Party - Myself, husband and 2 kids (7 and 4), Sister and family (kids 4 and 1) and my parents.
ARRIVAL - Chaotic. No help/trolleys to take luggage on quite long hikes to rooms. Paid £70 as soon as we got there for Security safe and air conditioning control. Think the safe's should be free.
ROOMS - Was quite impressed on first impressions as they were very clean and had all the facilities. Although my sister's room stank of drains. Asked about extending our room on departure as we had a baby - they said they doubt they could accomodate as they were fully booked with 1000 guests, but to come back the day before we left.
FOOD- Pretty average for an all inclusive. Kids loved the choclate fountain each night. Cart'd' ore icecream on tap. Can't really complain about the quality, but can get a bit repetative. The restaurant itself is another story. We either had to eat our dinner at 6pm to avoid the queues....and I mean queues to get a table, queues to get your drinks, another to get your dinner. The children wanted icecream for desert - which they had one "station" and on one occassion I queued for 10 minuites.
Breakfast - is the same you either have to go as soon as it opens or when it closes.
Pool Bar - We were by the "adult/quiet" pool - which was more like the inflatables pool! and there was one lady working behind the bar....so again....queues....even when the kids wanted a soft drink/icecream - you would have to get and stand in line.
POOLS - Cramped!!! No space between sunbeds. Claustrophobic. Probably due to beach closure ( which doesn't look like opening any time soon!) People out at 6am with quilts/coats reserving their sunbeds. We didn't once get round the main pool in 10 days. We didn't reserve any beds and came down after breakfast and only managed to get beds away from the pool, with no parasols for our one year old...We heard quite a few families with babies complaining that there were insufficient parasols and beds....We were told that we could hire them!!! After kicking up a fuss - they miraculously found one for us! Heard lots of reports of people reserving sunbeds with towel and the reps walking round and taking them off - so be warned.
BEACH - closed and looks like a construction site. We walked into the Playa Dorada beach which was lovely. We asked about a packed lunch to take as we wouldn't be making use of the AI facilities and they gave us a lunch....a ham sandwich with no butter, a warm yoghurt with no spoon and a raw kiwi fruit...we ended up feeding the fish with it and buying lunch. The hotel kindly lay on a courtesy bus to the beach - which didn't show up on a couple of ocassions and we had to get a taxi for £4 - which FC said they would re-imburse
KIDS - We paid £40 (yet more extras) for my son to do the football Academy which he loved. The fee included a Reebok football shirt and bottle in the price - which I thought wasnt' too bad - but at the end of the session we were advised they they didn't have any shirts of his age so gave him an age 11-12 and were not getting any more in.
Also the 3-5 years old kids club gets packed and on one occasion were told we couldn't get in. Again complained and they miraculously found another Rep to help out in the club so they our children could attend.
My sister ended up paying £70 in creche fees (yet more extras)
ENTERTAINMENT - Great if you like Butlins type shows. I don't mind this to a certain extent but there is no where to escape it once its got too much...think Cinderella pantomimes....The kids enjoyed the show from 8.30. But the kids dancing/disco seemed to come on about 11pm!! All of the bars are inside. The queues to get a drink are riduculous. Nowhere to sit and chat as its all tooloud. We and quite a few other families ended up spending extra money going out of the complex to avoid it.
On check out we were given a courtesy room for one hour between 10 people. Chaos.
I think First Choice have got greedy. The hotel would have been lovely with about 200 people less crammed in. They need more staff...one person behind each bar is just ridiculous.
They need an open air bar - and not just the smokers area.
Its a shame that we heard soo many good things about Holiday Villages but I can certainly say we won't be visiting again.
