“Nice piece of Japan in the heart of Pyrenees”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

We stayed in Iori Hotel for one night and very much enjoyed our time. The staff is friendly and helpful, our room (Fuji) was compfortable and spacious enough for a family of 4, with views of nearby mountains. The interior decoration is rather minimalist with basic Ikea furnitire but it looks clean and organic and reminded us of some modern ryokans in Japan.

We did order a japanese dinner when we booked the place and though we didn't get any sushi, it was well ballanced and tasty, so if you don't feel like going anywhere or the weather is not good, it is certainly a good option.

The hotel is centrally located but maybe difficlut to find, so make sure you print the directions from the web site and update your GPS maps. Also note that parking maybe a challenge.

No words can describe our satisfaction from the hotel. The staff was super friendly and helpful, from finding interesting things to do in the surroundings to recommending restaurants the locals eat in, was flexible to our requirements and always with a smile. The room was superbly clean and well designed and equipped in a special japanese style. If we ever come back to Vielha, the hotel will be our first choice! Great food as well.

First impressions are that the Japanes style hotel is a little austere, but the rooms are large and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a serious car breakdown (brake cables severed) on a Sunday and they found the right garage for us first thing Monday and by Tuesday afternoon the repairs were done with parts from Barcelona, in the most severe winter weather for years. Good healthy breakfasts. Sushi/Sashimi meals available (not Sun/Mon). Parking not easy (especially in deep snow) but underground garage is good. Vielha is a great place in the evenings, with excellent tapas bars. The best ones are recommended by the hotel. This is an great location for skiing at Baqueira Beret and I would choose this hotel again, without hesitation.

Thanks to the travel directions on the website, the hotel was easy to find. A disadvantage of being close to the town centre is that parking the car may be difficult. Furthermore, there is not much view to be had on the surrounding mountains. Our room was quite spacious but it had a rather cold atmosphere (no curtains, minimal furniture). The bathroom had several unpractical aspects, like a very small wash-stand. On the other hand, breakfast, although with limited choice, was of excellent quality.

This is a new hotel built in the local traditional style but with all modern amenities. The owner runs it in a modern Japanese style. Apart from all the required amenities she also provides sushi in the evenings (if you order ahead, we did not realise this), does excellent healthy breakfasts and sells various very nice and reasonably priced Japanese items which her mother brings in her suitcase when she visits. Spacious timbered rooms, immaculate throughout. The airport is Toulouse (in France) rather than Barcelona and the hotel provides a shuttle service there.

Room Tip: They are all excellent

We stayed one night in the Iori, in late May, which is out of season - we found ourselves the only guests in the hotel - a strange feeling, but it was just delightful, nonetheless. We'd booked the Sakura room, which was very nice, and importantly, exactly as described and pictured on the hotel website. Andra, at Reception, looked after everything beautifully, found us a radiator to put in the bedroom since the weather was a bit chilly, and made up for the grey sky with her good humour and smile. When we unexpectedly needed a dentist the following morning, she couldn't have been more helpful or concerned. Breakfast was a bit minimalist, but apart from that, we came away with a very positive impression of the Iori hotel.

Very, very friendly people running a most advisable, comfortable little hotel, as well as an excellent Japanese restaurant. We had a large room (and large bathroom) with lovely, minimalist, modernist forniture and decoration. Standards of cleanliness and service (from breakfast to all the minor items) are superb. Efficient and very friendly at the same time. The place is quiet, inviting, soothing, and most satisfactory in every respect. It's a treat.
