Came across this inn/hotel by chance and would have no hesitation in staying again. Lovely country pub where you can get a good pint of real beer to enjoy alongside excellent food.
This is how a country pub should be with no loud "background" music and excellent hosts.
Room was spotlessly clean and comfortable and the full English breakfast had the best ingredients and was cooked fresh.
You won't go wrong staying here.

Tucked away up a small drive one could easily miss this little gem which lies in the beautiful village of Child Oakford. Add to this wonderful situation, a good range of local beers, lovely home cooked food locally sourced, a really friendly and helpful service and a stop is an absolute must. We certainly will as no excuse is needed!

Great people, great pub, great food and great wine and beer, but if you have to cause to stay in or near Child Okeford the Saxon is superb. Pretty rooms which are quiet and a very good size with well fitted bathrooms and huge comfy beds...great curtains too so all in all you may sleep rather well and miss breakfast which would be a shame.....the best poached eggs I've ever had. I'm hoping to find a reason to stay there again......

THANK YOU.

Room Tip: They are all great so just book up.

This is a lovely little country pub with friendly staff and good wholesome nosh. We booked a table for 6 on Easter Sunday night and were made to feel most welcome from the word go. My wife and I had steak and chips, and the youngsters had scampi, steak and ale pie and a burger. All were well cooked and arrived nice and quickly, we then all had a pudding which was unfortunately a bit of a disappointment in terms of quality and price. Having said that the welcome, the main course and the great atmosphere in the place did make up for the puds. I would recommend The Saxon, but have a starter instead!

March 23 2014.
Two families, one from Broadstone (Dorset) and one from Fovant (Wiltshire) were looking to meet roughly half way for a Sunday evening meal. After examining The Saxon Inn's website and consulting Trip Advisor a decision was made, which proved to be a very wise one. We received a very friendly reception on arrival and a round table for six had already been set out. We were not rushed into making a decision about our choices from the menu. The food was freshly cooked and very tasty, with generous dishes of vegetables. This was home cooking at its best and excellent value. There were three real beers available all in fine condition. The Saxon Inn is well worth a visit for those who have not been before.
Brian.

I stayed here for a night on a recent business trip and found the whole experience to be fantastic. The room looked as though it had been recently refurbished and was spotless with everything one would expect in a B&B combining the blend of modern convenience and facilities with the olde world charm of the inn.
I found the landlord and landlady, Peter and Helen to be very friendly, (as were the locals) which is particularly important when being away on my own. The food was excellent pub food too - nothing too fancy.
Dogs were welcome in the bar but not in the rooms I believe which is a shame as otherwise I may have been going back with the family as from my brief visit Dorset looked like a lovely County to spend some time. Another business trip in this part of the world and I'll be back without hesitation.

Room Tip: The pub is tucked away from the road so I don't suppose any have issues with noise.

What a delightful place to stay!

We travel a lot, but were thoroughly impressed by the Saxon Inn. A warm welcome, a very comfortable bedroom, terrific breakfasts… a great find!

Everything about the Saxon Inn seems well thought-through. For instance the four guest bedrooms are in a relatively new part of the building at the rear. Quiet, fresh, well furnished and nicely finished ours (room 2) was a delight to stay in with plenty of cupboard space and a large chest of drawers, and a great shower room.

Be sure also to visit Goldhill Organic Farm shop and art gallery just up the hill from the Saxon Inn– another treat.

But the best thing for us about our stay here was the delightful landlord and landlady – Peter and Helen Turner – and the equally wonderful chef, Andy. It’s no surprise the place seemed so busy every night we were there.
