This was our second time staying here having previously stayed about 2 years ago. Thankfully, nothing has changed and this stay was as restful and pleasant as it was then. Gill and Donald are friendly hosts. Again we stayed in the Cottage, an annexe to the main house but which provides more space and the all important lounge area to relax in away from the bedroom. The garden is lovely and sitting out having a drink whilst the bantam chickens roam the garden is quite enjoyable. Maplestone is in a quiet area of Shepton Mallet; indeed I would say the most attractive part of town and only a two minutes walk to a very nice pub which serves excellent food. This is an excellent location for the Showground which is only a short drive away. Gill cooks an excellent breakfast, served with a warming and friendly smile by Donald. I highly recommend Maplestone and we look forward to returning again.

This property is excellent. The people running it are in the right business and could not have been more helpful. We were in the garden apartment which was good for us as we had heavy suitcases.
This property is well located as it is about 20 minutes from Wells, which is a beautiful cathedral city.
I would recommend this property to anyone.

Room Tip: The garden apartment is good

My friend and I stayed in the Oak room for 2 nights for the weekend 5th / 6th July. The steps to the room were steep but well worth the effort; the room was charming, very clean and self contained. The location was ideal as it was close to the Showground and Kilver Court yet out of the way enough to be very quiet. The house and gardens were beautiful and the breakfast freshly cooked from local produce. Last, but very definitely not least, Gill and Donald were the ideal hosts - welcoming and very happy to 'go the extra mile' for their guests. We will be recommending it to all our friends.

We stayed at the Maplestone for 2 nights and it was an absolute pleasure. We received a warm welcome and treated to a clean, comfortable character room. The garden is a delight and adds to the experience. Breakfast is cooked to order and and the wifi is efficient if needed. We would definitely stay again.

This place is a little gem with bags if character. The owners were extremely welcoming. The room was a good size, very clean with everything you'd need. Breakfast was lovely. The cottage itself is charming and there are beautiful chickens in the garden. I highly recommend staying here.

I wanted to share my wonderful experience at Maplestone, Shepton Mallet where I stayed with my partner last week, the 22nd & 23rd April. We were the guests of Donald & Gill Sinclair and I must say that of the many Home-stays, B&B's and small scale hotels I have stayed in, this has to be one of the best. Don & Gill were excellent because they were neither too obtrusive or lacking in any attention. I think this is a rare quality and certainly much appreciated by us. Maplestone, their cosy home (once a textile factory when The Quarr, where Maplestone is situated), was settled by immigrant Huguenots escaping the violent prejudices of Louis the XIVth in the 17th Century, all engaged in the fabric, dying and textile industry, at the heart of old Shepton Mallet. We were made very welcome. Its a great jump-off place for many interesting sites and festivals in the Bath-Bristol-Avon triangle. The amenities were perfect: clean comfortable rooms, shower rooms immaculate, oodles of hot water, WiFi connections - and the breakfasts were great and I mean that in both senses of the word! We wanted for nothing but never felt CLUTTERED. I HATE clutter! Small rooms filled with too many things so that you can barely move! These were generous rooms. I shall certainly return to Maplestone and would recommend it without hesitation.

Room Tip: Ask Don & Gill for the room at the end of the house. It has a separate entrance and is very priv...

We have just stayed for 4 nights in the cottage. It was immaculately clean, warm and had good quality bed linen. We liked the additional space this gave us, with a small kitchen area, complete with fridge and microwave, and a small lounge area. The shower room was a good size and has a simple but effective shower. Breakfast was good, especially the yoghurt and honey!. Donald was just right as a host - friendly, but not over the top! Area is good for travelling to the many attractions close by, although Shepton itself is a bit tired.

Room Tip: We liked having our own small cottage, and cannot comment on the other rooms available.
