“Large, Functional and Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

For the second year running I attended a large conference at this seaside hotel. The hotel is well suited for large groups and the staff made a number of special arrangements to ensure the conference run smoothly. Food was served in a buffet restaurant with reasonably good selection, but after a couple of days there are no new surprises. The hotel does not have much of character, but its location is good, right in this little pretty seaside town with lots of places to eat and drink. And in the hotel there is a bowing alley and sauna/swimming pool. Be aware that after a certain hour all users of the sauna and pool must come without clothing! It is both an advantage and a disadvantage that the hotel is so far from the nearest airport, nearly an hour from Amsterdam. But I would not hesitate coming back.

I stayed in Hotel Zuiderduin in June 2014for a couple of days while attending a conference. The hotel offered basic minimum rooms for a reasonable rate. Rooms were plain, cluttered with odd furniture items, with little floor space. There was neither a fan nor an AC in the room though a radiation heater was provided. My room was on fifth floor that was the top-most floor, and even while outside temperature was a comfortable 18C, inside in day time was rather hot and humid with no recourse to even a fan. TV sets were the old cathode-ray tube type with small screen that appeared ancient in this day and age. There was no facility of a coffee maker in the room and no drinking water or even glasses were provided. There was no fridge in the room nor were there any complementary welcome fruits or drinks. Beds were too soft and sleep quality was poor for me. Bathroom had separate shower and bath-tub but there were few complementary toiletries. Hygiene standard was however satisfactory.
There was no room service for meals and beverages. Breakfast buffet was humdrum, with no table service. Items were essentially European (buns, cheeses, cold meat slices and juices etc) though few poorly made hot items like scrambled eggs sausage and bacon were also available. House-keeping staff and the hotel staff in general appeared introvert in general without a welcoming smile. For beach lovers, good thing is that the hotel is 5 min walk to lovely sea beach (best white sand beach in Netherland as I read somewhere). Hotel had good sports facilities (swimming pool, gym, bowling, squash and videogames etc). Free in-room WiFi was available but my computer insisted that the hotel WiFi lacked security certificate and advised me not to connect. Overall, the experience of staying at Hotel Zuiderduin was not too pleasant and in all earnest, I cannot recommend it unless you are looking for a no-frill roof over the head in Egmond Aan Zee that is more like a hostel room than a hotel room.

This large hotel caters primarily both for conferences and seaside holidays. The hotel looks like it was built in the 1980s and is starting to appear a bit dated; it is clean and comfortable, but not particularly characterful. Egmond aan Zee is a pleasant little seaside town (and much neater/cleaner than most equivalent British seaside towns); the nearest railway station is in Castricum (with a bus service from Castricum station which stops right outside the hotel). Good for the conference I was attending, but the holiday market is probably largely confined to Dutch holidaymakers who don't wish to travel too far.

This large hotel contains everything that you could need for a medium size meeting. The food served in the restaurant for breakfast and lunch is good and there is plenty to choose from. The rooms are large and supplied with both shower and bathtub. There also many possibilities for recreation, including work-out and bowling. The location is also very good, with a few minutes walk to the sea.

Nice hotel,100m from the sea. Rooms are comfortable and big. A number of activities is possible: swimming in the pool, sauna, beauty treatments, squash etc.
Breakfast was rather of medium quality and variaty. The vast majority of guests are families or over 70 years-old.

The Zuiderduin is a typical congress hotel. Rooms are average and could use a facelift. All meals are served in the massive dining hall, the selection is decent, but nothing special.
On the positive side the beach is just a short walk away and there are some nice restaurants nearby. Also, there is a squash court in the fitness area, which was a positive surprise.

This is a purely congress hotel with no friendliness designed for large meeting groups.

The reception has no mercy for even a 20 min. later checkout tolrence even if you are ill, as it was in my case. They have very strict military style approach to tourism.

The food quality in the restaurant is mediocre.

There is no bottled water in the rooms and if you order it from the room service it will cost you as high as 20 Euros as happened to us.

The rooms are quite far from the meeting rooms and if you have health problems in your legs it can be rather difficult to commute between rooms and meeting rooms.

But the cleanliness level is quite good.

Rooms are very far away from
