Though I do not consider myself a great enthusiast of paintings nor do I claim to be knowledgeable on the subject, I have no hesitation in recommending those with a liking for art to go out of their way if need be to visit. The collection is superb and the layout very well thought out.
The only problem is the location of the Museum, had I not gone on a conducted tour, I would have missed it given I was not driving and I would never had hired a taxi to go there.

Thank manlito

As others have noted on TA, this may be the best art museum you've never heard of. Fantastic collection of late 19th and 20th century art, including the second largest collection of van Goghs in the world. Entrance fees include an extensive sculpture garden and access to the national park (with its free white bikes). Well worth the effort required to get to its off-the-beaten-tourist- path (if you don't have your own transportation, best route is probably train to Arnhem, bus 105 to Otterloo, bus 106 to the museum). Good cafe, serving fresh, local breads, soups, and cheeses.

We were staying in Arnhem and heard about the Kroller-Muller Museum and Art Gallery set in De Hoge Veluwe (National park). The trouble was- how to get there using public transport? Asking around in local restaurants we received two lots of advice. We decided and can recommend a short train journey to Ede-Wageningen, there catch the 108 bus (I seem to remember) to Otterlo. Here the driver told us where to get off and a small bus took you right up to the door. A very easy journey. There is also a frequent bus service from Arnhem, the 105, but this sometimes may require a change - check beforehand. The train-bus route is simple and would work from Amsterdam too.
I've gone on about directions because the Museum is worth visiting if you like Van Gogh's work. We were lucky as our visit coincided with the 'Vincent is back' exhibition. The gallery, not surprisingly, receives endless requests to lend some of its 80+ paintings and 180 drawings which means some good art may be out on loan - but not this time. In addition to his work there are plenty of Seurats and other Impressionists, plus Mondriaans and Picassos on display. It is one of the finest private collections I've seen. In addition the gallery is set in beautiful wooded parkland which has a sculpture park (Henry Moore and Hepworth to name but two). For those who are feeling energetic, there are thousands of free bikes everywhere which you can pick up and leave at the gate on departure. Or you can take the bus.
One bonus, after visiting the Rijksmuseum the previous day this place was so quiet and peaceful, one did not have to battle with crowds to catch a glimpse of a famous painting. As a postscript the museum is very wheelchair friendly.

It's tough to get here except by car. But if you want to see an amazing collection of art, primarily 19th and 20th century, including van Gogh and Impressionists, plus a wonderful outdoor sculpture garden, this so totally worth the effort. I wish we had planned more time here. Everything about the place is exquisite. This is an art-lover's dream.

This exhibition is a must to see, almost all of the paintings of Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890) are on show painted during his short life. He was one of the most important painters of the 19th century, and actually many of his paintings were collected by the Museum Kröller Möller in Arnhem. Nevertheless, or because of it, the museum took the initiative to bring on show practically all of his painting he ever has made. Although he received little recognition, and sold almost none of his paintings during his lifetime, he eventually committed suicide out of desperation.Too late however he was recognized as the most influential painter of his age due to his expressive use of colors and his personal view of reality.
This exhibition exists out of two parts, the 2nd started in April last and will run till october next. So hurry up to take advantage of this unique opportunity available once in your lifetime, to view the most interesting and developed van Gogh paintings. Very instructively displayed.
