Owner description: Minsmere is a great place to discover nature. The RSPB shop, cafe and visitor centre provide a perfect introduction before you explore the beautiful countryside walks. Enjoy stunning woodland, wetland and coastal scenery and close views of a wide range of wildlife, including many rare species. Families can begin their journey of discovery in the Wild Zone, or build a den in the Wildwood Adventure. The nearby Discovery Centre is perfect for school visits, birthday parties and exhibitions. Self-guided activities include a free explorer backpack to borrow, and there's a regular programme of events in school holidays. Seasonal wildlife highlights include: spring birdsong, nightingales and booming bitterns and nesting avocets; summer butterflies, flowers and nesting terns; autumn migrants, red deer rut and colour; winter ducks, evening roosts of birds and Christmas shopping. Volunteer guides are often available to help you identify Minsmere's varied wildlife.

Our recent visit to the Minsmere was made really special by the helpful staff in all departments. We were greeted at the front desk by a very enthusiastic man who gave us maps and spent time explaining the best places to go. There was some building work going on around the main building but he successfully guided us to the start of the trails.

After a lengthy walk we visited the tea room. The selection of cakes was excellent and the staff were very friendly and patient with my young daughter - and they didn't seem to mind the mess she created.

The staff in the shop also went out of their way to be of assistance. They were knowledgeable about all of the products and even a till malfunction was dealt with in good humour.

Obviously the main attraction of the Minsmere is the wildlife but the staff certainly went out of their way to ensure we had a memorable visit.

Very enjoyable, staff helpful. Partially closed at north end due to sea defence works by Environment Agency, but did not have any efffect on enjoyment just made access a little more difficult as you cannot complete the circular route and have to retrace the original route. This is due to be completed sometime in 2012

a splendid place to see and hear birds and enjoy the typical wood, heath and dune-land countryside of this area. Good value, welcoming and helpful people. Well stocked shop with binoculars to hire and useful map and information on what had been seen where and how to get there.
Liked the way most other visitors greeted you and shared what they'd seen/ were seeing in the hides.
disliked attitude and behaviour of some other visitors particularly in the café, in-appropriate and noisy behaviour - but perhaps better there than where they could disturb the birds - and obviously not down to the sanctuary staff anyway.
An enjoyable, informative and pleasant experience.

There is a huge car park here, excellent visitor centre, and the reserve itself is excellent and backs onto the beach from which you can walk up to Dunwich and back across the heath. A-m-a-z-i-n-g!!!
