My family spent four nights in one of the larger ´garden rooms´ located in a 2-storey structure behind the main building. It's a little cramped for four (queen-size in main area, 2 singles in a separate bedroom), but since the island is great for exploring we spent little time indoors. Great location: the public bus stops in front of the hotel, village services (food, shopping, bike rental) and public swimming pool (guests swim for free) are no more than a five minute walk, the closest beach access is a seven minute bike ride.
Beds are fine. Outdated tv with the typical selection of cable channels, water cooker for coffee/tea but no fridge or other frills. Daily cleaning was good, no problems with towel changes. The building could use some maintenance - inside and outside. Everything works as it should, but is outdated. Staff is friendly, although sometimes a little stoic- a typical Frisian characteristic you have to love.
Continental breakfast in the main building was adequate. Coffee comes from a machine (not the same stuff served in the main restaurant and terrace), no warm dishes other than boiled eggs, only two kinds of cereal, but a decent selection of breads and spreads. Prices for drinks and snacks on the terrace are OK, but the room price is steep, considering the limited size and furnishings. Being a nature reserve island with limited room for accomodations, room prices will obviously be higher than on the mainland. But better deals are to be had if you look hard enough.
