I wanted to share my wonderful experience at Maplestone, Shepton Mallet where I stayed with my partner last week, the 22nd & 23rd April. We were the guests of Donald & Gill Sinclair and I must say that of the many Home-stays, B&B's and small scale hotels I have stayed in, this has to be one of the best. Don & Gill were excellent because they were neither too obtrusive or lacking in any attention. I think this is a rare quality and certainly much appreciated by us. Maplestone, their cosy home (once a textile factory when The Quarr, where Maplestone is situated), was settled by immigrant Huguenots escaping the violent prejudices of Louis the XIVth in the 17th Century, all engaged in the fabric, dying and textile industry, at the heart of old Shepton Mallet. We were made very welcome. Its a great jump-off place for many interesting sites and festivals in the Bath-Bristol-Avon triangle. The amenities were perfect: clean comfortable rooms, shower rooms immaculate, oodles of hot water, WiFi connections - and the breakfasts were great and I mean that in both senses of the word! We wanted for nothing but never felt CLUTTERED. I HATE clutter! Small rooms filled with too many things so that you can barely move! These were generous rooms. I shall certainly return to Maplestone and would recommend it without hesitation.
