“5* but could be a 6 with a few improvements”
Reviewed November 9, 2013

We stayed at Princesa Yaiza for a week at the end of October for the half term holidays. When we arrived around 3pm we were disappointed to find that our room wasn't ready. The receptionist did not seem overly bothered by this and told us to go and have a look around and she would call us back to the reception area when it was ready. As checkout is 12pm, there was no reason why the room shouldn't have been ready, we had had a long day already and just wanted to get changed and unpack. The welcome pack that we were given was missing a towel card (should be one per person in my mind, we were only given 2) and the information about the gym and classes in the hotel which I had to go back for later. Also during the holiday we had problems with the key cards not working which we had to got back down to reception for.
When we finally got to the room (junior suite B541) we were very impressed. The sea view was great as we were on the 5th floor, the room was big with a small area for food prep. (microwave, sink, large fridge), the twin beds were big with a firm mattress and pillows, 2 sinks in the bathroom, fantastic toiletries (razor, toothbrushes, comb, nail kit etc.) The one disappointment was the 4 tea bags that we got in the room to last us a week as yet again, you would have to pay extra from room service if you wanted any more! Our holiday certainly wasn't cheap and we were annoyed that the hotel was being so penny pinching as to ration teabags!
After unpacking we explored the hotel. The pool was very cold and did not get much warmer throughout the holiday due to the weather and them not being heated. (N.B If the weather is a bit cool there is not indoor pool for the children, just the adults only pool in the spa which is extra). The Kikoland club is separate to the hotel, 5 mins walk towards the marina (20mins form hotel). Kikoland is the best kids club I have ever seen with a park area for different ages, tennis courts, football courts, pool area and a big theatre. Our 6 year old daughter had a great time and we would have been lost without it as there is only the beach which is right outside the hotel as an alternative activity for children. The marina and the port are near enough but too far for little legs so a pram is needed for younger ones. I was told by one of the guests that you can hire prams for around 4 euros a day.
The hotel is very big and it took us a couple of days to find everything as it is not well signposted, for instance, to get to the gym from reception, you have to go down one level (there are no signs for it in reception I had to ask), take a right past a lounge area and through a tunnel (which has some very nice aquariums on the left) until you get to the indoor games room on the right towards D block (for families) and walk right to the end where it is through an arched doorway. Phew! If you don't like stairs or walking very much, don't come to this hotel, we certainly got our exercise!
We never ate in the hotel as it was too expensive but there is a great hiperdino right outside the hotel for food and drinks, as well as one in the marina and a amongst the shops around the port. Breakfast was ok but not a good at it should have been for a 5 star hotel. There was very little fruit, fish, no caviar, no feta cheese, no salad bar a few pieces of lettuce. Even the cooked breakfast did not look very appetising. Their water gave me an upset stomach for a few days, so I would advise sticking to the bottled water if possible.
The computers cost extra to use which was frustrating as the WiFi only worked outside and not in our room. Hence we couldn't get our emails properly for a few days.
Another disappointment was that there was no DVD player in the room, even though the shop rents out DVDs for free in the shop downstairs. Apparently it is only the rooms in D block that get the DVD players, otherwise you have to hire them for 30 euros a week.
Overall a great family hotel, but desperately needs a heated indoor pool for children to use, along with DVD players in the Junior suites.

Room Tip: Our room B541 was facing the sea and got the sun all day. However quite noisy with kids running up a...

We have returned today after 7 nights at the princesa yaiza. we stayed in in d block. We had a royal kiko suite and felt thoroughly spoilt as soon as we arrived. Excellent cava upon check in and our suitcases were taken up to our room. Elke took us to our suite and showed us around. The kids loved her and she answered any questions we had. Fab! The suite was palatial and very clean. All toiletries were included and replenished each day along with the kids mini bar. Get in! At first i thought it would be a problem being detatched from the main hotel. but it was only a short walk and we had the best pool. The breakfast was exceptional (more cava at breakfast) and we ate a few times at the snack bar by our pool from the room service menu. That too was delicious and very reasonably priced. I recommend the chefs salad. The pools are very cold as said by previous reviews but by day 3 I plucked up the courage to swim. It was quite refreshing to cool off as it was still hot when the sun was out. The pools are very clean and it was fun to use the inflatables that the hotel provided. Don't buy any!!! My girls aged 4 and 6 used the kids club once and seemed to enjoy it but then wanted to stay with us by the pool the rest of the time which was a shame as I feel they missed out on all the fun. The staff seemed very committed in ensuring the kids had a great time. I will definately recommend this hotel and I would love to return again. It was the best holiday I've had. My 6 year old cried when we left. It was worth paying a bit more for this hotel.

Just returned last night after a week visit there (31/10-7/11). Weather wasn't too bad however did have one day of rain. We were located in block C with a partial sea view and pool view. Suite was nice with a large bedroom plus nice living area. Staff were very helpful and kept the place spotless. We were on half board and as usual were anxious what the food would be like however we had nothing to worry about - the buffet Yaiza was excellent with lots of choice! Even for my 1 year old son. Full marks to the team for that. It can be quite noisy with the tiles in the rooms so you hear even people moving chairs or in my case a very amorous couple downstairs which continued to wake me most evenings!!!!!!! Not pleasant at all !!!!!!!! My only main criticism would be the pool for various reasons.
1. People were hogging loungers from early morning. There is a rule that you shouldn't do that but it was not enforced which meant by later in the morning people were wandering around looking for space. I saw several loungers which no-one sat at but had towels down. Not good.
2. The two main pools are suppost to be heated - well if they are heated I am Marilyn Munroe! They were freezing!!! Even the kids were playing in the warm spa pools!
3. The tiles around the pool side are looking dated, cracked in lots of places and are uneven. I tripped several times over uneven and crumbling slabs. This needs addressed for health and safety reasons.

Ive visited 5* resorts before and although this was a lovely place and would possibly visit again, I didn't feel the 5* warranted it. More a 4*.

Room Tip: Block C seems to be the best - ask for a pool view and for floors 2 or 3

Dear guest,

Thanks for choosing the Princesa Yaiza Hotel & Resort, and for sharing your experience with us.
Regarding the loungers, we’re working hard for finish with the sunbeds problem. We’re very involved in change this problem and we’re sure that you will enjoy so much your next visit.
Regarding the temperature of the pools, we try to keep them warm, but due to the pool rules, we can’t heat the pools over 26ºC, and sometimes the climatology plays us a trick, especially on this season of the year. That’s the reason why the thermal sensation is cooler. We take this opportunity to remind you that in Princesa Yaiza you could find Kikoland, a thematic area dedicated to children, a perfect place for childs.

We went to Princess Yaiza during October half term with our 8 year old daughter. I was attracted by the facilities including rave reviews for the Kids Club and lots of entertainment as well as being close to a resort. The location is fabulous - we loved the Marina and ate out there most evenings - usually after a drink watching the sunset from the Cafe Del Mar - gorgeous views over the harbour.

Having stayed in a couple of amazing 5 star all inclusive resorts in Turkey I knew what to expect and wasn't disappointed although the breakfast buffets were sometimes a little chaotic and another omelette station in each restaurant might have helped. The welcome was great and our room was ideal with a separate living area turned into a sofa bed for our daughter and a huge bathroom.

The only downside to the hotel was the temperature in the pools - on a couple of days the weather was a little overcast and it wasn't pleasant to be in and out of the pool as it was so cold - my daughter came out shivering with blue lips on one occasion. We weren't the only ones to comment so maybe end of October should be the start of the pool heating, not mid November?

We didn't eat in the hotel as there are so many great restaurants in the Marina or on the Promenade in Playa Blanca - much cheaper and with lovely sea or harbour views. We would recommend all that we went to - El Mirador, Lani's, Aphrodite and El Casa - but if you want an outside table it's best to book in advance.

While we were there they had a Halloween themed dinner which I have to say was brilliant! The animation team did a fantastic job and we all had a great time. Unfortunately my daughter didn't want to go to the kids club so we can't comment on that but it looked well organised and all the kids seemed to have a great time.

We also did the walk up the volcano behind the resort - highly recommended, not too strenuous but careful if its windy at the top - I'm a little scared of heights!

Room Tip: We were in block C - floor 4 - same level as reception- overlooking the sports complex and kids club...

Dear guest,

Thank you for sharing with us your experience at the Princesa Yaiza, we are happy to see that you´ve enjoyed the hotel with your family.

Thank you for letting us know about the swimming pool´s temperatura, we´ll take note of this comment, it´s not easy to have very warm water due to health and hygienic reasons, we have to follow the legal instructions for the wáter temperature and, maybe, if the weather is a little bit colder outside you can feel more cold, too. But we´ll check it, of course.

I´m really happy to see that you enjoyed our Halloween thematic family dinner, all the staff of the hotel worked really hard to do the best for every guest that day.

We hope to receive you and your family very son at the hotel,

This is some luxury hotel, its absolutely huge I sometimes got lost in it. Huge rooms overlooking the pools and sea. Excellent and friendly staff. Breakfast was very good, did try the isla de lobos restaurant but was too fancy for me. Great location in front of beach and a short walk into Playa Blanca. Sport facilities were very good, I used the gym and tennis courts. Hotel is expensive to stay but that's what pay for luxury I guess.

We've just come back from our 9th holiday at the Princesa Yaiza. We've visited each October half term with our children (2 boys now 8 and 11) and always have a great time. The hotel setting is ideal, lovely beach out front with calm sea, great well lit promenade with a 10 minute walk to a marina and 5 minute walk to the small town of Playa Blanca. The hotel is large and spacious. Very well run and managed. Staff are helpful and very friendly. We choose a 1 bedroom sea view suite close to the beach exit. The room has a large main bedroom, a lounge with 2 sofa's that turn down into proper beds. The bathroom is lovely and spacious with walk in shower and large separate bath. The rooms have lovely decor, nice balcony, comfortable furniture and they are extremely clean. The breakfasts offering is wide suiting adults and children's tastes.

The only disadvantage to note is that the pools are not heated (common in Lanzarote). The pools are very clean, good number of beds and close to everything though. The beach has beds and a well run beach bar cafe which we tend to frequent more than the pool as we like the sea and the children like digging or playing ball on the beach.

Kikoland children's club is next door and offers various children's activities including football morning coaching and tennis. We haven't used the kids club so can't comment. We did use the small soft play area in the hotel when the children were small, this opens for an hour in the morning and an hour early evening, convenient to alternate showers or even leave them and have a quick drink.

Playa Blanca is a small town which has a good choice of supermarkets, restaurants, a couple of bars (nothing noisy). It's well kept friendly resort, no hard sales at restaurants, no drunk young adults or parties just a nice resort.

Would recommend the hotel and resort without hesitation. Thank you for another lovely stay and holiday to everyone at Princesa Yaiza.

Room Tip: Various types of rooms are available. Different tour operators book different rooms. One bedroom su...

Have just returned from 6 nights at this hotel. My children are well travelled as am I but this comes out as one of the best hotels we have stayed at. It's not perfect but for families with children you could not choose a better hotel with all the kid friendly staff , activities and entertainment on offer.
Kiko land is the best all the staff work so hard.you leave your children knowing they are safe and well cared for.
I am already planning to rebook
As soon as flights become available
We booked B AND B but perhaps will consider half board next time.
simply because there are great restaurants located close by but by the time you have got ready and rushed out when all the kids want to do is go to kids disco and shows it is easier to get changed eat in hotel and carry on.
Great holiday we will be back very soon
