“Excellent holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014

Warm welcome, great slides and a warm pool made for a lovely family holiday between Christmas and new year. We had read all of the bad reviews and were a little worries but we had two excellent & clean apartments, the food was good with plenty of choice for the whole family & the pools and slides were great fun. Not sure what people expect but I would stay there again and certainly found the staff helpful and didn't notice any shortages.

Room Tip: A room away from the pool bar is quieter.

I was unbelievably nervous on the transfer from the airport as the reviews I had read were terrible! I can honestly say that I believe the negative reviews to be very unfair!!!!!
We stayed (2 adults & 3 children) on 2nd Jan for a week. We had 2 one bedroom apartments next to eachother in a perfect position near the pools (room 401 is on the corner and a little sun trap). Our bed was fine, as was the apartment and our request for more pillows was instant!! You do not need the remote for the tv for it to work. We didn't pay deposits for anything but I believe you can. There was only one pool that was heated but it was fine and we swam every day.. kids loved it!! The Dino park was great and we had lots of fun on the slides!! We took the free bus to and from the beach (a taxi is only 3.40 euros) and had a fabulous day at the stunning beach. The Rubican marina was fabulous too!!!! We never ate out as we found the food more than adequate. . So much to choose from and the staff worked extremely hard clearing tables. The Chinese wasn't as good as the Italian but it's nice to have a change!! The mexican night was my fav...awesome!!! My daughter is vegetarian and when she asked they made sure she had dishes to eat! Drinks were good.. maybe not top quality alcohol but it went down ok!! You could help yourself to wine, beer and soft drinks! ! The pool bar was ok too and the afternoon toasties and cakes were always popular as well as the dinnertime pizza and burgers!! My little uns enjoyed getting icecream every day too. The two teams of entertainment staff worked really hard and were very friendly! ! My kids went to the kids club and did some painting. Next to the kids club there is a little sandy park and play area. There were activities around the pool every day. We always joined in with the club dance around the pool! We enjoyed playing bingo every night and the parrot and reptile shows were good! Every member of staff working here were hardworking and friendly and we had a brilliant relaxing holiday. . The staff on reception were wonderful and I really hope that people stop being so negative about this hotel as I don't think it deserves such bad reviews.

You get what you pay for! So the dated rooms, 80% of sun beds broken/damaged and limited evening entertainment were not much of a surprise. But the lack of staff was a total shock....
Like most, the only time we really needed staff was in the evenings.
The lobby bar: one member of staff, even New Year's Eve, the queue exceeded a 25 minute wait at times, to then be served in small plastic beakers as the the glasses were not clean.
The restaurant: food as to be expected and fresh but again, no staff. Tables uncleared, food on the floor and not enough tables.
As for the evening entertainment, which was located in what we nicknamed 'The Dungeon', I cannot comment as we refused to enter, it was always full to the brim. I would estimate that it could only accommodate 25-30% of the hotel guests.
I cannot fault any of the front line staff, except one girl in the Italian restaurant, think she is related to management as she felt she didn't need to work whilst the rest of the front line staff individually undertook the work of three or more persons.
Basically, my impression is that the hotel is not geared up to AI but has been adapted to be such. The management also need to review the staffing situation of an evening.

After reading the varying reviews I was slightly concerned about what the hotel would be like. We as a family prefer the smaller hotels and it was our first experience of an all inclusive hotel.we stayed over the new year period.

Check in at reception was efficient and we received a warm welcome. Friends showed us to our rooms Which were situated behind the pool bar and disco.

The rooms are basic but clean. A few maintenance issues the bathroom door stuck and the balcony door squeaked. A minor annoyance. They are cleaned five days out of seven. The great thing for us was a proper door that you can lock from the inside as well as the outside to prevent my daughter with autism from escaping. It mean't that we could relax knowing she was safe.

The dining room has its issues, at peak times the place resembles a bear garden with people scrambling for tables and food. However we tended to eat early to accommodate my daughter who dislikes noise and commotion and therefore found that we could always find a table and that the food was always hot and well presented. There is plenty of choice and they cater for everybody. The new year gala dinner was excellent. We avoided the pool bar because the food was mainly fried and not to our taste.

The usual sun bed bagging goes on but that did not matter because we were always up early! We regularly saw the man washing the pool area and deckchairs down in the morning. some of the paving slabs were cracked and sharp under foot. We stayed at the pool until the water park opened at 10.30.

Both children loved the water park and went down the slides many times into freezing cold water. The lifeguards were excellent. It was nice to see that alcohol was not available at the park although a few people thought it was ok to bring their own and used glasses instead of plastic cups.

On the whole we had a good experience, There were of course people there who thought that it was acceptable to allow their children to be noisy late at night and there were a few people who thought it was ok to sing football songs at 2.00 in the morning. My eldest son thoroughly enjoyed a bike ride to see the dormant volcano on his birthday. Excellent service from Marcus the owner of the bike rentals. We did not use the gym and the sauna was broken. We would definitely return to the hotel. i was pleasantly surprised.

This is the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed at.Not only is it like a retirement home for lost cats, it's own personal standard is way below par. I don't expect 4star in a 3star but what I do expect is a standard that is of normal cleanliness, but I don't think this establishment knew existed!!!!!!! Poor quality from start to finish and if you don't mind coming away with an infection then please book your next stay, I'm sure you will be accommodated!

Don't be put off by any bad reviews for this hotel. From start to finish our holiday was fab. I will satrt with reception, on arrival smiley friendly face welcoming us to the hotel and asking for our booking reference (we booked with travel republic). Got the key and all infromation we needed and yes you pay a deposit for the safe key and remote control but you egt it back no probelms so not sure what other peoples probelm is with this. We got a ground floor apartment and we prefer a second floor so i went back to reception, no probelm changed it straight away and the safe key. the rooms are clean but are a little bit basic, normal self catering accomodation not hotle rooms. Plently of hot water even on a cloudy day and cleaned regularly. The restaurant can be busy but the staff work hard to keep tables clean and re set, after a day or so you can get the timing right and as a family with grown up children we like to ahve a nice relaxed eveing meal and sit at the table for some time this was ot a problem if we ate at about 8.15-8.30pm. The food choice is massive and i defy anyone to say otherwise, it was hot also and plentiful right up to the end of service. Yes the bar in the lobby arae could be busy but only a few minutes to wait for a drink which were served in proper glasses. New years Eve was great, live music and fireworks, we opted for the champagne bar at extra cost whihc had a reseved table and a balcony to view fireworks and you could see then all across the bay. The location was good, ony 15 min walk to beach but there was a bus every hour which we used to come back on.
Please take on board my comments and don't be put off by ohers i expect a high standard of food and service and for a busy hotel i could not fault this. One thing i must add though and don't want to appear snobby but the only thing that is a negative is large groups and british holidaymakers that drop rubbish to the floors, sing and chant football songs whilst drinking all day by pool bar and swear and curse at there chilldren but not a lot the hotel could do about that. WE stayed clear of the dico/entertainment bar and sat in the lobby bar and on the verdandas and had a fabulous holiday.

Room Tip: We had room 518 whihc was down a path by a side entrance to the water park it was quiet and away fro...

My husband and i have just returned from a week at this hotel. The negativity is unbelievable. Our apartment was spacious, clean in a sunny position with plenty hot water.
I would agree its not 4star and the intercontinental restaurant was hectic at times, with not enough staff or tables for the amount of guests . The food was amazing you just could not fault the variety and presentation.
We were childless and i would say that this is very much a family hotel. And its a place for people who just want to lie by the pool and drink and eat, but thats what is to be expected.
This is a fab hotel for families. Its safe with plenty for children off all ages.
And even though its all inclusive you don't have to stay around all day.
My husband and i made rolls and took fruit from the dining area and escaped all day and returned for evening meals.
I am sure that there were people who did not move from the pool and the bars, get out and see the area.Playa Blanca and surrounding area is beautiful.
