Reviewed July 10, 2007

We were a party of 13 and arrived at the Paradise Island Hotel on the 21st June 2007 for 2 weeks All Inclusive holiday.
We were given apartments facing the sea which although not spotless, were fairly clean and spacious. We had no complaints with the rooms.
The restaurant was a disaster zone, it was a free for all getting a table. Which there was not enough of and consequently people had to queue for some time to get one.
On getting to the table you then had to trapes around and find cutlery, napkins, glasses etc as this was not done by the staff. They often ran out of various items so you had to stand around until they decided to bring some more out.
The table cloths were left on the tables for 6 days without being cleaned, and the food debris was just brushed onto the chairs and the floor with a duster, this meant you had to clean the chair before you could sit down.
The food was adequate for a 3 star hotel, what was not acceptable was that they kept running out of food, and after complaining we were told that it was due to "greedy" Spanish people staying at the hotel.
We were sat having breakfast one morning and a very large cockroach landed on the table, cockroaches were also seen on a daily basis in the restaurant toilets.
You do expect to see cockroaches in hot countries such as Lanzarote, but not in food areas.
The outside pool bar was a disgrace, the furnature was falling to pieces, 2 of the chairs collapsed when people sat on them.
By 8.45am all sunbeds had towels on, we complained and were told to take them off ourselves.
There was no pool attendant.
We did this on one occassion, and when the people arrived (lunchtime , it was 4 Italian men) they threatened to throw one of our party in the pool. As we were an all female group apart from children/grandchildren we decided it was to risky to do it again.
The advertised snacks which were available consisted of dry bread and wafer thin ham, plus sponge cake. That was it !!. No hotdogs, hamburgers, salad etc which we have been used to on other all inclusive holidays.
This bar also closed at 6pm.
The entertainment area was far to small for the number of people using it, there was approx 200 people and the room held about 150.
No air conditioning, so it was stifling hot and stank of sweaty bodies and mould.
There was only 1 barman on every night until 10pm then a 2nd person arrived, this was to serve everyone in the room.
This meant that we had to stand in a queue for 15-20 mins every time we wanted a drink.
Whilst stood in the queue one night , the lady in front got her drinks, and as she picked them up a large cockroach landed in one of them. This lady demanded to be moved out of the hotel, and left the next day.
During the 2 weeks we were there we were told of at least 2 other occassions when cockroaches had landed in peoples drinks.
If we went to the toilet, the passage off the room was flooded with water every night, we did complain but were told it was from the laundry room and they did nothing about it.
The bar often ran out of soft drinks, and also water.
The hotels water supply broke down on at least 5 occassions whilst we were there, and once it was off for over 3 hours. We had to go out to lunch as the restaurant could not open until the water came back on.
We did ask our representative if we could move hotels on the second day, but low and behold they did not have any spaces at an equivalent hotel.
They magically did have spaces if we wanted to upgrade and pay another £250 each, this smacks of "making money out of peoples misery".
As some of the people in our part could not afford to pay the suppliment, we had to stay and make the most of what we had.
This hotel was woefully understaffed for the number of people staying there, and couldnt cope.
It was patently obvious that this hotel was not managed correctly, which was a real shame as it had such potential.

We are a couple with a one year old daughter, we spent a week here on all-inclusive from the 14th-21st June. The price was very good indeed. Being a three-star hotel, of course the quality was nothing like 5-star resorts we have previously stayed at in the Caribbean, but for what we got it was remarkable value.

It's important to realise that this hotel's guests are multinational, with Spaniards being the single largest nationality when we were there (most of whom seemed to be pensioners!) Therefore you cannot expect the food choice to be roast dinners or pie and mash. If you go to Spain, is it not unreasonable to expect some Spanish food?

It seems that many other guests single out breakfast, probably because things are on offer like runner beans and chips. However, for those with more conventional English tastes, there were fried and scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon and baked beans on offer. Portions of Spanish omelette also went down well, and of course there were always bread / croissants / yoghurts / cereals available. The one thing that was not so good were the fruit juice dispensing machines; they served lukewarm, poor tasting juice, and for most of our stay pressing the pineapple juice button would give you a glass of water, leaving orange as the only choice.

The lunch and dinner choices were consistently good, there was always at least one meat option in addition to fish. Plenty of cold meats and salads were available, and the dessert choices were very good. However some things were noticeably recycled from one meal to the next (the same dessert coming out a meal later with a few hundreds and thousands sprinkled on them to make it look different) - but these were untouched trays that hadn't been out so were still fresh enough to use.

The chinese buffet was open for 5 nights during the week, basicaly on the nights that the main restaurant wasn't doing a Canarian or Italian theme night. To call it a buffet though, is slightly flattering - each time we went there was a choice of two meat dishes, as well as rice and noodles. It was very nice though.

The swimming pools were lovely but could have done with a little heating. Towards the latter half of our stay there was the old problem of guests reserving sunbeds with their towels; when we turned up there was none available with an umbrella for us to shade our toddler daughter who was sleeping. As with virtually everywhere else I've stayed, if only the rule (quite clearly marked) that you can't reserve, was enforced!

The week was also slightly blighted by a group of 30 or so Spanish students who generally caused a nuisance in the pool area late every afternoon by bombing, pushing each other in, and making a lot of noise. They were also throwing stones at the playground from their balconies when my daughter was playing, which stopped when I shouted at them.

Overall, we were very impressed with the hotel. The room, public areas and grounds were clean and well maintained, the guests (with the above exception) were pleasant and quiet, and the early evening entertainment was particularly enjoyed by my daughter (full marks to the mini-disco!)

Having just returned from this hotel I thought I would write and say what a great time we had. The rooms were clean, the staff were always very helpful and the pool area was lovely and well kept. I had been ill and really wanted a quiet time in the sun and this venue suited us perfectly.

I would not recommend it for people wanting to have a lively time as it suits couples and families.

Only let down was the food. I am a fussy eater and lived on chips and bread. If you like fish you are OK. Breakfast was awful and we ended up eating in our room most of the time. Such a pity for this to be a let-down when everything else was so good.

im 15 and have just returned from this holiday, all inc....i loved the hotel very much...the rooms were big and clean and you always felt safe. the pools were always clean (but very cold ) and the staff were very friendly. the food at the hotel let it down alot...mainly breakfast, with some very strange options...we ended up eating out a lot. the entertainment staff animacion were abslolty great. the holiday woudnt have been the same without them...they were always happy and welcomed everyone...regardless of your speaking language...the kiddies club was very good. my younger cousin (aged 5) loved going the the club...they played games, painted and made things...there were severall times when children ages 4-12 could go off with the staff and have fun. the night time entertain was a bif of a let down...we ended up leaving the shows early due to bordom...a lot of people didnt stay very long..there was a disco afterwards but becasue the bar closed at 11 you had to get your drinks in ready...i didnt let this spoil my holiday because i still had an excellent time. i would recommend this hotel for anyone who isnt really a fussy eater

We have just returned from Paradise Island Aparthotel in Lanzarote. We stayed for a week on All Inclusive option and had a really great week. Not only was the weather in the 70's but the accommodation and food were also to a high standard. We had only seen pictures of the hotel on the internet , so did not know what to expect, but were very pleasantly suprised. My fiance had never been to Lanzarote before, so it was important that the place was nice.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner menu's were varied, with the chinese restaurant being open 2 nights a week. Reception staff were welcoming and and the entertainment staff did there job well.
I would imagine in peak season that this hotel is very busy, however when we were there it was full for part of the time.

I would recommend this hotel to others, and would go again at this time of year, but if we were to go in peak time, we would choose the Half Board option, to allow us more flexibilty.
