“Great Fresh Fish”
Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

Having been very satisfied with a visit to La Chalanita a few years ago we decided to try it again on our return to Playa Blanca this year. We were not disappointed.
Two had the beef stroganoff and were very happy with it but all tasted the fresh seabass of one of us and agreed it was excellent - baked simply in garlic but really fresh and tasty. When we returned on another night all 4 of us had the fresh seabass and it was just as good the second time round. There are other fresh fish on the menu but we didn't have time to go back again.
The crepes suzette was a very enjoyable desert. We found service to be very good with the staff game for a laugh. They were also generous with a free after dinner drink of sambucca/Bailey etc.

“Paella Paradise”
Reviewed February 12, 2013 via mobile

Tried this restaurant after reading the Paella reviews. We were delighted with the food, the service and the children's menu was varied which pleased our three kids. The bill was much lower than I expected for a restaurant with such a prominent location. The Paella is the best I have ever eaten. The views are spectacular across to Fuerteventura.

“Darn good Paella!”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

We just returned from Playa Blanca. As a Tripadvisor user i researched where to get the best paella in town. I tried both El Galeon and La Chalanita during lunchtime. I did find the differences rather large. I myself have been making original paellas for the last 20 years so i think i am qualified to share my critical findings.
In El Galeon the price was 30 % cheaper but the portion was at least proportionally smaller. In El Galeon i missed both the use of a stronger stock and the use of the "original" paella rice (Arroz Bomba), both of which were used at La Chalanita. I observed quite some other restaurants besides La Chalanita not using the proper rice in the paella.
I found the fish in the paella equally good at El Galeon and La Chalanita, but the bits of chicken in La Chalanitas paella were a bit dry. I was surprised to taste a touch of basil in El Galeons paella, but the finely balanced fresh pepper in La Chalanitas paella gave a smile on my face ( and still does)
We were charmed by the beautiful scenery there, while El Galeon looked somewhat "ordinary" with a bad view. We found the service also much better in La Chalanita.
I do think if El Galeon starts using the "right" rice and start using a stronger stock and improve on the pepper, they could easily improve their paellas from an above average paella to a great Paella. But La Chalanita is, to my opinion, the clear winner.

“Execellent food and service”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

Just returned from Playa Blanca and ate at La Chalanita twice (dinner and lunch)
Both times the food and service was excellent. The staff are professional and attentive but not over the top as in some places. This suits us.

We have had salads, steaks, bolognese and tuna. The flambe strawberry dessert is delicious as is the chocolate fondant.
Well worth a visit. They proudly display their Tripadvisor certificate.
Hilary.

“Suffering from its own success”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

We saved up our visit to La Chalanita for the last night of our holiday but we were disappointed. The restaurant was full which made everything slow and in the end not worth waiting for. One of the specialities is watching the steak being flambed at the table but we didn't see ours being cooked, probably because we were stuck in a corner of the restaurant where there was no room for the trolley. The service was OK, although verging towards the unfriendly, and being charged for the bread roll when paying such a lot for a meal is just a joke. Better elsewhere.
