Caybeach Sun
Ranked #28 of 37 Hotels in Playa Blanca
Reviewed September 13, 2009

Cay Beach Sun is a nice hotel. The rooms are kept well, spacious, clean, good faclilities, good balcony, not a bad bathroom, everything you need. The supermarket at the hotel is well equipped and good prices. Reception area good, bar / cafe o.k entertaimment o.k but not amaizing! Advertised shows that didn't happen... DO NOT EAT IN THE RESTUARANT! We were self catering and decided to try hotel resturant one night, was awfull, choice was rubbish (veggie) and flies were on all the salad's, cakes etc. Was not nice at all! Stick to the restuarants in Playa Blanca. And stick to self catering!!! Playa Blanca is a nice resort, but not really that big, got stuck for places to eat as most menu's all the same, not excatly spoilt for choice! Plenty to do in Lanzarote, places to defiantly visit are the cactus garden (amaizing for just 5 euros!!), the national park fire mountain, the green caves, the submarine trip at peurto calero. Don't book trips through your rep, total ripp off!! Hire a car and find your own way as loads cheaper! Wanted to charge us 32 euro's for trip to fire mountain, go yourself cost 8 euro's!!! Best car hire was through Cabera Maredina excellent company - roughly 120 euro's for 5 days, Avis car hire wanted 60 euro's A DAY!!!
If you go for a day trip to Fuertventura go on the Fred Olsen ferry, as only takes 12 mins from playa blanca, don't book the trip through your rep as they take you to puerto del carmen onto a boat that takes nearly 2 hours to get there, and not good for travel sickness... you spend longer on the boat than exploring fuertventura!!!

here is a very useful and honest review of the marie celeste i mean the cay beach sun ...... it states that it is for families and couples .....not so .... choose the lanzarotte princess instead, we have just got back and have the following points

HOTEL STAFF - when you can find them they walk around like they are on the titanic , thay are not very helpful and you have to wait hours for any solutions , we actually witnessed a girl at reception arguing with the night porter !! she had only been there 3 weeks !!!! and they did not stop as we walked through reception

FOOD - go self catering food appauling no choice , really bad quality and no labels on the food so you dont know what your eating . we stayed half board but got moved to self catering

POOL AND ROOMS rooms were very good , spacious good facilities, pools were also very good 2 good size ones very clean , dont worry about getting a sun lounger!!

HOTEL FACILITIES 1930's decor bar is small and poor , pool bar says it open but never gets round to it , very good shop though at reasonable prices, lifeguard on site is good , has pool tables and a table tennis table that has seen better days but they are fine .

ENTERTAINMENT - is non existent is the brocheur says occasional evening entertainment .....it really is the occasional parrot show organised by the bar manager other than that there is nothing for the kids the LANZAROTTE PRINCESS is 5 mins away and as long as you get a drink they there entertainment is excellent

RESORT again very quiet but very nice if your expecting night clubs STOP and book to go to another resort as there is none , lovely chinese called the slow boat and an english sandwich shop called cafe aroma but plenty of choice for food , fantastic beach and wonderful views of fuetaventura

OVERALL , a good hotel if you want peace and relaxation its great no one will bother you no noise and no staff to worry about bumping in to, good apartments cleaners are good and it has great facilities :note: just watch out for the receptionist arguing with the night porter , a very poor hotel if your taking your family or you are expecting lively atmosphere
as its just not on the cards , and most importantly go self catering please for your own good .......half board

want to know anything else e mail me [--]

just back from cay beach sun and we had a great time , the apartments are a good size with everything you need if you plan on cooking , the complex is very nice wiyh two great size pools and a smaller one for the children , it also has a very nice playground and kids club which my little one loved , the onsite shop really has everything that you need but there is plenty of supermarkets around playa blanca if you cant find whwt your looking for, we didnt eat in the restaruant so cant comment on the food , the staff were very friendly and helpfull , playa blanca is a lovely place , very relaxed and child friendly , we ate out alot in Tipico Canario , new orleans and Jumbos , the food was great and they all made a big deal about our daughter much to her delight , it was lovely to stroll along the prom in the evenings and have a drink or two in the Harp bar while the little one played on the trampoline and merry go round , the beach has to be one of nicest we have seen in along time , just walk out to waist level by the rocks and you can see the little fish swimming around by your feet , all the children on the beach would spend ages looking at them having great fun , the weather was great with a lovely breeze to keep you cool , we loved playa blanca and had a great time in beach sun and we are already talking about booking it again next year , we could not fault anything about this holiday so sad to leave ........

Stayed for a week in July, and was somewhat disappointed after reading the many positive reviews here. It was a bargain holiday so i didn't expect luxury and i guess it was ok for the money paid.
But, the place does need some money spending on it and then it would be fine.
Good points.
Spacious apartment, and clean, nice outlook over pool and sea in distance.Large balcony
Good pools,nice grounds,
Plenty of sunbeds, though several were tatty and broken.
Staff mostly ok. Reception staff very helpful and pleasant.
Location good, only 10 mins to beach,15 to town(many other hotels are way out of town/beach)

Not so good points
Bath was a disgrace-large rusty patch and 2 large rusty chips. Was not suitable to use as bath, luckily only used it to stand in for showers.
Main door frame loose and had to call maintenance as it refused to shut, whole thing was in need of replacement.
Window catch very loose, could have been forced open easily.
Balcony paintwork peeling and shabby.
Hairdryer held together with tape.
Air con 6eu per day and only effective in bedroom(too expensive for what it was)
Maids used to leave black binbags outside of apartments every day for someone else to collect in evening. So rubbish (plastic bottles mainly)constantly blowing around(breezy most days) and in some cases bags were there all night and were a right mess in morning.
Lots of broken/chipped floor tiles on stairs and corridors.Very dangerous to people with bare feet/flip flops.

As i said, we were slightly disappointed in how run down our apartment and surrounding area were,so as a result would not stay here again, even though it was cheap. It would'nt take much to tidy it up and replace broken things to make place very pleasant, and maybe other parts of the complex were better?
Playa Blanca great as ever. Lovely laid back resort with enough to see and do but very relaxing. Probably return again and look for different digs.
Overall i can't really understand how this is the 11th rated accomadation in Playa Blanca though.
Would hate to stay at the 44th!
Stay here if you get a really cheap deal ,if not i would look elsewhere, until they spend a bit of money on the place.

we just got back from cay beach sun, room very well equiped for self catering supermarket on site was cheaper than others in resort. This hotel is not really a good choice for young families as not much goes on day or night. The hotel bar was pitiful and in great need of a revamp, not at all apealing to spend an evening in,the pool bar wasnt much better,Andy barman tries with what he has to work with.pool area was nice and pleasant, plenty of beds as not many people there, however both pools were freezing, too cold even for young ones.As for location out of the way but near enough to walk to nearest beach and shops and restaurants.Resort and beaches beautiful ideal for couples not a lot for young children.would definately go back but not to cay beach sun unfortunately.Expensive drinking and eating out due to the euro rate.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at these apartments in November 2008 and had a really enjoyable week in a nice resort. The apartments are fairly basic but had everything you need, they were kept very clean and the staff at reception were very helpfull. It is about a ten minute walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. The marina is a bit further away but is worth a look. I would reccomend this resort for a quiet week away with loads of choice of restaurants you won't go hungry.

My husband, children and I went to these apartments on the recommendation of my sister who has stayed there several times before for a cheap week away. She decribed them to me as being a little bit tired but very clean with nice communal areas and friendly staff - And that is exactly how they were. We booked through Alpharooms.com and paid £350 for a 2 bedroom apartment which I thought was fantastic value. However when we arrived we were actually given 2 x 1 bedroom apartments with connecting door which had the added benefit of a second bathroom. This was great when the four of us were trying to get ready to go out in the evening. Also a second sitting room/kitchinette was handy too as it gave the children more space. Its about a 10-15 minute walk to the beach/restaurants on good, well lit pavements. It was pretty quiet when we were there even though it was half term but there were a few children for my boys (aged 14 and 9) to play with in the pool. I would definitely recommend these apartments if you want a cheap week in the sun and we are already planning to return next February. This was our first winter sun holiday and we had such a great time that we are going to make this a reglar thing. Walking along a sunny beach seems extra special when its February and its been snowing at home.
