“Amazing Value for Money”
Reviewed February 20, 2014

Had a wonderful week here at the beginning of January. Incredible value for money and excellent facilities. Nothing too much trouble. Wouldn't recommend the free A la carte evening. Very poor quality, cold uninspiring food. Stick to the main restaurants. Excellent otherwise.

Room Tip: Want quiet? Go the opposite side to the children's complex

I returned last week from a 2 week holiday at the Rubicon Palace hotel and thooght I might share some of my experiences with you.
The hotel is located at the southern end of Lanzarote approx. 4km from Playa Blanca. The is no beach to hand so it is ideal for those who like to centre their sun bathing around the many swimming pools on the site.
It is a large hotel occupying a large site. The entrance is on level 6, the meeting rooms and disco on level 4 and the two main restaurants on the ground floor. There are two lifts for those who find stairs a difficulty. There are another two reataurants at other locations on the site.
There are two types of accommodation - standard and prestige (for which you pay a bit more). We were in a standard room which was on level 5 overlooking the main pool and was quite spacious and well equipped with a great selection of toiletries which were replenished daily. Beds were made up every day and towels changed as required. Cleanliness within the hotel and grounds is of a very high standard.
We were on an all inclusive board basis and we could use two self service, buffet style restaurants. Within each restaurant there was an area where fresh food is prepared and served - e.g. eggs of all sorts at breakfast.
The availability and standard of food quality was very high and even the fussiest of eaters could find something to satisfy their needs.
Throughout the hotel, the staff at all levels were extremely helpful, friendly courteous. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

All in all, a cracking stay at a cracking hotel and great value for money!

We stayed in the Rubicon Palace for the third time and since our last vist there have been some improvements - the reception area has been redecorated and there is now a dedicated restaurant for adults if you want to avoid children.

We stayed on an all inclusive package which is excellent value for money - the standard of food in the hotel is the usual buffet fare, but of good quality and plentiful. Drinks measures are generous and mixers are branded (Scheweppes, Nordic Mist).

This is a large hotel complex so if you don't like walking to breakfast, don't stay here or make sure you ask for a room closer to the restaurant. The advantage of the set up is plenty of space and as a result the bedrooms are roomy and there is a lot of choice where to sit to get your tan!

This year kettles were placed in the bedrooms (but not bottled water or sachets of tea or coffee?) If you are on an all inclusive you can take your water bottle into the restaurant and filll it up.

English channels include BBC World, CNN, Disney, CBS Action and CBS Adventure - which is better than the standard fare. WIFI is not in your room unless you are on the Privilege Package and only available in the foyer. The signal is poor!

If you are staying for longer than a week, opposite the Natura Palace hotel is a launderette and a small supermaket. Next to the hotel are a small selection of restaurants and we would recommend the early bird Indian menu at 8.95 Euros if you are looking for a change.

On the all inclusive package you are offered one night in a restaurant by the pool offering a set meal - again this makes a nice change and the food is of a good standard. You should book this as soon as you arrive as the restuarant has two sittings and is booked up 4-5 days in advance.

The complex is a good 30 minutes walk from Playa Blanca but has a coastal path in front of the hotel - if you are looking for a relaxing and quiet break, then this is the hotel for you.

I was badly bitten by mosquitoes whilst we were there so remember to bring your creams and sprays!

Room Tip: Most of the rooms are in two storey buildings - the upper storey tends to be better to catch the sun...

We have just returned from another great four week stay at the Rubicon.
The food and drink is brilliant, the hotel is clean, the staff all through the hotel are polite, friendly and helpful.
We were given a room with a beautiful sea view and because we joined the H10 club a few years ago we were given a gift on arrival, a bottle of cava, free paper everyday, dressing gowns, slippers, chocolates, every evening our bed was turned down with a weather report for the next day, fresh towels were put in our room every night even though we were given clean towels when the maids cleaned the room in the morning, all extra little luxuries.
We would recommend this hotel for excellent value for your money.

Room Tip: If you like to be quite ask for a room out on the perimeter.

I think some people who post reviews on here must be used to 5 star hotels. We thought the Rubicon Palace was really good, our room was fantastic and though we didn't pay for a sea view we got one! It was big and roomy with big balcony. The food was excellent with plenty of choice and a couple of themed nights. The wine was of very good quality, we tended to eat in the adult only restaurant. It is a long way out of Playa Blanca but we enjoyed the walks along the sea front and you don't have to leave the complex if you don't want to, though taxis are really cheap, 3 and half Euro into Playa Blanca. We liked the piano bar in the evening as did most other people as it was hard to get a seat! We are definitely going to go back!

Stayed for a week at the h10 Rubicon palace, would rate it as a 4 Star, nice bright rooms, we had an amazing sea view which showed the beautiful orange sunset every night. Food good, well cooked, good variety, drinks varied to. Staff all very polite and friendly. Negatives were- pools very cold, too cold to swim in, beds in rooms very hard and uncomfortable, no bottles of water given out in bars for all inclusive or left in rooms, just a self service tap in restaurants to fill up your own bottles. No proper beach next to hotel, just rocks. Pool towels charge of 50 cents for a clean one! Very quiet and relaxing holiday for couples, would go back but in the summer when it's warmer!

Just returned from the Rubicon Palace, lovely hotel, nice friendly staff, clean. Food was great, make sure you go to the Italian restaurant, for your courtesy meal, you get one go per holiday. Go to the adult restaurant if you are without kids it is much quieter.
As for the Privelege package, don't bother. The rooms may be a bit better, but the food and drink are the same. A lot of Privelege guests were in the main buffet because they liked choosing themselves rather than pick from a menu, you can go back then again if you make the wrong choice, maybe when the hotel is full of families it may be nice to have a quiet meal, but you don't want to be the only few in there.
My only real disapointment with the hotel is the FREEZING POOLS, you just cannot swim, which I think most people like to do on holiday. There are five lovely pools, the largest I have ever seen. They say one is heated, but you would never know. You can go in the thalasso centre and swim in the warm, it is nice if you get a dull day, that costs 10euros, if you like to swim it is worth paying for a few it works out cheaper.
We hired a car, which we picked up at the airport, it only cost 108 euros for 11days, we put in 40euros of fuel, we went out everyday, saw the whole island, so easy to get around, we never got lost, saved so much money on trips, we drove to all the sites and saved a fortune, one trip, say to the Timafaye mountain from the reps, nearly cost the price of the car for 11days, so give it a go. The top of the island is well worth a visit. There is a lovely Miradoor. And small sandy beaches, worth a look.
