available for purchase, Bathroom facilities

The East Somerset Railway is a credit to the staff and many volunteers who dedicate hours of their time keeping this heritage railway running. Well worth a visit !!

We drove along way to visit this steam railway, we took our dad for day out. We were very disappointed with the short length of track and very little to actually see at the other end of the track. The carriage we had to sit in was at the very end of the train . We were not allowed to sit in other carriages as there was a private party in those. The station looked to modern for us and the cafe was very expensive. Not very well sign posted either. The only plus was the staff were nice and friendly.

The track was only 5 mile round trip but there were lovely views and scenery. Our ticket was £8.50 (adult) each and we could ride the line as much as we liked on the day. The ticket also allowed us to visit the engine shed where we could see various engines and carriages being restored. It's a shame that there are a few miles of track going towards the quarry that they haven't got permission to use, as this would make the train journey twice as long.

We visted small working station at East Cranmore near Shepton Mallet in Aug 2012. We were taking our two small grandaughters out for the day, and delighted when we arrived because Thomas the Tank Engine was there for the weekend. We all had a fabulous day out, a little pricey for entrance fee but when we went inside there was plenty to do for everyone. We had a ride on Thomas, it was only about 25 mins but long enough with small children, and you could ride on Thomas as many times as you wanted to, the children loved it because the Fat Controller was on board too. There was a miniture railway, face painting, bouncy castles, roundabouts, Punch & Judy on the station platform. The shop was well stocked and reasonably priced, as was the reasturant. Great time had by all. We would like to give the afternoon Cream Tea a go next time. What I must mention was that the staff were so friendly and couldn't help you enough. Thank you for a wonderful day out. We will defiantly return.

We paid for 4 of us to have Sunday lunch on the train, it was a 3 course meal which i have to say was excellent value for money, good choice and well presented, staff were very friendly. We had 2 runs up and down the track and we were able to get out and wander along the side of the track whilst the engine turned to take us back.
