5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

We were diverted to gran Canaria due to severe storms on 3rd march, which meant we had to abort our scheduled landing. Afetr a night in a good quality but soul-less hotel in las Palmas we flew on to Lanzarote one day late.
I cant add any more to the praise given by other trip advisor writers.
Impressive entry through a "church" into a "volcano cave". Fabulous warm welcome by reception. Room huge and immaculate - bed very huge and comfortable. View over the gardens, pools and Marina - what more could we ask? (Room 415)
Food hot, freshly cooked and plentiful. Staff in dining area very helpful. Good range of evening activities.
Daytime activities included lessons in Canarian cooking, candle making, photgraphy, soap making etc. If you want half an hour out of the sun, go to some of these.
Lots of walkways and staircases. So many permutations for access to the various areas of the Hotel.
Recommend walks in either direction from the hotel. I got a taxi to Montana Rubicon volcano. Enough of a gradient to give you a sense of achievement, but easy if you pace yourself. Inside the caldera people leave their names in rocks - visit it to find out and maybe add your own...?
We would definitely return at some point and we don't usually say that.
Everyone we met loved their holiday - don't know why the negative responses have been made.

Room Tip: We had room 415 - Huge room with king size bed and view over the pools hotel grounds and the Marina...

On arrival we entered a very tranquil entrance with incense, candles and monks chanting. Our check in was very efficient and we were given a nice welcome drink.we were part of the club volcan which was was worth the extra. Our room was clean and roomy with some delicious mini cakes. The only fault was that the floor grouting could do with a touch up. The sheets were fresh daily and there was a sheet and pillow menu. The staff were very friendly and there was absolutely no pressure to tip. Unfortunately we had some unprecedented severe weather which caused a flood but it all added to our experience. Not the fault of the hotel. The fruit offered around the pool was a nice touch as is the fresh rose and candle and incense sticks in the room. We had breakfast in the main restaurant preferring to see the food cooked but after would go to the club lounge for orange juice as this was freshly squeezed. The water is rather expensive and I feel a certain amount should be free. Our favourite restaurant was blue moon but the prices are more reasonable in the town if you fancied the walk. This was rarely possible for us due to the weather. A cab was around 5 euro one way. This was my first visit to the canaries. If it wasn't for the hotel I would probably have been put off another visit. We were unlucky with the storms etc. another quirky aspect are the many twists and turns with a lovely table or sitting area. Evening drinks could do with some music.we saw the spa but preferred to go for a walk. Only one English CNN channel. Good wi fi. Don't understand why ppl say its not or that the food was cold. However using iPad or phones is public areas is frowned upon by other guests. That's their problem! Pool was a little chilly but on the one hot day it warmed up. The other residents pool needed touching up and it was too cold. Their sun loungers were rather tatty too.we wanted to eat in the buffet but it was rather expensive we thought at 20 euro each. We were not keen on the recommended taberna restaurant which was rather expensive and not great food. Be aware that when it is stormy most places shut. We attended the flamenco night which was ok.all in all a thumbs up!

We stayed at Volcan Hotel from 2nd - 9th March 2013. We paid to upgrade to the club volcan and didnt receive many of the alleged extras for the club rooms. On arrival after waiting 20 minutes to check in, after a long day's travelling, we were not given the refreshing towels that are advertised in their club vulcan brochure.

On our second night there was a storm. Our patio doors were broken, kept blowing wide open and we got flooded. We had to phone reception three times to get someone out to look at them. We were told by the technician that finally came, that they were broke, but the hotel did not have another room to move us to, so what happened, they rammed two metal bars across the doors to keep them shut. They didnt even bolt them to the wall, they were just jammed into the plaster in the door frame. The doors constantly rattled all night and we we got no sleep whatsoever as we were expecting the doors to blow the bars off the door and end up in bed with us. A total disregard for guest safety.

We were then told by the concierge from the travel company we booked through that the assistant manager was very sorry and we would be contacted by the hotel directly and offered a new room. This never happened. The room smelled of damp and when checking behind the curtains the wall was absolutely soaking, peeling and crumbling. We asked to move rooms on several occasions and was told that the hotel was full and there was no room.

A few of the staff could do with some customer service training.

The jacuzzis were cold, and the club volcan poolside bar although allegedly is open from 11 till 5 everyday was regularly unmanned and you had to wait around 25 minutes for someone to turn up to actually order a drink, and then on two days because it was a bit cloudy they didnt even open up the bar.

There genuinely isnt many nice things I can say about this hotel as the overall state of it and their total disregard for safety outweighs anything good. My advice, dont waste your money, go elsewhere.

We have just come back from the above hotel and all the positive reviews are true. It is a lovely hotel with good food and service. The mature gardens are really beautiful and well maintained. The Marina Rubicon is just out of the back of the hotel and a market is held there twice a week. There is a nice walk along to the centre of Playa Blanca and also a nice walk to the beaches of Papagaya.
We went with Thomas Cook and as usual their service was perfect in every way.
Great for a winter warm up!!

Room Tip: Sea view looking over the marina from a higher floor

Lanzarotte amongst the Canary Islands has its own unique charm . Unspoilt by the high rise developments like some of the other islands it has retained its traditional look even with the many new developments . Having previously stayed at Costa Teguise we chose the Playa Blanca area and the Hotel Volcan which overlooks the Marina Rubicon this time . The hotel is completely unique in its design the architect seeking to incorporate features of the island's history and attractions in its construction . The entrance through the church with the sound of monks singing plain song sets the scene before reaching the reception area with its comfortable seating and lush indoor garden . Our room was outside amongst the pretty volcanic garden and had a great view over the Marina across the bay to Playa Blanca . The room was more like a junior suite with a good sized sitting area plus a balcony . Tastefully furnished and with a spacious bathroom it was very comfortable and immaculately clean . We were on a B&B basis so only had a couple of meals in the hotel which were good but not cheap . There are many eating places close to the hotel and if you fancy a longish walk , still more at Playa Blanca itself. The hotel was quiet and although pretty full there was no sense of crowding except at breakfast time when everyone appeared for a buffet to suit all tastes . One complaint was that there was a daily charge of twelve Euros per person to use the spa and its indoor pool which was not what we expected from a five star hotel . However , after raising the matter my wife was given a concession to swim for half an hour each day which was appreciated
In summary , a very pleasant hotel in a good location for a quiet and restful break .

Room Tip: Ask about steps if you have walking difficulties - there a lot of them to get to the rooms !

We have just returned ( march) from our first visit to the Hotel Volcan Lanzarote and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for any one looking for a quiet break .
The hotel was beautiful , rooms more than spacious and with many pool areas we sometimes felt we had the place to ourselves even though the hotel was fully booked .
We went on a half board basis , but on reflection B&B would have suited us better as the breakfast was wonderful and all we needed was a snack at the poolside bar late afternoon ,, in fact we ate there most days as the food was brilliant and the service was second to none .
We have stayed in some amazing five star resorts over the years but the level of service at the Volcana beats anywhere we have been to .
Especially Sandra at the poolside bar ,,she was so helpful to everyone and such a lovely person we felt like we had made a great friend ,,she even came to say goodbye when we left.
All the staff were so helpful Raf and Maria on reception and Daniel the porter made our stay very memorable ,
If you want a super hotel with amazing service Hotel Volacan is the one to pick .

Room Tip: We had room 590.. Probably the furthest from the pool which suited us as we could sit in the evenin...

Stayed there for one week in Februaru 2013. Hotel in nice surroundings. Friendly staff, but hotel is suffering from lack of regular maintenance. Only cold water in the pools. According to hotel staff, only one pool could be heated, with a max temperature of 23 degrees at optimal condidtions. Temperature in all pools so cold it was not possible to do more than a quick swim. This is not what you expect by a 5 star hotel
