“Pleasantly surprised! I don't know what all the fuss is about?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2009

I booked a last minute all-inclusive "allocation on arrival" type deal. Due to the lateness of the booking, I was able to get the hotel details before departure. As you can imagine, when I googled the hotel name I was bombarded with negative comments and immediately tried to make a U-turn with the agent. She re-assured me saying that we were able to use any of the H-TOP hotels facilities, so if we weren't happy with the Platja Park we could always go to the sister hotel for meals, drinks etc. etc.

Transfers went without a hitch and initial impressions of the hotel on arrival were good. Very clean lobby and rooms, although couldnt get the aircon to work on the first night. A quick word with reception and got the room cool after making sure the patio door was closed and setting the thermostat to 30deg. (???). Safe requires a 24Euro deposit of which 10Euro was refunded on return of the small plastic safe fob.

Rooms were very basic, but extremely clean. The maids came and replaced towells bedding, toiletories on a daily basis and were very friendly!!

Food was excellent. Breakfast included continental, fried, cereals, croissant etc etc. Lunch consisted of lots of Mediterranean style salads, pastas and a grill was serving meat or fish on a daily basis. Dinner much the same - A good spread of food (Something for everyone!).

Drinks plentyful although only one small bar (Pool bar didnt open) which could get busy in the evenings. Local brew was draught Estrella (5.4%abv) - (A few of these during the day on an empty stomach and you knew about it) Any drinks taken outside to the pool are were served in plastic cups (for obvious reasons).

Hotel facilities were basic but sufficient. Pool and surrounding area fairly cramped although I guess may not be an issue depending on time of year.

1. Hotel is very clean. The dining area, rooms and lobby were cleaned on a daily basis
2. The bar staff, maids & dining staff we met were very nice. We were very polite and we were treated very nicely.
3. Food was very good. REMEMBER the hotel is geared towards the Spanish & French market so the emphasis is on the meditteranean diet. Lots of salads, pastas, veal, pork and fish / seafood. If you want to eat like a brit expect fast food all day you've probably come to the wrong place.
4. Swimming pool very clean. Crystal clear and no sign of any surface debris.
5. Drinks plentiful. Although served in small plastic cups (Around 200ml maybe) you could get 2-3 drinks per 'All-inclusive card'.

1. Hotel is probably not a 4-Star by UK standards, probably more 3-Star. Guests when we stayed consisted of 50% Spanish, 30% French, 10% Dutch, 10% Brits.
2. Swimming pool unheated and very cold! You get used to this after a while although can be a shock to the system.
3. House red wine is served draught and very cold (Is this a Spanish thing?) I suggest ordering the bottle at lunch / dinner if you like you red wine nearer room temperature.
4. Queue at bar in the evenings can get busy, so be patient. I suggest loading up during the day or taking a walk to the nearby town for your evenings drinking.

Other than that - very pleasant trip. To be honest I don't know what all the fuss is about ?

Not a 4* hotel in UK standards, but wasn't expecting 4* UK quality. As for a European hotel, its quite good. Big lobby area, sitting area and bar area, as well as dining hall, gym, pool area, internet area, game area and childrens room.

Arrived for a 5 night stay, and was greeted warmly, by staff who spoke English fluently. Was issued All-inclusive passes straightaway even though room wasn't ready yet, and was able to get access to non-brand name drinks straightaway ( cola wasn't 'coca-cola' but it was local brand, not too bad) Didn't have any alcohol, but saw name-brands on shelf.

Room was very spacious, 2 double beds and large bathroom, inc shower and hairdryer, and a balcony facing the hillsides with lovely view. Although the land outside wasn't well maintained, i don't think it was the hotel's property as locals walked on it.

All inclusive = Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, snacks, and drinks as standard, basically a all you can eat buffet. Bit samey in food selection (veal, pork, pasta, salad, same desserts and breakfast daily) but ok food and no one seemed to have a problem with the selection, or be ill etc. Snacks were kept in a room next to the bar, and was open inbetween the main meals and included ice cream and ice pops

The pool was very large, with lots of sun loungers and chairs available. The pool wasn't heated as the large fountain in the middle, cooled the sun-heated water down and the pool was open 9am-7pm, so plenty of chance to get in. Also a childrens pool.
As soon as you get in the pool, the warmth isn't a problem, as the sun heats you up nicely!

Didn't take advantage of the night entertainment provided by the hotel, as had a quiet week, and explored the town at night for the late night shops or stayed in the hotel room with drinks.

Tv in room only had 1 english channel - bbc world news, but again, our holiday wasn't about tv watching, so not a problem.

Room was made up daily, with fresh towels in the bathroom, room had a lock if you didn't put up your 'do not disturb sign' and locked your door, no maids could get in.

Staff were very friendly, and helpful, the bar staff got to know our regular order!

Internet kiosk was available for 1 euro for 15 mins, (and longer/shorter time was available, 50c = 8mins, 2e = 30mins) and was always able to get on without a problem. Also had a dvd player to watch movies if you wanted to pay for it. Saw plenty of people using laptops in the lobby, so wi-fi seemed available, although not sure if it was free or not.

When we checked out of our room on last day, at 10am, we were able to store our luggage in a secure room, until 7pm when we left, and even after we checked out, we were still able to use our all-inclusive passes for the bar, and eat lunch without a problem. Also was allowed to stay in hotel lobby and use the pool

The nearby beach is a 5 min walk away, but is not sandy, rather small pebbles, which is a bit tough to walk on, but ok to sit and lay on with a beach towel.

plenty of shops nearby, but beware of the siesta from 2pm-5pm for most places are shut!

There is a supermarket about a 1-2 min walk from the hotel, which is very good value for money = a litre of water is 1 euro! open 9am-8pm.

Variety of different customers in hotel, not too many other english people about, mostly spanish guests as we could see.

As we went sept 6-11, the area was quiet-ish, so quite a nice relaxing place to be, and seemed to be a very laid back area, with little worry of crime or danger.

Read the other reviews, and don't understand how others had a bad time here. Maybe if before you go here you realise that Spain 4* is not UK 4* you will not be disappointed.

Uk standards 3*-3.5*

Very nice time and nice place / area to go for a relaxing holiday
