Description: At Franco’s Osteria, we keep true to the soul of Italian Osterias, whilst providing a contemporary drinking and dining experience. We provide a large selection of regional speciality wines from around Italy in a small, rustic and authentic setting. Alongside the wines, our seasonally changing set menu is designed to be shared amongst the table in a traditional, rustic, family style. We take influences from all over Italy, using local, seasonal ingredients, whilst also importing fine Italian speciality products .

“Hidden gem on Hove seafront”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

This little restaurant is situated on Hove Kingsway, opposite the Sussex Pub. It is run by the owner Franco, and a couple of staff all of whom were so attentive and friendly. You need to book as there are probably only about eight tables, but do so soon as you will be in for a treat.

We shared some mixed anti pasti starters - a selection of meats, breads, olives and cheese; mussels in cream and wine, garlic cheese pizza bread and some goats cheese and beetroot focaccia bread - all homemade, fresh and delicious.

Main courses included Lobster pasta, fresh sole, and Lasagna - again these were all cooked to perfection and so fresh and tasty. We saw other diners tucking into the most gorgeous looking pizzas too. The Chocolate Bombe pudding and the Tiramisu were to die for!

The menu is changed each week depending on what is in season, and whilst not a huge menu there was certainly enough choice for us all. Drinks and three bottles of nice wine included and it was £35 a head with a tip - very reasonable for the quality and service we enjoyed.

We will definitely be returning here very soon. Highly recommend it.

“Not # 1”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

Went here Tuesday 24th very ordinary food, we had garlic bread which the base was way too thin and swamped in butter, lasagne was OK but salad lacked imagination. Rolled pizza was 75% dough not much filling, and pasta dish was bland. Service not good and quite pricey! Its Bistro surroundings with restaurant prices. Have been to Italy many times so was disappointed as it had some good reviews.

“Forget the rest...”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

There are of course, so many Italian restaurants in Hove. Some are quite good but this is the only one that I would say is actually very good. Very good indeed.

Lovely little place, friendly service and excellent food. The shared antipasti platter is highly recommended and the pizza is how you imagine pizza should REALLY taste.

Forget the rest. But book ahead as it is quite a small place.
