“The perfect weekend break”
Reviewed October 28, 2013 via mobile

We felt right at home from the very start of our break as Mary was very friendly and the house was clean and beautiful.
The surroundings are amazing with fantastic views out of every window.
The breakfast was sensational with all fresh and local produce and if u weren't full up after it there must be something seriously wrong with you!
Our break couldn't have been any better. I proposed to my girlfriend whilst we were here and Mary had champagne on ice ready for when we got back and roses in the room. Service at its absolute sparkling best!
Thankyou!

I arrived from a long wet day across the moor by horse - day 165 of a 7 month, 2500 mile journey - and was given the welcome I needed, the comfort I needed and the sustaining food I needed. All with warmth and style.

This wonderfully restored very large Victorian house sits in the middle of nowhere and should be on the tick list of every towney. Being so completely remote in the middle of Dartmoor is a real experience and at Wydemeet, you can enjoy it in splendid comfort. You can't get this experience from a hotel. Sleep with your window and curtains open and listen to total nothingness. The house is full of character but with all the contemporary comforts, and a log fire thrown in if you like. After staying here, you feel you have really been somewhere and done something unique. The host Mary is a fascinating character with an infectious smile who welcomes you with real enthusiasm. She actively encourages you to make the very most of the house and its lovely living areas. Nothing much matters to her except your enjoyment and breakfast is an occasion at a time to suit you. Do something different and stay there!

Room Tip: They are all good.

What a fantastic weekend My Husband and I just had staying here at Wydemeet Bed and Breakfast. The Host, Mary, could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. We asked for a late check in on Friday night and a late check out on Sunday and each request was met with a 'No Problem' attitude.....so refreshing! The house is lovely and surrounded by countryside which makes your stay peaceful and very relaxing. Breakfast was yummy with more food than should be humanly possible for one person to eat, but I managed it! The first day we fly fished on the West Dart and were able to get a fishing licence at the pub just at the end of the road. The second day we took a hike/walk right from the house over the moors and passed and old tin mine and a small reservoir. Each day finishing with a hot tub and glass of wine! I had the best nights sleep I have had away from home in years. Our bed was comfortable, large and plenty of duvets, blankets, pillows and quilts should we have required them. The room had some interesting artefacts and we both read a book each from the bookcase. Our room was en-suite with a big bath and power shower combination. We were allowed the use of a dining room (as the first night we brought a already prepared meal) and the cosy lounge to relax in.

You can book a massage in advance. My husband had a deep tissue back, neck and shoulder massage and said it was great.

Thank You Mary for making our weekend so special. We shall be back very soon!

Lovely weekend at Wydemeet to start our Devon break. Long chat with Mary over tea and cake was a great beginning. Very comfy bed, fab breakfasts, peace and quiet. Amazing star gazing, wonderful walks. Great if you like remote and no traffic noise.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Hexworthy room which was lovely, spacious, gorgeous bed and great views!

Booked as a last minute break our stay here couldn't have been better. Mary, the owner, was so welcoming, friendly and helpful with excellent local knowledge to help make the most of our stay. Her lovely house was full of traditional character and the 'open house' policy meant it felt like a real home from home, perfect for relaxing after a long day hiking on the moors (the hot tub in the garden was pretty good for this as well!) Breakfast was first rate and very comprehensive, all expertly prepared and served with Mary's inimitably charm. This delightful home is set in a remote location, no problems with traffic noise here, perfect for exploring the moors straight from the house. It really is difficult to find any fault and we would certainly come back again.
