We have stayed here several times before with the last being 5 years ago. The hotel benefits from ongoing improvements such as the fusion restaurant, adult only pool with hot tub, the outdoor eating area in the main restaurant and chill out terrace for an evening drink. we opted for Royal Elite service and really enjoyed the lounges with branded drinks and the separate restaurant especially for breakfast. our room in block C was a great improvement on the dark dated rooms when we last visited.
the pool areas are lovely and we were always able to find sunbeds and an umbrella near the pool around 9.30am. we were however concerned at all the black algae/mold from the side of the pool floating around, also some broken tiles.
The food is generally good and hot, however some days were better than others.
The reception staff apart from Marissa can be a bit snappy but this maybe a language issue.
Hotel areas and rooms very clean.
the Wi Fi coverage and speed is appalling for a 4 star hotel and this needs to be addressed, most people have family back home that they want to keep in contact with.
we had a problem with the door lock one day and it took several hours to repair however Pila the assistant manager as supportive and offered her a treatment at the spa.
we will return again but only using Royal Elite service for the lounges, upgraded rooms and restaurant.

Room tip: block C has fabulous sea views

The hotel is a good hotel, the staff are very friendly. We went for the Royal elite room, which was a good choice and the room and service does make this hotel, a four star hotel. The Royal elite room have just been updated and they are nice, but I hear the standard rooms need some tlc.

The public areas need some updating the Royal elite lounges both adult only and family, felt like an airport lounge.

The food was good, enjoyed eating in the Royal elite restaurant more than the main restaurant or the fusion restaurant.

There plenty of rules, signs about rules, but the staff never enforced them. We soon discovered, rules were there to be broken by the majority of the hotel.

We just came back from a week in Lanzarote and we stayed in a Royal Elite Sea View room as a couple without kids. The hotel is quite nice, but for the extra money we paid for Royal Elite, we would have expected a bit more (otherwise I would have given it 4 stars).
To make it a little easier to read here are some bullet points.
Positive
• Lovely clean, modern room with comfy beds, nice balcony and great toiletries
• Cold bubbly and candles on arrival – very nice touch
• Daily turn-down service
• Royale elite restaurant was lovely (the other restaurants were pretty much standard for all-inclusive)
• Treatments in the spa were nice
• Staff is friendly
• Late- check out available (30 Euros until 5 pm)

Not so nice
• Nobody enforces rules
o Adults only pool – no chance for a sun lounger after 8 am – if you are the only one who obeys the “no reservation with towels” rule you will never be able to get a sun bed
o Adults only lounge – nobody asked kids to leave (self-service bar with hard liquors)
o Dress codes in restaurants are unnecessary (majority of the guests ignored it anyway)

• SPA – not very relaxing when kids use it as a splash pool – jumping in and screaming (even after 3 pm, although the rules state no children at that time)
• Not enough car parking spaces

Suggestions

• You have four pools - make the two smaller one’s adults only and Royal Elite adults only
• Make the Spa a place for tranquillity
• Fill the minibar in the Royal Elite rooms with soft drinks daily (other hotels in the same category offer that service)
• Have a small menu for room service – would be nice to have a private meal on the nice balcony (other hotels in the same category offer that service)
• Offer help with luggage from reception

We have just returned from a 5 night stay and can honestly say I had a wonderful week. We booked a standard double (not royal elite) but was kindly upgraded to a superior sea view on arrival as hotel was very busy, this was a really nice added touch and when we go back, I will definitely be booking the superior room as they have been refurbished.
PROS:
* Big hotel with lots going on. The entertainment team, reception, cleaners and bar staff all work very hard and we didn't come across one rude person here! Each member of staff we spoke to genuinely wanted to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
*Plenty of food & drink options. The main restaurant including the Italian restaurant served beautiful food, of which the fresh bolognese in the Italian is the best I've ever tasted! The outdoor terrace area to sit and eat is lovely and plenty of shade too. The food was always a very good standard here and there is something for everybody. The Fusion restaurant, which you need to book early, was also lovely. We were lucky enough to sample both asian and mexican. The self service drinks around the hotel was great as you could help yourself. This was available to anybody and not just royal elite.
* Chill out terrace in the evening was spectacular watching the sunset. There was entertainment here too if you didn't want to watch the shows in the theater. The entertainment here varied from a violinist, white party with fireworks and saxophone player, all very good. The bar shuts at 11pm, but the snack bar (which is right next door!) serves beer, wine, soft drinks and hot drinks and of course food, until 8:15am!!) so it really is 24h all inclusive
*location is lovely right on a sandy beach, but the hotel provided free shuttle bus (which was a 50 seater coach so plenty of spaces) to take you to playa blanca. You can also walk from hotel to marina in around 20 mins which is a nice walk
*Fresh towels for the pool available every day!
CONS
*Air conditioning in room was poor. It was never cold enough! On our last day we came back from the pool to a huge flood outside next doors room which had flooded the whole corridor, caused by the air conditioning. Luckily our room wasn't flooded, but after this the air con worked perfectly.....obviously needed flushing out!!
*Soft drinks and beer would have been a nice touch in the mini fridge
*Desserts in the restaurants were poor standard
*Even though there are signs displayed saying you cannot reserve sunbeds, you still found yourself having a 7:45am trip to reserve a bed by the adults only pool! Beware: if you want an umbrella, put something on it to reserve as we didn't on our first day, and someone took it!
*I felt ripped off by paying 3euro a day for a safe which works without the key they give you, so DO NOT PAY FOR A SAFE!!
*The metal fencing around the perimeter of the hotel backing on to the beach looks terrible! The hotel next door has a lovely glass and concrete wall which looks far superior. For guests who would have paid for a sea view and been given a low floor overlooking a metal construction fence, I would not be happy.

Overall, even though there are some cons, I appreciate I am not staying in a 5* luxury hotel and for the reason I have rated my stay as excellent. We paid £450pp including flights to stay here which is a bargain and the hotel exceeded my expectation. Thank you and I will be returning!

We had a good time here so I won't be too harsh on the bad bits. I travel a lot and stay at many 'proper' 4* hotels; this is a good 'holiday hotel' but the quality is inconsistent. 3 Star, gusting 4 if you are a Royal Elite guest. Best bits: very family friendly, animation team are really excellent and full of energy and enthusiasm (best we've come across in 8 years of minidiscos and pool games etc) most staff are very friendly and helpful, food is good and varied (less for lunchtime which is average at best), a comprehensive all inclusive package, next to the beach, great time at the Rubicon dive school if that's your thing, lots of entertainment options (Sunday night's 'white party' was excellent), but some activities and entertainment smacks of Butlins (adult shooting competitions by the Theatre, crazy golf etc....). Like all these reviews, they are subjective based on previous experiences. Less impressive bits: main pool is full of algie, decor is dated although some rooms have recently been tastefully upgraded. We had a Royal Elite suite for 5 (good) and our air con failed to work for 2 nights (poor). Hotel Manager was very understanding and they paid for our kids to have a try dive so no complaints about the good customer service, however, 4* hotels should fix the air con more rapidly! Royal Elite is a must and worth the extra for a better dining experience and nicer rooms. The Royal Elite lounge is good but lacks charm (feels like a mid range airport business lounge with chairs in rows but is much better than the dreadful Canarian Bar - all ranks NAAFI, complete with fruit machines, for those who know what I mean - perhaps some will love that). Overall we had a fun holiday and may well come back as the kids had a great time (critical) and the beach is great (good snorkelling and lots of marine life) but Sandos would do well to give the hotel a full and complete make over and improve the main pool area and some of the children's evening entertainment (visiting reptile and parrot shows aimed at extracting as much money from guests through after show photos are not our thing). End on a high, you'll have a good time here but don't expect too much.
