“lovely accommadation”
Reviewed April 15, 2008

stayed here for four nights really enjoyed ourself . the apartments were clean and modern with lots of room only go here if you like quiet and relaxing places. the marina was nice some nice places to eat only went in to playa blanca once was nice but we like quieter places and found this more for tourists. would recommend going to papagayo beaches we hired push bikes which hotel arranged for us and had a great day there is six coves around this area and we went to them all. we had to leave the bikes and walk to get to see them all but well worth it. i didnt think i was going to enjoy lanzarote after going to other places in the world maldives, zanzibar and dubai but i was pleasently surprised.

We stayed for a week at the Rubimar in Playa Blanca and had an excellent holiday. It had the nicest apartment we’ve stayed in (and we’ve been to quite a lot). Unlike a lot of places the apartment actually had some decent modern furniture and a modern fully fitted kitchen (though as always the kitchen equipment is very basic and limited.) It was very clean and the maids did a good job so no complaints there. We were self catering and never used the restaurant on-site so can’t comment on the food. The facilities in the place were good – nice to have the heated indoor pool as the outdoor one was freezing cold. It also has a good gym and a jacuzzi / sauna so you can treat yourself. The glass balconies are a nice touch and all the different coloured lights on them at night make for an attractive scene.

We loved the location of the hotel, though not everyone would agree. It’s a 15 minute walk to the beach but that walk is down the promenade so it’s a lovely walk. Some visitors to Playa Blanca might miss the Marina Rubicon if they are staying on the other side of the resort and that’s a shame as it’s the best bit. The Rubimar is situated right next to the marina so we were happy with the location. The marina has only been recently built and they are trying to attract wealthy people so it’s all of the highest standard and kept immaculate. It has a selection of designer shops and classy restaurants – some of which are really expensive and others are only a little bit more than the restaurants around the beach – well worth checking them out. We ate at Lani’s Grill and also at Il Commendatore, we can recommend both. Next to the hotel is the Rubicon shopping centre which is lovely, though it’s still quite new so they still have shop units yet to be filled. It has ten-pin bowling and mini-golf if you want them. The supermarket inside (Maxcoop) is dead cheap and surprisingly well stocked with the stuff we buy in Britain.

As for the resort, as others have said it’s really quiet and more geared up to having nice meals out rather than going nightclubbing, which was fine as we wanted a quiet holiday. The beach is man-made, golden sand and very nice. Plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from. Also, as it’s quieter you don’t get hassled by timeshare people or dodgy watch sellers etc. We did the island tour excursion where they take you to the top of the Timanfaya volcano and later in the day you visit Jameos del Agua which is a kind of underground cavern with a lake inside – may not sound interesting but it really is a fascinating and beautiful place. We also went for a day’s sailing on the Rubicat catamaran (which leaves from the marina outside the hotel) – excellent day with plenty of sunbathing, scenery and free lunch and drinks. Don’t know if it’s the same all year round but at the moment they charge one adult half price and kids are apparently free, so it’s pretty good.

So if you end up at the Rubimar, hopefully you will also have a good holiday – enjoy.
