Some of the tourist guidebooks to Lanzarote describe this hotel as "faded glory", so we were very pleasantly surprised that there is nothing faded about the hotel at all. So here are our perceptions of the positive and negative features of our stay there....

Positives:
1. Location is superb. Quiet, great views, ability to stroll along the esplanade for miles.
2. Room was ideal (apart from one small niggle - room 268 is very close to the side door to the dining room and kitchen, so a lot of clattering of dishes at times but it certainly didn't continue after about 9.30 so not a real problem)
3. Staff were first class. The restaurant staff in particular were friendly, efficient, professional and entertaining
4. Food was varied and absolutely fine. Obviously, as with most tourist hotels these days, buffet service has its limitations but there was a good range of foods at dinner and breakfast. There was a counter at both meals where food could be cooked fresh (meat or fish griddled in the evening and pancakes, omelettes and British style bacon at breakfast. When we holidayed in Tenerife a few months ago, the "fruit juice" at breakfast was undrinkable (powdered, I suspect) but here you could drink freshly blended eg orange and banana or water melon and orange.
5. Also in the restaurant, it was great that a dress code was enforced. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but you could have the best hotel in the world but if people saunter in to dinner wearing scabby beach shorts, it is always going to drag the image of the hotel down.
6. We are not that fond of lying beside the pool but the hotel did enforce a sunbed policy and that seemed to work really well. On the couple of occasions when we decided to sit at the pool, there were beds available in both sun and shade and there are notices up pointing out that there are sufficient to cater for all guests, which seemed to be the case.
7. The island is amazing and there is so much to do. Dinner at El Diablo was a great tour and the meal was so much better and more substantial than I had expected. We also did the trip to Teguise Market, which was interesting, and a tour of the North which lasted all day and was fascinating.

The trivial negative:
Just one - the wifi is rubbish. It is no real inconvenience to get a new code each day (although not sure why it is necessary) but although the signal appeared to be high throughout the day, the only time we could realistically log on was between 7 and 8am - although I have to say it was really fast and efficient then. The rest of the time it looked as though you were logged on but nothing happened. Interestingly, though, we managed to get wifi in our room, whereas it is supposed to be only in area near reception.

The serious negative:
We only booked for one week. They shouldn't allow you to do that ;-)
I'm not sure what was going through our mind when we booked but it was probably based on slightly negative recent experiences in hotel in Tenerife. Would definitely go back for two weeks next time, perhaps resolving to lounge around the hotel every second day rather than go on expeditions. And we would certainly come back to this hotel. When on holiday, we often glance at other hotels and consider whether they would be better than where we are but I have to say we would stick with this one. We might consider all-inclusive next time, as the quality of generic drinks seemed to be fine.

Well done, Timanfaya Palace :-)

Room Tip: 268 has a sea view with nice balcony but is noisy at mealtimes. Can't speak about any of the other rooms.

Had another fantastic holiday at this hotel, we just cannot get enough of this hotel, it's lovely.
Lots to eat and drink with plenty of variety and the staff are great, they work so hard to give you a great holiday. We cannot wait to book again for next year.

Room Tip: Higher floors for better views

We have just retuned from a honeymoon here, we arrived 2 hours late only to find our room was not ready, we where privilege guests but we were not directed to the privilege desk and not offered a drink as was promised in the brochure :-( but after a late lunch we were finally sent to our room and must say it was perfect, very clean and comfortable and keep that way. We did enjoy our stay and have returned very relaxed, the food was excellent in all bars and restaurants but we should mention the cocktails, they were well presented but did not taste good and were rarely consistent, this didn't put us off thought and we would probably return in the future.

just returned from our honeymoon here. couldn't fault it. great location, excellent food, bottle of bubbly left in our room [ thanks sara and louise the tomson reps, who were brilliant] pool was cold but o k when you got used to it. lovely promenade to ride bikes along and i recommend a trip to timanfaya nat park where you can have chicken cooked by the heat of the volcano. staff very friendly and good nightime entertainment. will try to go back for our 1st anniversary and very quiet with no children there.

Spent a week here in March 2013. We arrived at 9:30pm and were soon checked in and had a cold dinner, as we were late arriving.

Room was really modern with balcony and was quiet, overlooking the pool.

The pool area was really smart with two pools however they were not heated. There seemed to be alot of older couples there, which were up at the crack of dawn to reserve sun beds even when there was notices to say you couldn't which was a bit annoying.

Food was excellent with themed evenings mexican, chinese etc.

All I would say is that the hotel would be better of it was a family hotel to just liven the atmosphere a bit.

Overall an excellent stay and would return again.
