“Nice beach”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Lovely place to spend a few hours. There is a cafe there, and you can pay to visit the lighthouse, we decided to just sit on the beach and try to not get blown away. The beach is great for kids and kite flyers. I would recommend a wind break

“Nice view over the north of Texel”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

We enjoyed the view of the wide beach and other islands. I expected it to be higher (it's around 40 meters) and have a better view but we could still see England (just barely on a nice day), and 2 other of the neighboring wadden islands. The kids enjoyed seeing the bullet holes which are on the old outside of the lighthouse, which was shot at during the 2nd world war, and is now encased by the new lighthouse which was built around it. On one of the floors you can walk between the walls of the old & new lighthouse and see these bullet holes.

The lighthouse has not been manned for 10 yrs or so but the light is powered by solar panels and goes on automatically w/ a light sensor when it gets dark, until the next morning. It originally was put in place in the 1800's to prevent shipwrecks, w/ navigation equipment these days such a lighthouse is not as crucial but nice that it's been well preserved and is open to the public.

Fee is almost 4 euros for adults, seems a lot but I have no issue w/ paying to keep this nice lighthouse in good repair!

“nothing special, but nice”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

If you're in the neighboorhoud of this lighthouse ... it's a nice place to interrupt your bikingtour.
Nothing special ... steps ... steps ... steps.
If you are billing your tickets ask if you have to show your tickets somewhere.
The ticketseller makes always the same joke.

Nice view on 'de wadden' and the island.

“outstanding lighthouse”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

One of the reasons we went to Texel was to see this nice lighthouse located on the northern tip of the island. The light house is really outstanding, especially contrasting itself around a few houses and the blue sky. Going there is quite easy via public bus, but the interval between the buses is an hour, and remember to check the last bus, as if you miss it, then it would be quite a long way from the city centre! From the bus stop to the lighthouse is also quite near, just about 10 minutes walk.
