“The Best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2014

My family loved the Art Furrer hotel. The rooms were modern and comfortable, the amenities outstanding, and the staff treated us the way I imagine royalty would be treated! They gave me the feeling they felt as if they couldn't do enough for us, and when a family member would have a special request, the answer was pretty much invariably that they would be truly pleased to help out. We all enjoyed it so much that we hated to leave.

We were in the "old" part of the hotel so not the new "Royal" part. The room are convenient but a bit small shower lacking a bath. Just one minus point is the choice of pillows. Very small and soft.
The room looks a bit dated but convenient with all one needs.
Service is absolutely great. When we arrived with the snow mobile and checked in luggage and ski's were already delivered at ski storage and room.
Good breakfast buffet and the half board was excellent with a superior service. Restaurant and wellness needs a small walk outside from our part of the building.
Great location and easy access to the slopes. A real great ski experience in the car free village

This review is of the “Art Furrer Resort Hotel”. This is the group of four relatively old buildings and should not be confused with the very new “Royal” which is just opposite (and houses the reception) nor the Alpenrose nor any other of the hotels that bear Art’s name!
The four buildings are built together but do not interconnect. Therefore if you want to access a service housed in a different building from the one in which you are staying you need to dress for the outside.
For example: The large well heated indoor swimming pool is housed in the Valaisia building whereas we stayed in the Rhodania building and therefore had to put on boots and coats in order to go swimming.
Half board evening meals are provided in the Tenne which is on five levels. Unfortunately four of these are below ground level and the building is inadequately heated. I personally hate overheated restaurants but this takes the opposite to extreme. Having to sit on your coat in order to keep warm spoilt what would have otherwise have been excellent meals as the service was impeccable.
The rooms themselves were well heated and spacious and had lots of wardrobe space and comfortable beds. Unfortunately there is little sound proofing especially concerning the plumbing. The sound of running water, baths, showers or toilet flushing is a constant background sound.
Fortunately everyone seems to go to sleep early – however they are also early rises so don’t expect a lie-in! Not that you would want to as the hotel is perfectly situated for the slopes.
The hotel transferred our luggage between the hotel and the cable car that links Riederalp to Morel (and the rest of the world) at no extra cost.

Room Tip: Stay in the Valaisia building if you want to use the heated indoor swimming pool in Winter,

Great: The rooms at the Royal are spacious and practical. They are stylishly designed in a modern-rustic taste and everything is finished in best quality. The food in the restaurant and the breakfasts were excellent. The location of the hotel is great: ski-in and ski-out, wonderful panoramic views and absolutely quiet. I found the service very friendly and forthcoming.

Not so great: The hotel has neither a lobby nor a bar. Consequently one is restricted to the restaurant or the room. The hotel restaurant was closed on sundays and dinner was served in one of the other restaurants of the hotel group: There the food was of poor quality and taste. Sauna and steambath are located in a dark cellar, both not really inviting. Nonetheless a great retreat, as I was looking for a quiet and relaxing few days.

Hotel is good situated and the staff serving in the restaurant is very friendly. We booked a room with half board for the euro price. In euro's it is quite expensive. The hotel did unfortunately not live up to it's expectations! The receptionists are very unfriendly. They offer you a transport but they forget to tell you that it costs 25 CHF per way. The food in the halfboard menu is of a very poor quality.
The price of the booked room is offered in Swiss Francs and in Euro's. If you want to pay in euro's then you have to bring it in cash?! They forgot to mention it on the confirmationpaper. If you don't bring it in cash then you are charged with the dayrate wich means +/- 20% more! So our holiday was even extra more expensive in an overrated hotel.

We recently stayed for a weekend at Art Furrer's brand-new First Class resort, which only opened in July 2010.

The newly built complex only consists of 30 or so suites. We stayed in a Junior Suite which was more than spacious and built in the regional wooden style. The Suite has two bathrooms, a changing room and a large living room.

Food and service at the restaurant were excellent.

There is a smallish wellness area (sauna, steam) in the building, but guests at the First Class resort have also access to the pool side in the adjacent Art Furrer Hotel.

But by far the most amazing thing is the view over the golf course towards the mountains.

Just a perfect place to relax in Riederalp.

Traditional Swiss mountain hotel with fantastic views from the front located rooms. Proved incredible value in Swiss terms for HB during the high ski leading up to Easter. Good European style breakfast and excellent 4 course meal each evening in a charming restaurant. Very best thing to report is the staff, who were always friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Local skiing a little limited and can suffer from south facing all day sunshine, but alternate days commute to Saas Fee, Zermatt and Crans Montana easily do-able while accommodation and ski passes a fraction of the cost of these larger resorts. You even get a daily visit from Mr Furrer himself (local boy made good as a skiing celeb, though not exactly in the traditional sense); watch out for the little fella in the big hat, might look from a distance like a Deputy Dawg extra, but he's the boss of most of what you see around Riederalp! If you go, don't miss a side trip to the French influenced Sion where the old architecture, food and wine can make you feel like you are much further south.
