“Good hotel close to the Hoge Veluwe”
Reviewed January 29, 2012

We only spent 1 night in the Golden Tulip but we were very pleased with the accommodation, service and staff. We stayed in a ground floor room - spacious and well cared for. The hotel grounds are peaceful and well maintained. We had our dinner in the hotel restaurant - the staff was friendly and we had a delicious meal - would recommend it. We also tried out the indoor swimming pool - simple but clean and convenient. The hotel is located near to the Hoge Veluwe park (10 minute drive).

The beautiful big lawn and a lot of trees around the buildings are qualifying this hotel. Holland is a densely populated country and a lot of space is rare. The area is marvellous and you can get your rest: it is quiet in your room. The rooms are clean and well-furnished.
When you haven´t a car, it is difficult to reach the hotel. It is an out-of-the-way hotel.
Breakfast is extensive and OK.
Lovely detail: big posters of famous football players in the corridors.

The outward appearance of this property may not be as impressive as lots of 5star properties we encounter in Asia nevertheless once we got settled in, it proved to be a cosy, wonderful location for a weekend chill out, away from hustle bustle of the city. Barely 1 hour drive away from Schiphol airport, it's location is brilliantly secluded with wonderful walks in the woods. Our cottage is simple but wonderfully warm and cozy. Do not expect luxury - comfort is more of a keyword here. Shower and bath tub could use some upgrading but overall for a short stay of 4 days 3 nights, it serves it's purpose.

We spent our days with long, leisure walk in the woods and just chilling out in front of the fireplace. Bicycles are available for rental should weather permits.Totally relaxing and as there were not many guests around, the place felt nicely calm. Staffs are always friendly and we felt cared for without being intruded upon. The bar is a nice area to cuddle and enjoy a cup of coffee in front of the fireplace.

The other truly noteable item to mention on this property is it's kitchen. For 3 nights in a row, we were astounded with dishes upon dishes of michelin worth cuisine. The chef deserves an applaud for skillfully turned out dishes - we definitely looked forward to dinner times. Breakfast is basic however quality definitely supercedes quantity in this area. Overall, this place has definitely earned it's place in our list as one of the places we would visit again for a weekend in Netherlands.

Room Tip: Ask for the cottages which are scattered around in the woods for more privacy.

The hotel is very nice set in a nice area with a very nice breakfast and good diner. So far so good...
However the booking process is terrible. I never received a booking confirmation from their online system which made me ring around to check. The service was terrible so I decided to ring the hotel direct. Luckily they were able to make a new reservation and I thought that was it. I paid my bill at the hotel and explained what happened and the staff assured me that the issue was resolved. But when I got home I noticed that the money from the reservation had been taken out of my account as well which means I paid the hotel twice which makes it very very expensive night.
And it's not only that - now I also have to spend time to ring around to the reservation office and my bank to get everything sorted.
All in all a very disappointing experience with a big hotel chain.

On the plus-side, the surroundings are beautiful and the conference rooms are pretty good. Ample free parking. However, else it felt at times like a has-been hotel.
The hotel is difficult to reach by public transport. The food is only so-so (not bad but not amazing either). One of the two bowling alleys was broken, seemed bugged by a computer virus and having a mind of its own. Maintenance could be improved - first time I stayed there the bathroom was mouldy, this time the bathroom smelled like a bad Mexican hotel with sewer smell. Wifi was unstable but at least free. And I was glad I was there in good weather as the walk from your room to the breakfast room through the outdoors can be a bit of a hike.

Almost everything is average on this hotel.
Food is not that good. Very friendly personnel. Location of the rooms (in separate buildings next to the main building) is nice. Quiet. Connection to the WIFI is poor.

A bit run down, that's the phrase that comes to mind first.
Stayed for a night and a day and a half of businessmeeting in this hotel.

The first surprise was the location of the rooms. Take your luggage with you on wheels, since the walk to the "appartmentbuildings" takes you 5 minutes easily.
My room was on the first floor of one of these buildings, which meant dragging the suitcase up (and down) a very narrow staircase. The room itself was fairly basic, but quite old. Bed was fine.
A very special feature was found in the bathroom, where the windows were without curtains. So although the glass wasn't transparant, one couldn't help but wonder how many innocent passengers outside would witness what was going on inside.
The rooms are quite noisy too. Both showers and coughing neighbours were clearly audible, as well as neighbours coming "home" . Now, if you're into office gossip this might be an extra asset, otherwise one could do without.

Very friendly and helpfull staff, although the business facilties are not great.

Didn't try the swimmingpool.
