“Charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

Spent 2 nights here with my 11 year old son and our two small dogs so enjoyed two excellent breakfasts! But also great hospitality, good value. The hotel has a lovely, large garden and is situated close to beach and forrest. The center of Bergen is only a short walk away. Though we spent most of our time at the beach, we also recommend a trip to Alkmaar which is nearby.

Room Tip: Rooms are probably all good (we only saw one), basic but good. Great bed, clean, small but efficient...

My wife and I spent our first night in the Netherlands at the Hotel Boschlust. We took our time to search for something with local charm and good value. Our expectations were easily met and perhaps exceeded.

The owner Wilma works hard to ensure all one's needs are met. The rooms are clean, cozy and the beds very comfortable.

The Bergen city center is a short walk from the hotel and offers a surprsing variety of dining options.

I'd highly recommend the hotel and surrounding area.

Great little hotel/restaurant in Bergen, North Holland. The rooms are small and initially disappointing, but perfectly adequate....although 2'6" wide beds were on the tight size. The rest of the experience makes up for it. The owners are charming, the garden is wonderful and the breakfast was fantastic (best bacon and scrambled eggs I've had in The Netherlands.

We sat in the garden in the evening with a beer enjoying the peace and quiet. Dinner in the restaurant looked a bargain at €9 but was baked salmon and some of our party didn't like fish - so we ate in town...but from the standard of breakfast, I'm sure it would have been very good.

Great experience, would definitely stay here again and thoroughly recommend it for an overnight stay in this area.

The minute you arrive you feel being a valued guest. Very warm welcome! At the Boschlust it's all about friendliness. Everyone is smiling at you.
The sheets are crips and white. The breakfast is lovely incl. fresh (!!) orange juice, fresh seasonl fruit, delicious scrambled eggs and a big variety of breads made my day.
In addition I liked the 'honesty bar' in the lounge. A fridge offering everything you need in the middle of the night.
The Boschlust is located in Bergen - within walking distance to the city centre with all the restaurants and cafes. To the beach it's only a short drive.
We enjoyed our stay very much. I'll definitely go back!

Room Tip: The rooms are quite small, but they're equiped with everything you need! They also have a nice g...

When you get to the Boschlust quite late, like us, rooms are not very attractive. They are quite small, quite dark as well. Don't panick! Wait until the morning, until that wonderful Wilma effect, that fantastic breakfast (all organic!), fantastic garden, quiet surroundings (unlike in the city centre! - We thought Bergen was noisier than Amsterdam by the way!) and if Wilma decides to cook in the evening, be there! It was absolutely fantastic. We had two bedrooms - one for the kids opposite ours - it was great and we would go back anytime!

My husband and I have been coming to the Boschlust for years and we loved it from the moment we walked through the front door.
Wilma, the owner of Boschlust is always helpful and welcoming in a very natural way.
It is quiet because of the location and yet a short walk to Bergen which is a charming and sophisticated little town overflowing with restaurants, cafes and shops.
We never come by car because all the busses are nearby.

The Boschlust is a lovely place to stay in Bergen, not Bergen aan Zee, which is a few miles down the road. The Boschlust is an old hotel just over 100 years old and was taken over by the Germans in the war and was used as a school. Wilma is a wonderful host and is very friendly and accommodating. We go here every year as we love the atmosphere of Bergen. It has its own little outdoor Deer Park that is free to see. It has a set of woods that contains a V1 launch pad. And is a short bus ride from Alkmaar, here they have the train station where you can get to Amsterdam in approx 30-45 mins. Bergen has lots to offer, good shops, bars and places to eat. It has a pancake house just on the outskirts of the village just before the sand dunes that take you Bergen ann Zee and Egmond.

Just on the out skirts of Amsterdam is a pancake house in a pretty little village called Broek in Waterland. I recommend stopping there it is beautiful. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/491841
