“Total relaxation!”

Travelling as a family of 3adults, a 17 yr old and an 11 yr old, we chose is hotel because of the accommodation. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff, who dealt with our check in by opening a bottle of sparkly and showing us to comfy sofas...my idea of the perfect check in!! When we got to our bungalow, we were not disappointed. Views of the sea, with a lovely private patio area and lounge furniture. The bungalow was very clean and spacious, with air con and kitchen. The pool was clean and there was never a struggle to get sun beds, no matter what time of day (no reserving of beds allowed - definitely works) people come and go to the pool through the day. We were all inclusive and not disappointed with the food at all, always choice and hot. Help yourself ice cream available all day, as well as self serve pumps for pops and beer :) the wines and spirits were good quality. The staff always busy, helpful and polite. Located in a quiet area, a taxi ride no more than 5 mins cost 7 euros to the marina. Lovely bars and restaurants, as well as shops. Local market Wed and Sat with a free bus from the hotel. Entertainment was ok, e staff worked hard to please guests but never over bearing to get you to participate. Great family holiday, would def go back. I almost didn't write a review as I'd like to keep this one secret :)

Me and my family paid a recent visit to the coral beach resort in Lanzarote, for 10 nights as part of our annual summer holiday. Upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome from the staff on site, along with a brief chat about the area and a glass of champagne! It was definitely the best reception we’ve experienced as a family. The Villa we stayed in was close to luxury- very spacious and lovely. It was rather close to the sea and I should let you know that this resort is literally just off the shore! So be prepared for the sound of the sea crashing against the rocks at night!!. The villa came with a balcony which was just what was needed at night. The temperature at night was slightly chilli as there is a constant breeze which accompanies the temperature all the time, but you get used to this after the first couple of days. The pool in the resort was satisfactory, not that big but it was ok to have dip in when the sun came out really strong. There is no rush to get sun beds as plenty are available all day long which is very convenient! During the day there is not much to do on the resort, in terms of activities there is only two tennis courts and on some days the animation team put on some games for the children in the pool..Otherwise just expect to sit by the pool all day and relax with the mix of sun and wind! I sure did.
Because there was not much to do on site, our family found ourselves visiting the shops in the city centre playa blanca, of which we were required to pay for a taxi every time. The fare is usually 6 Euros there and 6 back so be prepared to pay for travel when going out. I would recommend visiting the local aqua park , aqua lava as it is very good! However DO NOT visit Rancho texas park because it is a waste of money! The sea lion and birds of prey shows only lasted 5-10 minutes and there is hardly anything to do at the park, even the water pools are small and there are only two slides! Our day there resulted in us missing our coach back because the rep at the park confused our coach and told us we had missed it when really it was there! As a way of apology the rep at the park booked us a minibus back to the resort. We were not impressed.
In terms of food, The selection was utterly brilliant! And can not be faulted. The food ranged from chicken curry and rice one night, to a beautiful fish and wedges meal the next. There is much to choose from especially different meats! And all in the heart of a lovely restaurant with lovely staff! My mum however did find that a couple of the members of staff were a bit rude to her when she asked for baby milk for her daughter, but she shortly got over this as the service was so excellent! The breakfast selection was slightly limited as I would have liked some mushrooms and hash browns, but what was there would do me...
The evening entertainment was very good, and satisfied me. There were reptile shows, eagle shows, bingo on a Sunday night and a fantastic belly dancing show by animator stephy! There are two main animators, called Stephy and Claire and they work tirelessly to put on a good show every night- plus it’s always easy to find a seat.
The only fault I can give to the resort is the fact it is planted in the middle of nowhere! Literally, there are only 4-5 decent shops nearby and they are all supermarkets. For children I can imagine the resort being very dull in the day, and there being a requirement to go out, because I know I found myself having nothing to do on the days we stayed in. I would only advise the resort if you want a peaceful quiet holiday in a remote place away from noise, because ideally this resort would definitely not suit families with younger children for a hotel ticks that box, not a villa.

My son and girlfriend arrived at this complex this morning (18th August) to be told there was no booking for them due to a computer glitch a fortnight ago.
My son had booked in May!
The staff were unhelpful and no manager could be found. They had booked through Lowcostholidays and the Rep was also less than helpful and after a couple of hours the only alternative offered was a hotel. So the couple are now in a en-suite hotel room for a week instead of a lovely two bedroom apartment.
This hotel is still offering apartments for holidays from tomorrow !

Reviewed August 15, 2013

Hi,

As mentioned in my other reviews on TripAdvisor i will always try and give a totally honest report of any accommodation that we stay in...whether good or bad - i also know that some people will find something to complain about at the best hotel in the world - while others would have a good time in a cardboard box!

Lets start with the basics, the VIK Coral Beach Playa Blanca is a good 10-15 DRIVE from the centre of Playa Blanca...i know some people walked into the resort centre, but i would not..its just too far, and i can only imagine after the 1 hours slog to get there in the heat that you would be ready to call the paramedics, or have many many cold drinks...either way, anyone staying at the CB (as i will refer to it from now) will almost certainly have done the return journey by taxi...and probably used taxi's after as well(both there and back).

Point being this...the CB is way out on the very edges of Playa Blanca and to benefit from where you are situated you will need a car to get around, easy for me to say as i drive and am used to driving on the right-hand side of the road...for those who do not drive or do not wish to drive while in Lanzarote then be prepared for either some very long walks/taxis/buses, or simply stop in the CB and basically stay there for the duration of your trip...some visitors will be happy to do this anyway as many seemed happy to do this during our 16 night/17 day stay.

All that being said, the location of the CB means that it gets a wonderful sea breeze that keeps the daytime temperature around the complex at around 77F, whereas in town and on the beach it may be around 90F (this is July 2013, may be warmer/cooler at other times of year).

We had a particularly hot day during our stay where it reached almost 100F near the beach...and boy, was it nice to get back to the CB with the cooler wind and temperature drop!

OK, that's the location out of the way...now lets get down to the nitty gritty of the CB itself.

We booked our accommodation independently (as we always do) and booked flights separate to match..hence, we managed to get a 16 night holiday which was great for us as we didn't get away last year. There are many sites are out there to book your hotel/apartment, we used Travel-republic for the first time and all was good...obviously its a personal choice what and how you book your own vacation.

We had a car booked via AutoReisen and a separate review of them will follow..but all was good with them too.

We arrived at the CB around 1pm on our first day and was greeted by a friendly receptionist, in fact all of the staff were very nice during our stay and made a point of saying "hello/good morning/afternoon/evening" if you met them at all anywhere on the complex.

All the villas on the site are 2 bedroomed for up to 5 people...we are 2 adults and 3 children (9,9,11) so this was perfect for us.

We were given directions to our villa, which was easy enough to find in daylight...but i saw many people going back and forth with their cases looking for their villa...the numbers are on the sides of the villas...why not put them on the FRONT of the villas so people can see the number easier?? If you were arriving in the dark i reckon you would seriously struggle to find your villa!

Our particular villa was pretty much as expected, clean spacious and also had air conditioning in the lounge area and main bedroom(but not the smaller bedroom which i thought was unfair as this room was then significantly warmer then the rest of the property), the AC temperature also seemed to be in a fixed position with your only option was to switch it on or off...thing is, you have to pay a 10 euro deposit for the remote control..not much point in having one really!

We had booked a decent time in advance for the villa, and the CB knew that were a party of 5 people...i have to say that i was a little disappointed to find that we only had cutlery for 2 people..also no pans, kettle or microwave, cups etc etc...we weren't intending doing much cooking but the basics for a party of 5 would have been nice and as i said, the CB knew well in advance how many people were going to be staying in the villa.

I' am glad to say tho' that within 24 hours all these relatively minor issues had been rectified by the CB and after that all was OK in regards to the property.

One other small issue was the fact that if you did want to cook anything on the hob there was a notice warning you that you can only cook for a maximum of TEN minutes due to safety reasons?!?

The villas themselves have a small patio area to the front, with a table and 4 chairs available to use.

A nice feature would have been a couple of sun-loungers for your patio area, but i believe that these were only available to RENT from reception..surely the CB realises that some visitors may not WANT to lay around the pool area but would rather stay around their villa?

Our villa was located about 50 metres from the sea front - i say sea front as there is no beach, just a rocky coastline which is quite dramatic with the waves crashing against the rocks, the view to Fuerteventura and Lobos is stunning if the weather is clear.

I would be very wary of letting kids wander around this rocky coastline tho', i had a look one afternoon on my own and there are several places where you had shear drops of 20 feet plus down to the rocks and sea below, even adults would have to tread carefully...so beware!

We opted to dine half board in the complex almost entirely during our stay as it seemed rather good value...we paid 35 euro (about £30) per day for half board for 2 adults and 3 children, we had decided before even arriving at the CB that we would TRY the restaurant first before booking up to any long-term meal arrangements and i' am glad to say that we sufficiently pleased with what we ate (all buffet style)...plenty of choice for both breakfast and evening meals. If like us you only book half board please be aware that you DO NOT get drinks with your evening meal..only with your breakfast (tea coffee juice etc)..we were paying 2 euro each for a Coke with our dinner...this could either be paid cash at the time or you settled up at the end of your stay.

All in all i would give the restaurant 7.5/10....could have been better on certain matters, but you certainly would not go away hungry (unless extremely fussy).

Now for the bullet points of the VIK Coral Beach (in my opinion)

THE GOOD;

PLEASANT AND HELPFUL STAFF
CLEAN, QUIET WITH A NICE COOLING SEA BREEZE,
NICE POOL NOT TOO DEEP WITH A SEPARATE KIDDIES POOL
PLENTY OF SUN-LOUNGERS AT THE POOLSIDE
GOOD VALUE HALF BOARD OPTION
FOOD GOOD, NOT AMAZING BUT PERFECTLY ADEQUATE.

THE NOT SO GOOD;

A HIRE CAR IS ALMOST ESSENTIAL...AS TAXIS WILL REALLY ADD UP
ALMOST TOTALLY DARK AROUND THE COMPLEX IF ARRIVING/LEAVING DURING THE NIGHT (we left at 3am - was pitch black!)
SEEMS TO BE GEARED MORE TOWARDS ALL INCLUSIVE VISITORS RATHER THAN SELF CATERING VISITORS
THERE SHOULD BE A BETTER VALUE DRINK OPTION FOR HALF BOARD VISITORS (maybe say 3 euro each for unlimited soft drinks with your evening meal as at some other hotels that we have stayed in...we would have happily paid 15 euro per night for this option...VIK please note!)

To sum up...the VIK CB is a nice 3 star establishment in Lanzarote that seems very well run and is perfectly set up for a good family holiday (and i mean a FAMILY holiday - we saw lots of PO-FACED couples (you will know who you are if you are reading this) staring at the kids splashing around the pool as if they had no right to be there - its a FAMILY hotel NOT a COUPLES ONLY hotel)

As i said at the start of this review - some people complain simply because they enjoy complaining..we are not like that, we take a place for what it is and if it is bad we will say so...but we will always give credit where credit is due...this considered, the CB really is a decent complex for a nice quiet (ish) family holiday in our humble opinion.

This was our 3rd consecutive summer visit. Why? The people who work there are lovely; the food choice is varied and hits the mark; it's very clean and nothing is too much trouble; it's relaxed with a blend of activities and evening entertainment. Playa Blanca is near enough (6 Euros taxi) or pleasant walk if you're reasonably fit and not in a rush.

We went all-inclusive at the end of March. We're also going again in September. This was a very relaxing holiday. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good and lots of it. The villa was very spacious and clean. The only thing wrong was the beds were a bit hard. All in all we'd recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing, peaceful break.

We came with our 2 boys aged 9 and 12. We all had an excellent time and whilst I could relax round the pool with a book, my partner went for a run into Playa Blanca (3 miles fully paved along the seafront) and also ran up the local volcano. Boys spent time between the pool making friends and in the villa watching tv when they felt it was too hot.
Make sure you bring plenty of factor 50 and sun tops for the kids as I saw a lot of sunburn because the breeze makes it feel deceptively cool.
There is some sort of entertainment every night which repeats on a weekly basis so if you're there for 2 wks, it csn be a bit repetitive. However, Steffi from the animation team is a mini dynamo. She does virtually every thing and is so friendly and enthusiastic. I agree with the review which says they really need management support. The staff work so hard in the restaurant, animation and bar but there are just not enough of them.
the food was good and plenty of choice. Drinks on the all inc. are freely available in generous measures.
There is a free bus into the local town and market which we did on the Saturday. Id definitely recommend the market there.
The local shops are approx 400m away and very well stocked if youre not all inclusive and playa blanca is 5 euros in a taxi or 2 each on the bus.
All in all we all had a great time and my 12 yr old didnt want to leave!
Make sure you bring long sleeves/ jacket for the evenings because the breeze makes it cool once the sun goes in
