We stayed here from 8 - 10 July 2012 and unfortunately our room came with bedbugs... After two days we could not wait to go home and that's really not the feeling you want to get from a hotel. Right after our stay I informed the hotel owner and he told me that they were going to look into it and they would get back to me. Unfortunately this has never happened, and that does not make the hotel look good. When you plan to stay here, make sure you don't stay in room 5... My brother and his girlfriend stayed in room 4, and they enjoyed their room. It really could have been a great place for us to come back to - except for the bedbugs in room 5 the Smulpot is a lovely hotel with a great restaurant, great service and a great location - but after this experience, we will never be back.

Hotel restaurant De Smulpot at Den Burg in Texel Netherlands is a very special place to stay. The rooms are very modern and well decorated. Beds are special and the restaurant offers all kinds of plates in a nice and warm environment. Thumbs up for the staff of this hotel restaurant.

Room Tip: This is an excellent hotel when you stay at this beautiful island of Texel. Moreover the food is excellent and service is great.

This is a delightful little establishment. The rooms are comfortable and the bar/restaurant area has great character. Most importantly, the staff are very welcoming and friendly.

Parking is a little difficult, but not a complete show-stopper.

Room Tip: Room no. 5 is spacious and well decorated. The air conditioning worked well on a hot night.

I would not recommend this hotel. The rooms are described as 'luxury rooms', but the decor and equipment is very dated and grubby. When we closed the curtains we were suddenly joined by 7 huge moths. It was a very warm night, but as our room (number 1) was at the front of the hotel it was difficult to ignore the church bells (every 30 minutes), and we had to close the window to be able to sleep.
During our stay there was no separate entrance for hotel guests. This meant that when we came back from a day out we had to maneuver awkwardly between restaurant guests with our bags to get to the back of the restaurant where the door towards the rooms was situated.

Breakfast was ok, but not special. It was all laid out on the table. One morning there was no meat or cheese. Just jam, sprinkles, peanut butter etc.

We planned to hire some bikes, but there was nowhere to park them securely. (car park was a 10 minute walk away, but we were aware of this)

The beds were ok and we had access to wireless internet

All would have been acceptable if the price would have been accordingly. We paid 210 euro for 2 nights
