We only ate at this pub, thank goodness. Service from the only staff was very good, but the poor girl was doing every thing, serving behind the bar, greeting guests for the hotel & waiting tables. Food was bad, the broccoli looked as if it was about two weeks old!

It's very difficult to review this hotel because one just doesn't know where to start. Firstly it's probably the most wierd and unusual hotel I have ever stayed in. It's a cross between olde worlde and art deco.
The building is very old, about 400 years I believe and some of the the newer parts don't seem to fit in. Overall it isn't too bad .The guy who runs it Tony is very nice and helpful and his staff are very nice too. They seem understaffed and Tony seems to be doing everything. My room was an outside room in the courtyard.very big but haphazardly furnished, very dark and a bit dingy. I had a super king size bed which was nice and comfy, a really big, good size tv and a large bathroom with a corner bath. The original stone floor didn't appeal to me but there were plenty of towels and washing stuff. The plumbing though was a joke with lots of wierd banging noises going on at all times ,day and night.
The biggest problem for me are the dogs wandering around all the time. I have no problem with dogs but in their right place and I don't like to see them in the kitchen and dining room. There is a constant smell of dog in the dining area and one is always hanging around while you are eating. Dogs and food don't mix!!!
I would like to praise it more only for the fact that the owner was so helpful and friendly but until they clean the place up and eradicate the problems I'm afraid I can't.
What I did notice however the place was always full and very busy so they must be doing something right. I had two meals in the restaurant but they were only average and the breakfast was poor to say the least.
One man's meat is another man's poison, so they say, so sorry Tony but I won't be returning.

We had seen many adverts in local papers following the refurb of the cafe at the Dusthole so we decided to try it out for breakfast. We arrived at 11.00 and were the only people there, and first impressions were that the decor was stylish, church pews and stained glass. But looking around you can't disguise that it's the old skittle alley. We ordered a full English and eggs benedict. After we had placed the order we heard the waitress speaking to the owner, asking if there was anyone to cook it. After a very long wait, during which we had finished our coffees, and not been offered chance for refills, the food arrived. I have rarely been rendered speechless by eggs benedict, but the sight of 6 poached eggs on my plate certainly did it. In what universe would a person want 6 poached eggs for breakfast? On top of 3 muffins, with chunks of ham? It was awful. The hollandaise tasted like vinegar, and after eating two of the eggs I admitted defeat and left the rest.
The full English was better but the sausages arrived ten minutes after the rest of it. No one offered us a second drink or asked if the food was ok. When we paid, the owner shouted to us from another room, to follow her as the credit card machine wasn't workIng.
All in all, a horrid experience.

After booking this hotel for a special occasion, we were very much looking forward to the idylic surroundings, great food and friendly staff detailed to us on the website. What a let down! One friendly barman, beautiful surroundings but food and management were lousy.
The hotel manager/chef was abrupt, rude, unhelpful and to be honest the worst landlord i have ever come across. To name but a few complaints there was, a broken toilet set(not fixed after complaining) No curtain on a glass see through door to the toilet did eventually put a blind on it after complaining but should never of been like it in the first place (told by landlord he had never had a complaint about it before what a load of rubbish!), no shaving point in the bathroom, a leaking shower pipes non stop all through the night.Dusty kettle and 2 old single beds pushed together with a continental quilt ontop advertised on the website as a kingsize bed shocking!
Breakfast time was just awful you HAVE to request as told by a very rude, abrupt landlord weather you want your poached egg soft or hard! absolutely ridiculous! dirty plates, cracked mugs and that is all you get to drink out of no small cups, no side plates to put toast on, no extra knives for spreading preserves.
Oh and top it all of a great big whopping Alsation dog is aloud to roam every where in the hotel even in the eating area and just sits and slobbers at you wanting to eat your food!
For near on £100 per night this was an overpriced, talked up hotel that did not live up to its Marco Pierre Whites claim to wonderful food!

Just came back from our week end. Was very disappointed with this hotel. The hotel itself was historical and very charming.
Money needs to be spent on the fixtures and fittings. Lump out of our sink. Shower very slow, and toilet did not flush very good. Hot water pipe exposed down wall near bed, which l touched during the night and was very hot.
The hotel very busy the first morning. Asked for poached eggs with breakfast and they were very hard. Told we should have asked for soft eggs. Order was mixed up when it did arrive.
Would not stay at this hotel again.

Stayed a year ago at this hotel and had a nice time so spoke to owner and rebooked for following year - advised to do so to secure room. Left contact details etc but on ringing this year apparently booking let go as they had a better offer. Its no good having a nice hotel if your business ethics suck.

Not sure i would recommend this place to stay as was a little disappointed with the accomadation there was good and bad points here. The public building is a wonderfull old pub a great place to sit for a drink although it is getting ruined by all the cameras and cables on show. The log fire in the bar is a lovely place. The meal we had here was very nice at the higher end of pub grub prices. The breakfast was of very good quality well cooked good local supplied produce.
The down side to us was the room we stayed in was a outside cottage conversion this seemed to lack care in the decoration and the bath room could be lovely with its size and stone floor but the bath was broken with taps rattling lose the tiling very poor a pet hate of bad stained mastic around the bath. A couple of times we went for a drink in the bar and coffee shop and there was no staff there so we took our buisness elsewhere not good. The host seemed pre-occupied elsewhere all the time and looked to have projects going on all over the building and grounds needs to concentrat on the main buissness or get more staff. The young man in the bar in the evening was a lovely barman looked after us well friendly and helpful a plus to the pub.
As you see good and bad a pub worth a vist i would not stay there again but would not tell others not to either.
