Just back from a long weekend @ Amsterdam. We stayed at Lucky Lake Hostel where I slept three years ago already. I had a blast staying there so I wanted my girlfriend to discover this alternative place. We arrived from Belgium quite late, around 11pm but Pilar from the reception gave us a warm welcome with waffles. I booked a cabin on hostelworld. Cabin was fine, clean with a good bed, table, chair and lights. Bathrooms are clean and correct. Staff is friendly.
They do have a shuttle system from 8am to 1:30am which is quite handy to get to Holendrecht station from the Hostel. Otherwise, the Dutch Cycling Path system is so great that you can get to the CityCentre by following a lovely way through the countryside. (Don't follow the way via Abcoude but take the path going along the Motorway and along the Amstel river.)
The homemade lasagna are a delicious option if you are too lazy to cook. The only "but" from this review is the location from our cabin. We had "cabin 1" located between Reception, Entrance/Exit from the hostel , kitchen and the shuttle car park. I have to say the result was quite noisy. I asked after our first night to change of room but apparently the hostel was fully booked. But as "Quiet Backpackers" who like to sleep after a good day cycling and sightseeing, I was expecting more respect from the other guests and more discipline from the hostel staff but anyway...
Stay was really good and if we come back to Amsterdam, we will definitely stay here...but not in "Cabin 1"!!

Lucky Lake is out of town and sure the shuttle is a bit of a hassle, but Lucky Lake is quiet, clean, friendly and has a great atmosphere. There is a big BBQ area, lots of places to hang out, bikes to hire, the lake to walk around so you won't get bored.

The accommodation at Lucky Lake is just as described in previous reviews; clean , comfortable and quirky. What makes the place extra special is the location and the amazing staff, who are professional and hard working, while creating a relaxed atmosphere and making sure their guests have everything they need.

City breaks are fun but having the added opportunity to chill out in the countryside, explore a village by bike and stroll by a lake (plus having a good peek into dutch people's back gardens) made the whole trip extra special.

I'd recommend Lucky Lake to older travelers who might think they wont enjoy a hostel experience. If you can manage without an en suite bathroom, everything else is better than a hotel. We weren't the only middle aged visitors (although we were heavily outnumbered by young people from all over the world). There is a chilled out, festival vibe at Lucky Lake, it never got loud at night, and the other guests and staff (who live and socialise with visitors when not working) were welcoming and friendly.

Particular thanks to the lovely staff for the bottle of wine and birthday postcard they gave my partner on his 50th birthday.

Room Tip: We stayed in a cabin, which was really comfy. I suspect they get cold at night when it isn't hig...

This place is really original, its comfy, the staff is really nice, the campers smell like old grandma room but that is the charm of it, even the ducks are nice. I really had a good time in here, wish i stayed more than in the crappy hotel i stayed in Amsterdam.

The breakfast DIY ingredients were ok, just the going back and forth Amsterdam can be a little tiresome, so forget a crazy night out without a car or someone to give you a ride.

It can get very cold so close your windows at nite, and wear some comfy clothes and i bet you will sleep very well.

colourful caravans, clean rooms and restrooms, comfy environment, playful facilities and nice breakfast and kitchen (free of charge!). but most important of all, great atmosphere with super friendly ppl. despite the location, its not inconvenient to reach central Amsterdam. weak wifi in caravan tho. if you prefer outdoor activities and alternative travelling experience in amsterdam, luckylake could be a good choice.

Room Tip: i booked a twin bed private caravan so i have no idea on dorm...

Lucky Lake is a great location for enjoying Amsterdam while still being far enough away from it all to recover after each day/night's excesses. There's a very friendly, communal feel - but try to book a cabin or caravan away from the smoking lounge, it can get a bit noisy at night if you're wanting to sleep!

Room Tip: Book a cabin or caravan away from the smoking lounge if don't want to be disturbed

Best hostel I've ever stayed in!!! Perfect down to the last detail! Cozy atmosphere, nice staff, really clean and new facilities, everything you'd expect! Even the distance is easily overcome by transfer and direct metro to the city's center! I'll definitively stay there again!
