We were 7 people with an Overseas Adventure Travel group, so our guide translated as necessary. The hotel was lovely, and had a Turkish atmosphere, with typical decor - no cookie-cutter rooms. Air conditioning was good, and necessary on days that were over 90 degrees! Beds were comfortable, with pillows of different softness available. Service was friendly and helpful, with a good breakfast buffet, and an appetizing dinner. There were some cave rooms that were pretty exotic, used for meetings and gatherings, and some local crafts and jewelry on sale at reasonable prices. The owner is a pigeon aficionado, and we saw some exotic birds. Don't be fooled by the picture of the pool - we were told it was only for men!

EXCELLENT POSITION on the main road junction in front of Abraham's Carp Pool and surrounding park. Like many hotels in this part of the world its standard doesn't quite meet its pretentions. Although the El Ruha sells itself as 4 star, its tired appearance takes the gloss off and it doesn't quite make it. Nevertheless, as long as you dine out in town, you'll be fine for a couple of nights. Of the countless local TV stations available we recommend TRT, a Turkish English language station which models itself on BBC WORLD. At the far end of the Carp Pool Gardens you will find the animated bazzar - not to be missed. Wander around until you reach the centre of the maze - an attractive square full of tea tables where you can enjoy a refreshing glass of Airan. Before leaving make sure to take a tour around the second floor and pick up a pair of trousers at a bargain !!!

I stayed in Room 302 for one night after having moved from the Manici Hotel. The hotel is in a very good location - easy walking distance to restaurants and points of interest. The bedroom was large and well-appointed, with a comfortable king size bed. The bathroom was a nice size with a tub/shower combination. However, the tub had very high sides and could be slippery. There were a few other negatives - the air conditioning was very week. The hotel sent a maintenance person to look at it, but the room never got adequately cool considering that mid-day heat was in the upper 80's (F). The room also wasn't dark enough at night for my liking, with yellow street light seeping into the room and the pillows were far too large. That said, the El Ruha is probably one of the better hotels in the main tourist area. The hotel has a rather nice rooftop area where you can get great views of the city.
