“Great family holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

Visited Flamingo Beach on 23rd May for 1 week with my husband & 3 kids - age 6,3& 9 months. Booked through Falon/First Choice as Holiday Village. The accommodation was excellent - 1 bed apartment was clean & spacious. After flight delay didnt arrive til 3am but in contrast to arriving at other accommodation was still staff there to greet us & even offered to get us something to eat. Cot & air con already available in room so made up for delay. Complex quite spread out but suited us as had quiet apartment away from noise so kids could nap during day. Only negatives - hot water started to run bit cold as all showered & some building work going on -didn't bother us but heard others complaining. Excellent choice of pools. Beach front & really is just a stones throw to beach -great for kids cause meant didn't have to carry loads of stuff to beach as apartment so close. All inclusive food was excellent - good quality & choice. Can go to 3 proper restaurants rather than just buffet style eating all the time. Loved the fact that some of snacks during day worked by self service -style. Have stayed in other Holiday Villages in past but definelty food here the best. Although booked as Holiday Village felt let down by First Choice experience - entertainment was same as has been for past 3 years - now dated & boring. Tries to aim at kids of too great an age range & not sure the kids really got it. Think the high points of this hotel due to local staff rather than First Choice. Playa Blanca lovely family friendly resort - lovely walk to marina. Plenty to do - market & got ferry to Fuerteventura - not much to see but kids enjoyed the boat ride. Travelled to Lanzarote in search of better weather than say Majora. Weather OK -overcast at times but still plenty to do & still warm enough. Sun lasted well in to evening.Always a breeze though but was worth going a bit further. Would reccomend this hotel, would return but not necessarily with First CHoice.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask to be away from main pool area. Also for room with private gated terrac...

Firstly I have to say I visited this resort previously in 2007 and vowed never to return. Now, having given it a second chance (under new management) I can happily say I would return.
Although not perfect, this is a lovely resort, with the most amazing location on the beachfront - but it is a 20 minute stroll to the main resort centre (this is a lovely beach front walk so is not too harrowing, and there are taxi's at a good price if required).

Now, for once the weather wasn't the best, but then no one can guarantee this so weather aside, I will try to give my best opinion.

Location - lovely beach front. Most bungalows and 1st floor apartments will have a partial sea view. Few ground floor apartments will get this view.

Rooms - Clean, Tidy, and spacious. 2 queen beds in the bedroom and a dressing table, with fitted double wardrobes (take a few extra hangers though). A sofa in the lounge, with a pullout and lift up bed with mattress - now this I have to say was very uncomfortable as it was an old style metal continuous spring mattress. It may be ok for the kids, but as adults we could certainly feel the metal springs, and they creaked loudly when turning over in bed!! Now, Im sure all would be ok if we had the bedroom, but we find it works better that kids have the bedroom as the tv is in the lounge so we can stay up after kids are asleep and also get up before them without disturbing them (which is needed if you want a sunbed - we'll get to that later!)

Food - Although it did get repetitive, it is actually a good choice of food and for the majority of it is really actually good. I didn't have high expectations for the food, this being only the 2nd european AI holiday Ive taken after a disasterous one 15years ago, but I was pleasantly surprised. Great variety of fish and meats, fresh cooked option every day, salad bar replenished frequently, typical nugget, hotdog and chips option, but no need to go this way if you don't want to - plenty to choose from. Variety of deserts, including a chocolate fountain in the downstairs buffet restaurant - classed as the more child orientated buffet - but both tend to do same food in the evenings, but upstairs has a more restaurant feel to it rather than a food hall feel. In the day tho, upstairs does have a few more options, like crab meat claws, and different ice creams. (obviously lots of other things I could mention but then I'll be typing forever!!)
Oh, Ice-creams available all day (except brekkie) and its caret d'or and absolutely delicious - the main flavours are cream, toffee, strawberry, choc, vanilla and lemon sorbet, but then there are days with walnut, mint choc, pistachio, coffee...be prepared to put on weight :)
Breakfasts are great....so much choice that you can go continental, or full English...and is as expected. Lots of fruit and cold meats, porridge (just delicious), fresh cooked omelettes and pancakes, boiled eggs, usual cooked brekkie things (bacon and sausage not great but typical for spain), also have Churros with the pancakes and choc sauce, oh, and my daughters fave, muffins!!!
Themed restaurants - Tavern on sea, same standard as resort buffet. El Duque, fairly good steaks - heard reports of some of the steaks being chewy but was lucky as ours was good. They also although the kdis to have steak rather than the kids menu food. Bambola Italian - didn't rate too well as the buffet was limp and dried out looking with a few insects lurking and deserts lacking. Main menu food though was ok if you go for the pizzas. tasty, fresh and hot..and even the kids nuggets and chips were better than buffet as fresh, and chunky chips. Heard bad comments about other options though on the main menu and was advised to stick to pizza - which we did.

Entertainment - daytime activities for the kids was great. both my 8yr son and 5yr daughter participated in the kids clubs and loved it; although son soon found friends and preferred to spent time with them instead of going in clubs, but it was hard to get daughter out of them. The evening entertainment though isn't up to usual standard, and to be honest we didn't hang around much for it so would be wrong of me to comment on this further. however I will say it was a small area for the amount of residents and therefore got very crowded.
The resort was lacking a place to go if you didn't want to be at the blue moon shows, however on the last few days the Atlantic bar was relocated down by the childrens park and provided the much needed space and peace to enjoy a few more drinks before going back to your room, and the kids got to play some more and tire themselves out enough to guarantee a good nights sleep :)

Reception staff were always polite and helpful and we had no reason to complain.
First choice staff were friendly, helpful and approachable - no complaints there at all.

Sunbeds - well, this is the only big issue at the resort! Basically, if you aren't up before 7am you are unlikely to get a bed by the main pool; I evenheard someone comment that they get up at 530 to get a bed! although they say its not permitted to reserve a bed, it does happen and unless it is mentioned to a 'lifeguard' then nothing is done to stop it. It does cause issues, but there is a lovely beach to use that gives you a less stressful time - just is difficult when the kids have made friends and want to stay around the pool. By the end of a 2 week hol we even had to admit we had to get in the mind set 'if you cant beat them, join them!!' This is really the only thing I can fault with this resort/holiday. I have no reservations in recommending it otherwise.

Only one other note...be prepared for the COLD swimming pools in the first half of the year....our May/Jun hol meant the sun hadn't heated the pools up yet and it was FREEZING...!!! Again, kids liked it once they got in...but the slimmer one couldn't stay in for long time, whereas my well-covered son, stayed in all day!!

My son was sick for one day, but we couldn't put this down to anything in particular and think it was just a change in diet, atmosphere, and cold pool for a few days - he was not the only one ill but in all cases I heard about, only lasted 18-24hours.

All in all, we had a great holiday. A lovely room - a standard bungalow with a pitched roof giving the feeling of even more space - will definitely ask for the same room on return. Great entertainment staff - kids were asking to return before we had even got on plane to go home. Enough food to break the scales when we got home! Cant comment on drinks as I didn't partake, well, other than in their Baileys substitute which was as good as the real thing :)

Room Tip: bungalow 59 had partial seaview and a pitched roof giving the feeling of more space. was in quiet lo...

Dear customers,
Thank you very much for your nice review. Yes First choice has been in Flamingo for some years and the improvements has been huge. Actually the latest restaurant we opened last week was the Green & Grill. This is a snack restaurant during the daytime (best 100% beef burgers in town) and a Grill restaurant during dinner for our Holiday village customers. The food and the views are amazing so get ready to have another fantastic gastronomic experience in our Holiday Village Flamingo beach.
regards
Angel

Just had two weeks at this resort and have to say that the location of this resort along with the cleanliness of this place are first class.
The food is good with something for everyone, and the staff are very friendly.
Our special thanks to the entertainment team 'Especially HOLLY' who made our holiday extra special, Along with SCOTT the DJ/Sound Engineer they went out of their way to entertain us.
Thank you to you all we will remember you always, Pauline & Dave xx

I absolutely agree with chesterchick_11's review.
I was there at the same time, although didn't meet them.
The food was excellent, the staff extremely nice, the room service second to none.
I have stayed in many all inclusive resorts throughout Europe with this particular company, and can honestly say this resort and hotel outclassed every other.
If you can get an upstairs apartment,do.
The views overlook the sea and nearby Fuertuventura, which we took a ferry to.
All in all I couldn't recommend this place enough, although the entertainment was lacking, more money needs spending on it.
A credit to Angel the manager,he's at the top of his game, make no mistake.

Room Tip: Try to get an upstairs apartment for the outstanding sea views.

Dear customers,
Thank you very much for your nice words and thank you for your recognition of my work. However behind me there are a lot of good workers that make my job easier. They all work hard with a smile on their faces and this is not easy. I am glad that your experience with us was fantastic and hope to see you again very soon in our Holiday village Flamingo beach.
Best regards,
Angel

We just returned from this holiday village after a 10 day stay from 30th may till 9th June. There are many positives and just a couple of negatives. Food...amazing, loads of choice and also places to eat it within the all inclusive hotel grounds. Also they opened a new grill restaurant on our last day next to the lane swimming pool which is totally fab! 1 very important thing to note is the wine is very nice which in our experience is unusual in all inclusive!! Beach...totally fab and just a few steps away with peddle boats to hire which our kids loved. Top tip...take bread to feed the fish they swarm around and are amazing to watch! Hotel service...excellent! Our tv broke and it was replaced within 10 mins. Waiters and cleaners worked very hard and did a great job. Downsides...we couldn't get sunbeds and we weren't prepared to get up early to do so. We went without and used towels on the beach. This was a shame but not the end of the world. Our big big negative was the evening entertainment. It was boring. In the end we sent our older son of 5 to kids club which he loved. There didn't seem to be any budget spent on stage sets, scenery or professional interesting acts. Kids club totally totally brill, safe and incredibly educational too so thumbs up to the staff for that. All in all great hol but lacking in the evening for us.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Flamingo Beach resort and had a great time. Our 8 year old has never made so many friends in such a short time. We stayed in a superior bungelow in C block which was spacious and had a sea view. Once you close the door you can't hear any external noise at all and it was great having our own sun loungers on the patio as it meant that we had our own space. The food was excellent and the location can not be faulted. The only negative was the entertainment which was far too loud to be pleasant, it was a shame that it was so loud as it distorted the voices of the singers, they are probably very good but the volume made their voices sound awful, this really needs addressing as it isn't fair on them as so many people commented on this. Once the Atlantic bar opened many people gave the entertainment a miss and instead went here as you could have a conversation. We really wanted to see some of the shows but couldn't face the noise. However, on a positive note the entertainment staff and the kids club staff work very hard and obviously genuinely love kids. The hotel staff in general were very friendly and helpful, our hairdryer broke on the first day and they brought another one straight away. There were some bits of information that would have been useful for the reps to have informed us about ie we didn't know that we were entitled to a free ride on the boats and could use the spa for free if you had a superior room. Also worth knowing is that there is a swap box in reception where people leave buckets and spades, lylos, rings, snorkles, nappies etc. We found this out after buying these. We booked two trips and both were quite expensive but very worth it, the texas ranch cowboy night was excellent, we tried line dancing, my husband rode the bucking broncho and there were pony rides for the kids. The volcano trip was also good and the camel ride was excellent. Most of the families were lovely and the majority of kids were well behaved. We spent most of our time at the quiet pool although the title doesn't quite reflect the reality as one can't expect kids to be silent on holiday so sometimes it was quite raucous ( although that could probably also include our child occasionally). Compared to some of the other holiday villages this is definately worth the money and the location is superb.

Room Tip: We had a C block room and the location was great, you have to walk up a short hill to the hotel and...

I was at this resort 28th May 2013 for a week and athough I am aware of the building work you are referring to I didnt seem to have experienced the same as you have. Firstly the Atlantic Bar is open and is situated next to the childrens play ground .The building of which the work was being carried out on is apparently to be a new salad and grill bar.The furniture in the road that we saw was out in the road for 6 hours until loaded up and taken away. We experienced a minimim amount of noise , no banging , no cranes , no drills, and certaintly no cement mixers. When we left 4th june the work had been near enough completed and there was certaintly no further building activity. People were lying on sunbeds around the lane pool which is underneath the building quite happily and the kids were in the splash pool. The photo you have put on with the men working shows all that area is cornered off with red tape and was only like this for a day until the white chairs and tables were put out. The only thing that bothered us slightly was the two skips in the road that we passed on the way to breakfast. However my opinion is if improvements are to be made to make it a nicer place then these things are done out of season and unfortunately May is not high season. The men also only worked in the week. We regard to the door in the room I do agree with you it is a worry but many people put chairs or even the actual sofa bed in front of the door to stop kids getting out. I do understand that your holiday was very important to you and that you had problems with the room location , I can understand you wanting to move if you were directly in front of all the work . however having been there at a similar time I do feel you have painted an unfair picture for people reading reviews deciding wether to book or not and i feel you have given the impression that it is a huge building project that is ongoing . When we left they seemed to have near enough finished it. I agree with your comments about the buffet resturant and people dropping food however the staff in there work extremely hard in cleaning up straight away any mess left. It is unfair to criticise the hotel when it is actually some of the uk visitors that leave it like that and the staff have to clean up. I am sorry to counteract your review but I do feel that some of the comments made are misleading and I have posted photos to reassure people that the building work now is minimal and seems to have been near enough finished. We had a fabulous family holiday and would recommend it to anyone with children.

Dear customers
Thank you very much. I really appreciate your review as sometimes some opinions can mislead and give a wrong picture of the truth. We have built a fantastic new Green and Grill and nearly nobody noticed we were doing that. This means that the noise and disturbance was nearly zero. Now we have a fantastic outlet that all customers will enjoy.
Thanks and regards
