“Good quality local food”
Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

Read about the Royal on trip and went on our second night, grilled asparagus followed by sardines with a green salad. Really good quality and great taste would highly recommend, quick and friendly service waiter told us all ingredients are locally sourced. Total bill includes water and two beers €52

“Fab service and great food”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Loved the fantastic service, nothing was too much trouble and no waiting around (need that when eating with 4 year old). Food was great, garlic prawns and croquettes and salad. Lovely. No complaints and would recommend.

“Simple and Serene by the Sea”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We visited the Costa Brava in May 2012, "village hopping" alongside the sea one day and stopped in Tamariu at afternoon tea time. The Royal was still busy with tables of locals enjoying the weekend. I asked for an iced coffee, and got exactly that - a shot of coffee and a glass of ice - but by stealing milk from my wife's cup of tea was able to make what I wanted!! We both had simple things to eat - FRESH sliced orange with a little cream and walnuts, and a baked apple with cinnamon - both perfect and a delightful way to absorb the sand, the sea, the boats, the people.

“Very much recommended! Bueno bonito barato.”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Living in Spain for almost ten years now, I learned that you have to go where the locals go. In Tamariu, that is Restaurant Royal! We were hungry after a long walk along the coast and looking for a reasonably priced paella. The first restaurant we ran into charges 30 euro per person (we had to look twice to believe that....): there were two Brittish families on the terrace. The second one brings you paella for 20 euro: terrace empty. The Royal charges you 10 eur pp. for a nice paella - and the terrace was full with Catalan families and tourists. And I really mean a nice, hot, and well prepared seafood paella, no tourist crap. With a shared starter, two beers, two deserts and a coffee we paid a bit more than 40 euros. That´s a good price in Spain, and the spectacular view over the Tamariu cala & beach comes for free on top of that.

Just ate there earlier tonight with my family. Service was abysmal. Total disinterest. Although we are Brits, I speak fluent Spanish and I could tell that the young waiters were more interested in the passing females and shouting at their mates across the way at other restaurants than they were at ensuring that we were prmptly served. Never seen so many bored looking waiters. They weren't busy. Had to ask for bread and it was stale. Had to call a waiter over to ask for drinks. Arroz negro (black paella) was passable but nothing to write home on Tripadvisor about. Asked for profiteroles for one of my kids and it was inedible. They knocked it off the bill. Would not go there again.
