Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort
Ranked #2 of 37 Hotels in Playa Blanca
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 13, 2014

We have just returned from a week in Princesa Yaiza. After all the reviews mentioning the huge presence of kids, we wondered if we had chosen the right place for our first vacation without our- now grown up- kids!

Upon our arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the warm reception. Our suitcases were immediately taken from us and brought into the hotel and we were guided to the frontdesk and offered a glass of Cava. (or if you wish water or orange juice). Our holidays had definitely begun!

The next pleasant surprise was that we were given an upgrade to a superior suite! We were even happier when we saw our room (on the fourth floor): a beautiful living room, large bedroom, hall with minibar, coffee, tea, microwave, large terrace with loungers and the enormous and beautifully decorated bathroom, with a huge bathtub and a separate shower. The toiletries were displayed on the tub, next to the shower and on the sink. No sharing minuscule toiletries here! A really de-luxe gesture. Everyday they were filled up again.

We had upgraded our halfboard to halfboard de Luxe. This meant that we got a stocked minibar everyday and that we could have dinner in all the à la carte restaurants. And they were of exquisite quality! One of them, Isla de Lobos, is close to a Michelin Star and it deserves it too! We had dinner there twice and both times were heaven. We also went twice to the Japanese Teppanyaki and it was a delicious and fun experience! The Italian restaurant, Don Giovanni, was greater the first time than the second time, but still on the whole a very nice place with good food.

We played tennis on the outside tenniscourts three times. They are like concrete courts, although we were not sure if it was really genuine concrete. I would have liked to know this on beforehand, because my claycourt shoes weren't sliding that well. Next time I will bring my indoor shoes too and see what's the best choice.

The final day was my birthday. On our arrival this was mentioned and we had been promised a bottle of Champagne on the room. Unfortunately they probably forgot, because it never arrived.

The day we left, we had a late check-out, 17.00 pm. at 10 euro per extra hour after 12.00 am. This way we could still enjoy ourselves the whole day in the hotel and freshen up before going to the airport. That was a great service.

And coming back to the topic of the kids' presence: There were indeed many young children, but funnily that never seemed to bother us! The children could play in the totally separated area 'Kikoland', next to the hotel. And near the three buffetrestaurants there's an indoor playground too which is soundproof, so, again you don't hear anything. There are two swimmingpools, one upper and one lower pool. The upper pool is warmer and most children use that one. The lower pool is a saltwater pool, not heated, and that's where most adults are. However in both pools the atmosphere is quiet. You can hear the swaying palmtrees and the birds singing. People seem to get so relaxed here that nobody shouts or whatever!

Last but not least, we had breakfast three times in the buffetrestaurants which was more than fine, but then we were informed by the Dutch PR lady that we could have à la carte breakfast in restaurant Isla de Lobos at a surplus of 3 euros pp. That's what we did the rest of the time and it was just heaven to start the day there with the beautiful view!

All the people working here give you a service with a smile. Many hotels could learn something here! This is the way to do it! It is admirable how the staff as a whole is equally service minded, from the lowest to the highest ranks. Everyone is proud of being part of this Top Class Resort.

We have had an unforgettable time in Princesa Yaiza and we can't wait to come back! Thank you very much for everything!

The Princesa Yaiza continues to improve each year for me and I highly recommend it to anyone.
It is exceptionally clean and well maintained throughout.
My only request would be for the Isla de Lobos restaurant to do a couple of vegetarian main course options as they only seemed to have one starter and we have never been able to use this restaurant.
Marina Rubicon continues to be my favourite place for walks early in the morning and in the evening too. There is a new cafe next-door to Arte De Lava (on Plaza del Sal I think) which serves great coffee, an array of teas and infusions and wonderful Italian treats such as Italian sweets, biscuits and incredible chocolate. We went almost everyday and it's a lovely place to watch the world go by and indulge in a friendly Italian atmosphere.

Room Tip: If I told you my favourite room, everyone would want to book it! ;-)

All our staff works hard every day for offer our guests a luxury experience and that’s why we have many amenities and facilities. For example, our hotel has one of the best restaurants on the Canary Islands. Our gourmet restaurant Isla de Lobos is pioneer on the introduction of the “slow food” philosophy, based on natural and local products, almost all of its products are from the Uga estate, placed on the village. The menu of the restaurant is created to conform the specific needs of each guest, and if they can’t find what they want, they always can ask our staff and they will prepare you every dish you want even if it’s not on the menu.

Sad to say it's our last day, after a glorious week and a bit at the fabulous Princess Yaiza. Our 3rd visit and honestly this place gets better and better, a previous reviewer noted the hotel appears to listen to feedback and improve, I wholeheartedly agree. Areas of frustration (eg wifi speed and some food quality issues), have been fixed and really the list of positives is endless, any negatives are minor.

Staff are very friendly, always happy to help and clearly very well trained. We found this in all areas, from reception, housekeeping, food staff and pool staff.

Food was very good, really much improved on previous visits, notably Don Giovanni. The outdoor breakfast buffet restaurant used to be plagued by sparrows, but a prowling cat has resolved that. I am sure a cat isn't to everyone's taste, but he is very friendly, well behaved and honestly much better than birds grabbing food from your plate.

Wifi now works well throughout the hotel, with few dead spots. It can be a little slow at times, but this is an island miles from anywhere, so the best it can probably be. Much improved on previous vists a year ago.

The hotel is extremely well maintained and everywhere is totally spotless, our room was thorough cleaned every day, even to mopping the floors and cleaning windows - daily!

The location is faultless, we tended to send more time in Marina Rubicon, lovely atmosphere - whereas playa blanca felt a little busy for us

*****Good coffee is hard to find on the island, you must must must visit the Illy cafe in Marina Rubicon. The owners are incredibly friendly, the coffee is wonderful, as are the wonderful chocolates, muffins and other sweet treats. Very good value for money. We went at least once a day. Open 8-10 *****

when we first arrived at the hotel we were shocked at the size of the hotel, it felt very much like a resort/club. in the past we have very much been the small boutique hotel travellers and thought we would give a larger place a try as we were travelling with our two year old.

there are certain parts of the hotel that feel very theme park- the jungle in the middle, the pirate style walkways, the very scarey kids club. on the first day we did feel intravenous alcohol might be the only way to overcome our feelings and deal with such a big place.

surprisingly we very quickly settled into the true relaxation that the hotel offers- especially to those travelling with small ones. if you are looking for rest, relaxation and totally stress free holiday- even with a toddler this place is ideal.

the rooms are set up in an arch formation and once you ditch your prejudices about big hotels actually just feel very light, spacious and airy. we had a one bed suite which was great- large living area with microwave/sink kitchenette and huge balcony and decent size bedroom- rooms on the 4th and 5th floors have better views. we had a no sea view room- but could still see the sea really well from balcony.

the service in the hotel is very impressive for the size. the staff are always friendly and really do try their best to help. nothing seems to be a problem- from changing mattresses to chats at mealtimes we actually felt they all cared!

food wise we went for the half board deluxe option which is wonderful if you want to be lazy- it includes a stocked mini bar and a la carte restaurants each evening. the large breakfast buffet- although great and very well stocked-was enough to test us each day (just very big and resort like) so we were glad the other hotel restaurants are small and more intimate feeling. we had no problems taking our two year old to the incredible gourmet restaurants Isla de lobos or the Japanese kampai and the food and service really was excellent- and didn't feel like being in a big resort style hotel.

the hotel pools are great and big enough that you don't hear too many screaming children- other than your own. the beach in front of the hotel is sandy and not to crowed. you can eat near to the hotel but the restaurants within walking distance are certainly no better- if not generally a lot worse that Lobos/kampai.

by the end of the week we were even dancing along to the songs sung by kiko- an oversize yellow duck with a mohican, who makes children scream with either delight or utter terror when he appears at breakfast or at the daily children's disco.

although we have no doubt that smaller hotels will still be our travel favourite, we do plan to return to princesa yaiza. the staff, the food, the feeling of space and the massive amount of activities on offer made this a very relaxing week and a real holiday.

we stayed here over the Easter holidays, we turned up without a booking and the reservation staff in the foyer could not have been more helpful. It was full but they found us a room which was excellent-bedroom, lounge, large bathroom, balcony everything would could expect from a top rated hotel--it's not cheap especially over Easter but you get what you pay for. This is the best hotel and location on Lanzarote and maybe the whole Canary islands, walk out of the hotel across a promenade and onto a very nice beach. All the food was very good, breakfast-everything you could possibly want, lunch by the pool and the restaurants in the evening, we used Don Giovanni in the courtyard 3 times, all excellent. We are of a certain age and everything is very close by, turn left and walk 10mins to the marina turn right and walk along the prom past numerous shops and restaurants. We had a great time here all members of the staff were welcoming and although 5 star it never felt stuffy or "posh". Cant praise it enough would definitely return and would recommend highly.
