You don't have to go far away to have such an excellent hotel and their restaurant with one Michelin star is really exquisive.
Very good price/quality.
The nearby village Ootmarssum is very nice with it's art galleries.
We have been in this hotel 5 years ago and we certainly are going back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite. They are very large and comfortable

Coming from bruxelles it is not so near. But what a nice surroundings and what a nice trip
to get there. The river the IJssel is beautiful and on your way you could discover the
museumcastle Het Loo in Apeldoorn and the charming city of Deventer.
We visited the hotel for the second time and had once again a comfortable stay: "oldfashioned" for service and friendliness. The one star Michelin restaurant is more then delicious. Try the white chocolate bonbons with a surprising inside. Six courses but not heavy at all and a good advice for wines from the Tunesian sommelier. Excellent. The Wiemsel vaut le detour!
.

Room Tip: We had a good room on the backside with a view on the nice, new terrace and all the green. You can...

If you need some time out of the hassle of city life, this might just be the place for you! An excellent hotel with wonderful staff amidst beautiful green surroundings: the perfect place to relax. And with the one Michelin star restaurant de Wanne at your disposal, there's no need to walk a single step to have an amazing meal! We enjoyed every single one of our six courses and, again, the staff were wonderful: knowledgeable and quite funny too. Good times!

Stayed in the hotel with a family of 5, of which 3 small children. We took one of the large suites, which allowed for ample space for all the children. The hotel was friendly enough to put the beds for the children already in place, with each bed tailored to the expected size of them. Nice detail was that for the two eldest bath robes and slippers were ready. Obviously the children loved it!

Dinner was served in two stages. In the beginning of the evening for the children, and later for the adults. This leads to be away on a romantic occassion, whilst at the same time having the children nearby. A complimentary babyphone service was provided (reception listening in to the room to check if something goes wrong). The food was excellent, and well proportioned.

The swimming pool was good and the right temperature.

Overall a excellent hotel which gives some old fashioned attention to detail.

Room Tip: If travelling with small children, take a suite. It is worth the money.

Hotel De Wiemsel is an upper class place which means it is not at all "a budget hotel". It is located near Ootmarsum in an area of great natural value. The city is an arts center with art galleries and exhibitions.
The hotel itself is not new but offers a great classical comfort : a beauty farm (at extra cost), a one Michelin star restaurant, inside and outside pools, a tennis hardcourt, accomodation for "bring your own horse" and even for your bicycle or Posche.
Our room was made up of a kitchenette (which nobody cares to use), a lounge with TV, a spacious bedroom and a ballroom-sized bathroom. As all rooms are on the ground level everybody has a private patio, wild rabbit included.
The restaurant "De Wanne" has a more modern glazed part and a conventional dining room and is not a "fast food" place and one has ample time to enjoy the dishes and a pleasant conversation. The general public belongs clearly to the educated and discrete upper class appreciating the expertise of the maître d'hotel and the superb sommelier.
It is one of the rare places where I could say during our second stay that the quality had not degraded since 2008.
The only minus is the absence of WIFI which, given the price, should be included in the package.

Room Tip: Our reservation was efficiently dealt with via email. All rooms seem to be quiet and easy.

Several times we come here and now with our company. As always the service was great and the food excellent. The bar with the Italian barman is nice for a drink before and after dinner. We had good weather to stay outside at the pool. Ootmarsum is a nice place at walking distance.

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2010

We stayed at this hotel in July this year for the beginning of our honeymoon.

The hotel and restaurant was selected by us to celebrate our first two days of marriage.
I would like to say that overall our stay was pleasant, and the food was very good.

Unfortunately, there were a few instances where the level of service let the restaurant and the hotel down completely. Most importantly, we were really let down by this.
The whole idea of us staying at this hotel was for us to begin our honeymoon in luxury, and be completely pampered.

Firstly, on the morning after our first night, we requested that our room was tidied, but to leave the towels, as they had hardly been used.
On our return to the bedroom, no cleaning had been done whatsoever.
Having discovered this we enquired at reception to see if our room could be cleaned.
We were told that was not possible, since the cleaners had all left.

This surprised us considering the standards this hotel holds , and for the service that we paid for.
It is our experience that hotels of this standard would normally have met our request.

We were disappointed at this.

Our second complaint is in respect to the service we received on the Sunday night for our 10 course banquet, which was specifically made to celebrate our wedding.
The service was not of the standard expected of a Michelin star restaurant, and staff was more interested in the football final than serving their guests.

We were made to feel uncomfortable, due to confusion over wines, we were practically told off for pouring a second glass of wine, this was because we were waiting, and decided to help ourselves.

This is a disgrace for any restaurant, let alone a Michelin star one.
My husband had to get up, to walk to the bottle cooler, to get us some water.

No staff were around at all for the majority of our meal.

Through out the whole evening we felt the staff was inside watching the television, instead of attending to their customers.

The sommelier came briefly to our table, and we really had no idea as to why he bothered, since he did not bring anything more on the wines then the waiter had already informed us on.
The sommelier was nowhere to be seen the whole evening after this brief encounter. Apart from when we left the restaurant, and he was stood at the bar.

We spent a lot of Euro's for this meal for it to be perfect, and expected nothing less. Unfortunately the service was abysmal.
What I found really horrible was the fact that I specifically asked whether the foie gras was forced fed, and I was almost patronised.

He could assure me that it came from a retailers, and was not forced fed.

On top if this I was told by the waiter that they hardly use this technique any more, and I told him that this technique is up to this day still the most common one…(really it is almost the only way) I know this for a fact.

But when he was so convinced about the foie gras from the retailers not being a forced fed one, I believed him, and ate it.

Presuming the retailors must sell a faux gras (free ranged, none forced fed goose liver, mixed with their fat, and I don't mean the vegetarian version which also exists), as well as foie gras.
I should have been less naive, and trusted my own instinct.
Because I have now eaten a product I really did not want to eat.

And this in a Michelin star restaurant!!

It is a dreadful shame that the Chef’s and kitchen staff, are let down so much by the dining service.
We do want to point out that the food itself was excellent and superbly produced by the kitchen. Our gratitude and thanks should be passed to them as they did an excellent job.

The night staff at reception was fantastic, and the ladies who helped with our reservation were really great. Thanks to their nice , and personal approach, we decided to stay at the Wiemsel, and not at a hotel in Lattrop in the first place.

During our honeymoon we also stayed at a hotel in Boulogne Sur Mer, that also had a Michelin star restaurant. Here the sommelier was outstanding, and the table service was brilliant.

This is what we were hoping for on our first two days of marriage at hotel De Wiemsel.

We will always remember the Wiemsel as nice, but not excellent, which it should have been for the 421 Euros for the meal and the 1051 Euros we paid for the hotel!!!

We also felt that plastic flowers on the dining table looked rather cheap, when real flowers do make that difference or, nothing at all.

When I wrote a similar letter to the manager, I got a very unsatifying reply, and this has led me to warn other guests for being aware of this hotel.

We were at least expecting a better response from them, but even that they did not manage.

What a shame for such an expensive place.
We will never return here.
