“A bit of exercise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

If you're after a brisk walk up the volcano, drive out to the residential area at the base of the mountain and follow the obvious foot path. Great views of Playa Blanca and a good way to burn a few calories.

“Wear good footwear!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2013

A pleasant walk up to the volcano. Because there are a lot of small loose pebbles and dry shingle it does make the walk down slightly more awkward than up, but if you take it slow and wear good shoes (not flip flops!) it is very manageable. Start at Av. los Claveles (not far from the Paradise Island hotel and Jardines del Sol) and follow the signs to the volcano.

“Climb up Montana Roja”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2013

Whilst in Playa Blance my wife and I climbed up the Volcano at the back of the resort, i.e. Montana Roja. We were staying in the Atlantic Gardens hotel and from starting and finishing at the hotel it took 2 hours exactly. This was taking it quite stady. The views from the top at the edge of the crater were good and we walked all the way around the rim of the crater. Assuming you have no trouble in walking it is worth spending a couple of hours taking this walk.

“A must do in Playa Blanca”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2013

This is a great walk, not too testing but do wear proper footwear (trainers are fine) and sun screen. I notice one other reviewer suggested flip flops but I wouldn't recommend it.

The path to the top is well worn and obvious once at the start. The start of the route that we went up begins at a mobile phone transmitter at the end of a dead end street called Montana Baja. You cant drive to the end of it was it is residents only but you can park within about 100m of it without annoying anyone.

To find the parking spot the coordinates are N 28.869790, W 13.848532

Once at the top you do get excellent views across the entire resort so well worth the little effort required. Take a packed lunch and chill out once up there

“It's a must do! ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013 via mobile

If there is one thing you have to do while visiting Lanzarote and indeed Playa Blanca, is to climb the dormant volcano. The views of the whole of the south of the island are breathtaking!! Well worth the exercise and free!!
