Stayed at this hotel for two weeks from 19 January. The hotel has many good points and a few bad. My only serious gripe about the Papagayo Arena is the beds, which we thought were hard and lumpy. Some people we spoke to thought the beds were ok but I felt as though I was lying on a bag of assorted springs. Beds apart, we liked the rooms, which are large, and equipped with essentials such as a hairdryer and a fridge. The balconies are a good size with reasonable wicker furniture and we had a beautiful sea view from our room in Block C.
The hotel is very clean and we had no problems with any of the staff. The reception staff are too busy to be overly friendly but we found them approachable and efficient, and the restaurant staff go about their business in an unobtrusive manner. The food is generally good, although we were disappointed by the oriental restaurant. The pizza/pasta we enjoyed. I agree with the earlier reviewer who suggested a late dinner if you want a more relaxing experience. If you like coffee I suggest you bring your own as the brew they serve in the restaurant is revolting! You can however get much better coffee from any of the bars in the hotel. The drinks available in the all inclusive are reasonable. The wine is drinkable and the beer is cold. We did not try the cocktails. The hotel has a good spa with 3 jacuzzis, a steam room and sauna. It also has a good gym and pool tables can be found at various locations across the site. Were it not for the beds I would consider this hotel to be one of the best 4* hotels I have stayed in in Europe. It does not offer the standard of service we have experienced in Mexico and elsewhere but then it does not carry a Caribbean price tag either. Overall we believe we got value for money and enjoyed a relatively inexpensive winter break only 4 hours from the UK.

We stayed here for my 40th birthday and found it disappointing, we have stayed in far better 3 star accomodation. The food was never hot and the crockery is in desperate need of replacement. The rooms are ok but our bath had peeling enamel coming from the inside. The views however are stunning and the canary bar is lovely. The walk up to the marina is pleasant, unlike many of the guests who think they are a cut above and are down right ignorant. We wouldn`t rush back as there are plenty of nicer, friendlier hotels available.

There from 19th feb to 26th feb.Read a lot of reviews, before we went, most of them were spot on.The hotel is very large, check in only took 5 minutes, got passports back and safety deposit key at the same time.We were given a map of hotel, not very informative, gave you position of all the blocks, not much else.Fortunately block H was nearest the reception.Best rooms i have ever had in Europe, large bathroom water was always warm.Didnt like the single beds, other reviews felt them to hard, wife and i had no problems with them.Five pools in hotel we always lay at the large pool, very peaceful you could not hear the noise from the heated pool, where all the kids were.Other pools were frozen, some pools you can get used to the cold, these you just got colder.

Good selection of food at meal times, breakfast good selection but could have been warmer.very good selection at lunchtime(sometimes better than dinnertime) most nights had to queue to get a table at dinner time, though never more than 5 minutes.Forget about nightime entertainment starts at ten,is very poor and free drinks stop at 23.00,you can get free beer, wine and soft drinks from snack bar all nights.
If you are just looking to chill out ideal, but other wise you will be bored to tears.place is a bit isolated, you wouldnt want to walk to a pub at night, none handy and very dark.

Retired couple aged 65 and 71. We have returned home from two weeks at the all inclusive Papagaya Arena relaxed and a bit fatter. All staff were friendly , very well trained and always spoke when passing .All areas were spotless. The food was of a very high standard and varied every day with a choice of the main restaurant or the Italian. We did not make it to the Chinese or A la Cart.Felt no need to.The chef always had three or four plain fish or meat cuts freshly cooking on the grill plates as well as other choices in sauces on the main buffet at lunch and dinner. The drinks were genuine, not diluted. We spent the evenings in the Green adults only bar with comfy chairs where Teresa, a star was in charge and knew what everyone drank.!! It was mid term and the children were having a ball in the entertainment area. This is usually semi outside but was moved to the disco.
Cannot comment on entertainment but seemed to be usual parrots, acrobats, dancers etc.
I would have loved this hotel if I was a Kid. Safe, own pool and on tap food ,drinks and ice cream.!
The bedroom ,bathroom and balcony were bigger than we expected and perfect for
a family. The housekeeping was one of the best we have experienced. We were in block C with outstanding views to Fuerteventura. The bed was firm but comfy. The public areas were huge and on four levels of the reception atrium. This is an enormous hotel with space to be in the midst of things or as quiet as you wish.Reception give you a map and you soon find your way from --2 to + 7 levels in the lifts!! We felt the heated pool was too cold for us but lots of others were a bit tougher than us and were swimming each day.
The sauna and steam room were good. We did not use the gym or the three whirlpools. .

Tips. The restaurant can feel like a canteen / feeding frenzy at certain times. Go early for lunch and late for dinner. If it looks too busy go for a drink.Much more civilized.Chef cooks right up to closing time and the food choice does not diminish,
Take the courtesy bus to Playa Blanca and walk back via the marina or walk to and from the marina.
Take children to the fab beach in playa Blanca.
Papagayo beaches. Don't attempt walking there with children or buggies, wearing sandals or if you get breathless. I felt like a mountain goat climbing up and down the gully. Only use tracks from outside reception area if you decide to go, and ask your rep for the easiest route.

Only two niggles with this otherwise excellent destination.
£42 / euros charge for safe in a 4 star hotel is a bit steep.and no cushions on loungers.
Would suggest this charge was sneaked on to holiday charge. No one would notice.
I feel guilty moaning after such a lovely holiday.Sorry.
GO ON BOOK UP NOW.
We will return soon to this great hotel

Having experienced several all inclusive holidays over the years, we were looking forward to our stay at the Papagayo Arena largely after having read previous good reviews on this website. On first impressions the hotel looks fabulous, however, aside from the beautifully kept public areas, pools etc lies a different story.
The fact that you are simply offered a map and pointed in the general direction of your room is not the best start, luckily our block was nearest to the main building. The room was a good size with lovely views over the pool and sea view, great. The bathroom however was pretty awful, mould inside the soap dispenser, dodgy shower, mould on the tiles and you had to be an acrobat to get in the bath without bruising your shins! The baby cot provided was inadequate, held together with nuts and bolts and a cigarette burn on the side, we only used it for the baby's clothes.
Mealtimes - oh what fun! We coined our own motto "use it or lose it". On more than one occcasion our plates were whipped away just as we put the last mouthful in, some days plates and food just disappeared...don't leave baby food being cooled out of your sight or that will be gone as well. In fact on one occassion we nearly lost our child to a couple who just took the whole table and chairs while my husband got the juice, child still having flashbacks! Food was varied but not appetising, some days only lukewarm, but you would always find something to eat. Plates and crockery need replacing as they are chipped and stained. Tea and coffee pots should have lids.
Forget the snack bar that's an entity on it's own.....
Drinks were obviously the cheapest they could get away with, "cocktails" were just a joke and the pool bar drinks tasted very peculiar.
Staff were indifferent bordering on the abrupt in a lot of cases.
Animation team were not exactly animated, evening entertainment was ok when it actually started (a bit too late for kids though)

Liked: Public Areas, pools, location of hotel
Disliked: Food, poor quality drinks

We stayed here during the UK February school holiday week, the hotel was fairly full and busy, it is a large hotel with approx 400 rooms. Having said that it has plenty of space and facilities to accomodate all those staying here. We were in block E, the room was large and kept in pristine condition throughout the stay. We had a lovely view from the balcony and lots of space in the room. The room has a good sized safe (we were able to fit in all papers and money and 2 cameras) which costs 3 euros per day and a refundable 20 euros deposit. The hotel could do with an update of style and furniture as this is looking dated. The beds were firm, I would prefer a king size bed to the two single+ beds that we had.
The pool areas were kept clean and there is lots of space with areas away from the pools for those wanting to escape the children!
You could eat 24 hours every day, we stuck to the main restuarant times, breakfast is 08.00 - 10.15hrs, with plenty of choice for even the most fussy of eaters! Lunch starts at 13.00 to 15.15hrs, again lots of choice and especially a great salad bar. It was good to have traditional Spanish food included. Dinner between 19.00 - 23.00hrs, gives a good choice, including the oriental restaurant (this needs to be booked 24hrs in advance). If I had been holidaying with my kids it would have not been a problem to feed or entertain them, even my very fussy eater! The wine is house wine, not particuarly palatable, okay with food! We tended to drink the local beer which was fine. There are also lots of herbal / fruit teas as well as different choices for coffee and plenty of soft drinks. The spirits are unbranded, but are fine, the branded versions have a charge.
We hired a car in Playa Blanca, plenty of places to hire so competition keeps the prices very reasonable, it is worth haggling to get a good deal. The hotel has some on site parking, but also has plenty of street parking very nearby. It is worth getting out and about to explore the island, the market in Teguise on Sunday morning is worth getting up and out to fairly early, unlike many markets it has lots of excellent craft stalls and plenty of local characters to entertain. Many of the same stall holders also come to the market in Playa Blanca every Wednesday and Saturday held at the Rubicon Marina.
The hotel has a courtesy bus which takes you most of the way into Playa Blanca, this runs x4 per day. However if you do decide to walk there is a promenade from the hotel all the way into Playa Blanca. We timed this and we strolled along here, it is gently undulating and easy walking with very pleasant views across to Furteventura and towards Playa Blanca. It takes 30 minutes to the marina and another 20 minutes to the centre of Playa Blanca. Please note we were strolling not on a route march, so you could do this more quickly!
Playa Blanca has some nice shops to wander round, but is not a shoppers paradise! there are also plenty of cafes and restaurants - not that we used any as we were of course all inclusive!
If you are planning to visit here it is a lovely hotel with good food. I would however recommend avoiding UK school holidays! The only children that were badly behaved were unfortuately English, which is as a parent of school aged English children was an embarrassment. My children were away with their school skiing and we had taken advantage of them being away to escape to the sun. The Spanish and other European children in the hotel were delightful!
